  1. I didn't realize Suppan's numbers were as decent as they are. I take back most of my "ugh".
  2. I just don't think we should sign him right now. Though, that's usually my stance on re-signing players. I don't think Zambrano is going to make himself more valuable over the course of the year. If he goes 21-6 and wins the Cy Young, he will.
  3. That's going to be very expensive. I see 5/$90m as a real possibility.
  4. Ewwww.....um...Meche, I guess. Only because he's theoretically a power pitcher, and he's RH, and the best hitters in our division are RH.
  5. I cannot imagine why anyone but the head coach would get final say in roster and training decisions. What else would Klinsi want control over?
  6. Sorry if it was already posted but I thought it was interesting. In other words: I painted myself into a corner and now I'm screwed. Also known as: I cannot believe that Mark Prior broke down and I'm about to give Ted Lilly $10m per. It bears asking what Zambrano is going to ask for when the time comes.
  7. Bummer. I thought it was done...
  8. Where was Jim Hendry quoted? If that rumor is true, and Hendry is shopping him to everyone, and it's leaking, then how much leverage can he possibly have? I think you admit his point here. It's a leak. Do you really think he's revealing to reporters that he's shopping Jones anywhere for anything? If anything, shame on other GMs for leaking negotiations to reporters and/or each other, which is not allowed. The Patterson and Sosa situations were different. The rampant speculation about replacing both lead Hendry to be able to do nothing but halfass denials about his attempts to trade the players. While it is no secret that Hendry has been floating Jones as a chip for a starter, there have been no previous indications of 'dump for anything' that would lead to something like the above being written. How this gets automatically put on Hendry is incredibly presumtuous. It.Was.A.Joke. A cheap joke. I readily admit that it's a rumor, and used the appropriate qualifier (If).
  9. Where was Jim Hendry quoted? If that rumor is true, and Hendry is shopping him to everyone, and it's leaking, then how much leverage can he possibly have? Right, so we should ding Hendry for a three-clause conditional rumor? Let's add a few more clauses, as well, "if it's a full moon, and Steinbrenner has a hemroid, and Mickey Mouse assists the deal as a 'special assistant'". How do we know this isn't simply a case of Hendry talking to all teams, looking for a deal? The sense of despeartion seems to be added by the reporter, and nothing else. Easy now. It was a joke. It's not a far leap to assume it's happening, given what Hendry did with other players' trade value.
  10. Where was Jim Hendry quoted? If that rumor is true, and Hendry is shopping him to everyone, and it's leaking, then how much leverage can he possibly have?
  11. What is with Hendry and deflating his players' trade value? Remind me to try and buy his house if/when he puts it up for sale.
  12. \:D/ That's fantastic news!
  13. Darin Erstad is horrible.
  14. Haven't seen that offer. Gallagher and Guz is definitely too steep. Heck, I think I'd rather trade Rich Hill for Jennings than give up Gallagher AND Guz. Maybe one of those guys for Jennings, but not both. Jennings isn't so good as to trade 2 potentially very good pitchers for him.
  15. I still think it would have to be this week, or never. 4 games would be marginal to work in a new QB as it stands----veteran or not. 3 games? That's just too late. There won't be a game on the schedule that will even remotely resemble what will be seen in the playoffs, either. So it's a tough sell, even if Lovie wanted to make a change. Griese just has no experience with this team----no experience going through the wars, the tough teams. Well... They gave Rex 6 quarters of football to get ready for Carolina last season. He wasn't sharp against Carolina, but in his case he was coming off injury. Griese (thanks to Grossman engineered blowouts) has seen time this season. He would likely require less time to be ready.
  16. To be fair to those calling for a change, it's doubtful Lovie would announce it 10 minutes after the game ends. If they do go to Griese, it would probably be announced Wednesday.
  17. If it's a tear, he's done until next October. is this official or speculation? Answering the question "will he be back in time for the playoffs?". If it's a tear, he might be back in time for the 2007 playoffs. Even if it's really a sprain I don't see him being ready in 6 weeks.
  18. If it's a tear, he's done until next October.
  19. Isn't one of the best things about having such a good defense is that we can afford Rex the opportunity to play out of his funk?
  20. Isn't sprained knee usually just the precursor to "MRI shows a torn ACL/MCL"?
  21. Again, you are viewing this through a baseball prisim or through the eyes of a team that isn't ready to win. You cannot ask the Bears D and special teams to keep winning games for them like this. Keep? This would be the second game that it's happened. Rex has still won them more than he's lost.
  22. This game reminds me of the 1st Green Bay game last season.
  23. I'm not going to pretend Rex hasn't been godawful today, but I do think it's a very shortsiighted move to bench him.
