  1. Look at it this way: the goal of an away team is to take 1 of the first 2. They did that. They can win without having to come back to Chicago.
  2. Although I highly doubt MLB would do it, I was thinking the same thing. No, there is precedent, and the Angels GM and President should be on the phone with the leage raising holy hell right now.
  3. There is precedent for a replay. The George Brett pine tar game was replayed after appeal.
  4. This is up there with that call in the NFL a few years back where the Jets won and knocked Seattle out of the playoffs with a phantom TD. What an awful call. I cannot think of a worse call in a game of such magnitude.
  5. Wow, that was an awful call.
  6. I don't recall anyone clamoring for him. I seem to recall an argument being made that Dawkins would be a better bench player than either Nefif or Macias (I forget which), but that would be more of a knock on Macias/Perez than praise for Dawkins.
  7. I think Kyle must have run over some people's dogs while he was a Cub. There's some serious vitriol in this thread towards #44.
  8. I think it's a conversation worth having. It's not like trading Pie for Preston Wilson or Aubrey Huff. ARod is a top 3 player. Offer Pie and see if they bite. If they don't, you've wasted minutes on a cell plan, and nothing more.
  9. Why in the world would the yankee's do this? If they shopped ARod around don't you think they could do better? Remember the yanks don't realy need payroll relief. You might include Williams or Walker, but I think NY would be interested in getting Pie to play CF.
  10. Yup. And I don't think it's that far-fetched, problem is that it hinges on the Yankees wanting to move A-Rod for some reason. Just because he had a poor, brief ALDS hardly discounts his MVP year (again). But the NY fans and ownership are mighty fickle, so who knows? Maybe there is some Jeter-ARod friction, you never know. If there is, Jeter wins that battle every time. I'd even sweeten the deal a little. Instead of Patterson, maybe I offer the Yankees Jerome Williams to go with Hill and Pie. Or maybe they'd prefer a reliever like Mike Wuertz or JVB. Whatever it takes. DKWG, Nomally you and I don't see eye to eye, but I'm liking that idea. I know we give up Pie, but we're getting a top 3 player in return. I think I could handle that, if we got 4 years of MVP type production out of ARod. His salary isn't even all that awful now that Texas has picked up a good portion of it. Yeah, I'd offer it. If the Yankees turn it down, oh well, but at least you tried.
  11. I would trade Pie, Hill and Patterson for Arod and eat all of his salary. And laugh all the way to the W.S.
  12. A .269 avg with a .320 OBP at his salary isn't worth trading for.
  13. I completely agree with you. Even during the brief times when they were healthy, they didn't play very well. Never did they look like a potentially great team, let alone one capable of winning 90 games. I thought the one week in baseball when all the horses started, July 8 - July 15, and the team won 5 games in a row, they looked like a playoff contending team. That was the only time Prior, Zambrano, and Wood all were healthy together. I think that was also the only time in which our entire rotation was healthy at the same time since 2003.
  14. Those two sentences have absolutely nothing to do with each other. Damon isn't even close to having FA bust all over him, and if your justification is a throwing arm, you really need to remember to add the sarcasm smiley. I would argue Damon is a low risk chance to bust. 31 isn't knocking down the crypt, and he is one of the most diligent people I've met in the baseball world at taking care of his body. He's never had a serious injury and the fewest number of game he has played for his career as a starter is 145 (twice back in KC). Those two sentences have to do with the comments they were in response to, which were about his OF defense, of which arm strength is a part of, and about his value as a FA. If you don't think CF is primarily a defensive position, I don't know what to tell you. This is why offense from a CF is considered a premium, since the position is important defensively. I don't think Damon's offense would be worth watching runners routinely score from second on singles up the middle. I don't think his offense would be worth blocking Pie or signing Damon at the expense of a real RF.
  15. From second?! I don't think he will be a bust, though a decline is likely. However, he is not the right fit for the Cubs whatsoever. It makes no sense for this team to tie itself to an aging centerfielder who relies on speed with the thick Wrigley grass. It just doesn't make sense. As such, I expect him in blue pinstripes by December 15. As others have pointed out, I doubt Hendry will do anything to block Pie. They aren't going to move Damon or Pie to a corner, so that tells me they won't be going near him. If we're going to sign a speed guy, it's going to be Furcal. And we need Bruce Miles to start sounding the bell for Brian Giles, posthaste!
  16. My impression of Damon as far as going and getting balls in CF is that he is pretty good. However, no substantiation is necessary with respect to his arm. Anyone arguing that Damon has even an average arm has never seen him throw. He is awful. Its not that it is inaccurate, it is that every relay from center field starts with a lob. His weak arm, and the corresponding negatives that it creates with respect to his defense, is indisputable. Did you know someone once tagged and scored from second on a fly ball to Damon? He's got FA bust written all over him.
  17. Unless they plan on not resigning Matsui or trading Sheffield, where would they put Giles?
  18. If we signed Giles, that would be a real test of Tim's new server. The place would go nuts.
  19. He was the first to 20 in the poll thread.
  20. Nixon can't hit lefties worth a lick and needs to be platooned. Again, I will not at all be surprised if Manny is traded to the Mets for some package involving either Mike Cameron or Carlos Beltran along with some prospects (with Lastings Milledge at the top of Boston's wishlist). Why would they platoon Giles with Nixon?
  21. So it looks like we're going with Giles. Shall we discuss the terms?
  22. hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhaahhahahahahahahaha Guillen ran himself out of 2 scoring opportunities. Who the heck runs with Piersalphabet? Go Halos!
  23. Whoever signs Damon is going to have an awful baseball player on their hands by 2008 at the latest. And for the record, Giles at 4 years is a better investment than Damon at 5. Aside from the fact that Damon blocks Pie, Giles is a better player in nearly every phase of the game. More power. Nearly equal speed. Better patience. Better defense relative to their position. Much better throwing arm.
  24. You gotta love Podsednik's 33% stolen base percentage in the postseason. Sooner or later that's going to cost them a game.
