We can't expect to defend a 1-0 lead for 90. We have to hold more possession, stop letting DMB get overrun, and show a lot more composure. We gave away possession so cheaply, so many times. It was frustrating to see. I want Yedlin on the right, and shift FJ over to the left.
Beasley has been absolutely terrible. The ref has been completely terrible. Ghana could conceivably be down to 9 right now after that Muntari [expletive].
Not really unexpected, but I very much hope Jones is able to cover enough ground so as to not leave Kyle exposed with attackers running at him, because he's very slow laterally.
Was Essien expected to play? I know he's been injured. Essien is old and kind of bad now. KPB has only played 3 times for Ghana since 2010; he looked less-than-impressive against South Korea in Miami. The mids they have in the rumoured lineup are all pretty good; they won't miss Essien at all.
That, and I overestimated Portugal. Even with all their guys, they weren't any good. Didn't defend, didn't pick up runners, didn't mark anyone, couldn't hold possession, offensively inept.
Yes. And USSoccer is wrong (I said it). This is the best result possible. Germany is and was always going to advance out of this group. The competition for the US is Portugal and Ghana. And one of those teams now is seriously hampered. A tie would have helped Portugal and I have no idea why anyone would want that. I was definitely underestimating Germany. Going in, I had some questions. No longer; the only reason this game isnt 9-0 is because Germany stopped trying and started pretending they were Spain around the 18. So yeah, I was wrong.
Correct; if it wasn't going to be 0-0, the next best outcome was a lopsided German win. So far, with 3 goals against and a red card, things are going well.
