  1. Skermy will most likely be a good team guy for the Jaxx or Iowa. Anyone who can keep a sense of humor in the hellhole that are the clubhouses in Nashville is a good guy to keep around. They really appreciate what comes after.
  2. Hendry: Dempster is the closer. Dusty: Hawkins is the Closer. Hendry: The kids are here to play. Dusty: Gotta earn it dude. Learn from the bench. Hendry: We signed Perez to be a utility infielder. Dusty: He saved us dude. Coming from Dusty I can believe Wood in the pen when he returns. At least till he builds up endurance to start. At which point we have to put a pitcher on waivers probably to send them down, and make a bad trade to get something for them because they will be claimed.
  3. It is a crying shame when the AA teams in the state have better parks than one of the AAA teams do. Count me in for a road trip for at least one game this year.
  4. Wow, I didn't know Craig Wilson could catch. How big is that you say? What happens on the days Henry Blanco starts? Barrett sits on the bench and goes unused. Or occasionally, instead of getting the full day off behind the plate, Dusty puts him in for the late innings to get his bat in the game. Which is fine, except it defeats the purpose of resting your primary catcher. If you have Wilson though, who can be your 3rd catcher, now things change. On days Blanco starts, you can give Barrett the time off from the tools of ignorance. BUT, you can use him confidently as a pinch-hitter off the bench. Put that bat to use. The Cub bench instantly gets better. I'm really liking the sound of this Walker for Wilson thing now. Do it. You dont want Wilson back there unless it is an emergency. Yes he was drafted as a catcher, by Toronto, and the Pirates almost got him killed trying to make him one. He has a horrible "POP" time and is poor defensively. On the bright side he is an idiot in the truest sense of the word and will run through a brick wall because that is how you play, as long as someone will pat him on the back afterwards. You grow up next to him or something? No did his laundry for two seasons in the minors. ARams too.

  6. A Ram is a reserved person who is held back because of his lack of command of the English language. He is an intelligent person who is shy around others for a lack of a better term. Couple these two factors together and you dont get an ideal marketing posterchild. Lee on the other hand is a native born english speaker and like his father an outgoing fellow from what I hear. Those two factors make for a player you run out as the face of the organisation. Remember that English is a difficult language to master. With all the local dialects and slang we often arent sure how to use it correctly. Besides playing baseball everyday you expect latin (foreign) players to learn a language that we teach for 12 years in our schools to various levels.
  7. It sounds like a baseball school for pitchers. I like the clearing house of research concept but worry that it will lead to a one size fits all pitching philosophy. Basicly a parent who thinks thier kid is the next Prior will sign them up and then badger the coach of the High School team when something isnt done exactly like it was at "x" camp run by this group. By the way they also list Dusty Baker as a member of thier Board.
  8. The manager wouldnt be traded per say. The "right" to talk for him would be arranged before his contract expired. Otherwise it is tampering which is a huge no-no.
  9. I presume JVB will take Hollys spot and we wont have to shuffle folks on the 40?
  10. Just announced on RAdio at the end of the game. Cubs recieve "a couple of prospects"
  11. We has a SS who did it 6 or 7 times in a year. He and the pitching staff also had a no look pick to second that he keyed verbally that was rather sweet.
  12. Free at last Ronny. Now go play like you should have been doing most of this year. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/press_releases/press_release.jsp?ymd=20050809&content_id=1163476&vkey=pr_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc Edited to add link

  15. This was the best post in thread. I applaud you for bringing it up. Dusty was correct in this issue. Effective managers delegate responsibility for certain things, and all around baseball, at any level, this is the pitching coach's area. Yes I have and do. If a player screws up that I have been working with in my area of responsability the Head Coach will say, "It is my responsability to make sure they know what they are supposed to do in that situation." Then my butt is chewed on because I didnt get the job done behind closed doors. This is an open public pass the buck to Rothchild make him look bad move. I appreciate how Dusty will stand up for his guys but at somepoint it involves taking those shots yourself. Not dumping them on a guy because you don't like him for whatever reason.
  16. I am in the same boat you are and feel very much the same way. Dusty cant cover bases or hit the ball for these guys. But by God he sets the tone where this is ok or it isnt. The players may know how but there isnt a need to do so. In the end to me, tonight, this is a reflection of the Manager.
  17. I recall Dusty saying a few weeks back on radio pregame that he had thought about hittig ARam behind Lee in response to Santo. Right now I would rather book Burnitz than have to pitch to ARam. Next week it might be different, but right now ARam is mashing. DougD is right when he says that it can force a manager into L/R matchup decisions. But a good manager has already thought out those situations in advance, and unless he has just one lefty in the pen available it goes back to my second statement. To be honest I dont think Dusty anticipates the game well. He reacts more so than anticipating matchups and where my biggest dissatisfaction lies.
  18. Yes it does, it affects depth perception and makes the ball appear strobe light like. It was the first time I have seen Murton take a hack at a pitch but he was probably wanting to hit a 6 run homer too. Notice: it was the first time you've seen him swing like that, as have I. But the fact it was a pressure situation is what irks me. Everyone is on their feet. He RARELY swings at a first pitch without shadows. So shadows come and the 7-2 breaking ball looks like a fastball right down the shoot? Come on. As I said he was probably wanting to hit a 6 run homer in that situation. Hence the hack instead of sticking to his game plan. If he does that again in a bases loaded situation then we can start looking at his approach during pressure situations. When the light conditions go bad and you cant read rotation, then sliders, changes, and tight curves can look like a fastball till it is to late.

  20. Dont the Cubs have Grady Little in house to step in when Dusty leaves?
  21. Goat, would you please tell me what mamoru means? Seen it a couple of times and I really dont have a clue.
  22. Cedeno does do something for me, I think he can play a little bit. No drop off over Perez and I am very happy with the job Perez has done. I see Cedeno developing, (that and prospects are both dirty words), into a better Ricky Gutterez IMO. Murton reminds me in ways, and this is so unfair to Murton, of a young Sandberg. Murton is young and hasnt really started to fill out his frame yet. He has an idea of a game plan at the plate and has outplayed Hollandsworth so far. Let him fill out somemore and learn which balls he can pull for power and which he cant and I believe we have a 25 homer LF year in and year out who can hit in the 2 hole. As far as no power argument, the same was said of Palmerio. I didn't say throw Prior money at Hill but even if he is headed to Dr. Andrews lets ride him till his arm drops off. After all isnt that we are doing to Prior, Wood, Zambrano, Williams, Mitre, etal? For me he is nibbling the strike zone a bit to much giving teh bottom end of the lineups to much credit. Pie is not a player I want to see until he gets an idea that there is something out there called a strike zone.
