He can produce well above average for LF. A sub-800 OPS is not well above average. Well above average for a corner OF is an OPS over 900, a number Nomar has not been able to come close to reaching since his salad days of 1998-2000 with Boston. Put a fork in him. I think a better way to look at it would be that Matt Murton, in about 150 AB's, proved enough to you to think he could produce an OPS in the 800's in fiull time duty in LF. If we're contenders, we shouldn't be considering moving a guy with a history of injuries to his legs to an OF position when we have a cheap, promising alternative that, unlike Dubois going into 2005, showed enough of a sample size to be trusted with the job in LF. If Nomar wants to take a heavily incentive based deal with a base salary around $4m to play SS, then we should consider keeping him. If not, then we should bid adeiu.
