  1. the worst part of this performance is that we're going to get 2 solid weeks of Grossman vs Griese. I'm more upset about that than the actual performance (which is meaningless).
  2. Somehow I think it would take much more than that to get Tejeda. If the O's were smart, Fields and Danks would be a nice starting point for Tejada. It's not like they're going to win in the next 2 seasons in the AL East.
  3. Bingo. Andy and Jim said the same things 10 years ago. That turned out so well, too, didn't it?
  4. So Soriano was a bigger priority to sign then Aramis? That disconcerting.
  5. As part of a package that netted a true impact offensive player, I'd deal him. Otherwise, you'd be selling at the lowest possible point.
  6. well, he won the MVP because of HR and RBI. i don't think he had the best season in the NL that year, but MVP voters love RBI. for instance, he was only 10th in the NL in OPS that year. Oh okay, so you are discrediting that year's MVP award. Between your argument, VORP, and the irrelevant notion that Wade Boggs had a better year, there is a dearth of logic on these boards. What does that even mean? He's saying that the MVP award is a subjective award given by writers with built in biases towards triple crown stats. How is that illogical?

  8. Wait, what? How has no reporter asked Lovie about this nonsense being reported nationally? Did we all just miss something? Was I watching my imaginary television Sunday? There was an article referencing Turner's reaction to the national media's take on this issue. Do you know the link? I'd love to read it.

  10. So the self appointed guardians of baseball in the media can spend 6 weeks preaching to themselves about the sanctity of the game, and bemoaning the loss of the good old days where cheaters simply scuffed, spat on or otherwise doctored the ball, sharpened their spikes, and cheated the way the game was meant to be subverted.
  11. He didn't play another minute. Are you suggesting some member of the Bulls should have jumped on him right then during the break in the action and gotten suspended for 15+ games? I don't see any value in that. Yeah, I don't think viscerally going and decking Posey does anything except divert attention from what Posey did in the first place. There's no good to be gained by getting yourself suspended. Keep in mind the Bulls and Heat play again in Chicago on Jan 27th. I'm sure someone going through the lane might take a hard foul, and that should be enough.
  12. not all that big? Are you nuts? That picture sure didn't make him look all that big. He has a modest bicep bulge when squeezing his arm up against his side and taking the photo from an odd angle. Big deal. I know manual laborers who never go to the gym and definitely aren't on juice who look bigger. maybe it is the angle, because his shoulder looks bigger than his head. I'd like to see his bicep side by side with Ernie Banks circa 1969.... That's not exactly a fair comparison either. Athletes are much stronger now that in the 1960's.
  13. His attempt to blame Hinrich (probably the least dirty player in the league) for Wade's wrist injury was laughable. Does he see the Bulls as that big of a threat to his team in the playoffs that he needs to start this kind of crap in December? If the league doesn't suspend Posey for multiple games, there's a problem. There's now an established pattern of behavior from this guy over the pasy 9 months. 3 different players on the Bulls have taken blatent cheap shots, and 2 were injured.
  14. Isn't that the same wrist he broke 2 years ago? That's the first thing I thought of when he hit the floor. Here's hoping he's okay. And Riley can go scratch. His teams have always been cheap shot specialsts.
  15. So that would have been after the 2003 season? I would venture a guess that it would include names like Clemens, Pudge Rodriguez, Giambi, Bonds, Mike Lowell, Sosa, Prior, Gagne... I really hope no current Cubs are named, though. I'd feel very conflicted.
  16. Many of his columns contained insights to his biases and ideas about the right way to play the game. It's not like he was a beat reporter. He was a columnist giving his opinions, and those opinions are sure to influence his managing style.
  17. Yeah, I'm for someone with no baseball instincts whatsoever that just bases every decision on statistics. The ideal manager wouldn't even need to be in the dugout, really. He could just make phone calls from his mom's basement. I'm not sure what kind of point you're making, or what you're responding to, but rest assured I'm not saying any of that. I'm saying that based on what is known about Sandberg's baseball philosiphies, it seems that he's a poor fit to be a manager of a minor league team, and that he'd likely make a better instructor than manager.
  18. It hasn't taken much to be better than Manning. He's been terrible.
  19. I know he's 4th in the league in most INTs, but he's also 4th in the league in TD passes. It's not like this guy is terrible. I mean he is ranked in between Eli Manning and Jon Kitna! "Benched"? "Rallied"? The only pass I recall him "missing" was the overthrow to Moose. ESPN really seems to have it in for Rex.
  20. What are the chances Ryno takes over after Sweet Lou retires? hopefully 0%, after reading some of his columns on yahoo i don't want him anywhere near the cubs. Interesting. I hadn't read any of those. Judging purely from his playing days I figured he'd be a pretty good option. He'd make a terrible major league manager. Seriously, I'm fully expecting him to do a very, very poor job, and I'd rather have had him scout or be a hitting/fielding coach than an actual manager of a team in our system. He's way too archaic and old-school for my tastes. His Yahoo.com writings look like Joe Morgan chats.
  21. It depends on the local outlet and the individual media member. The majority of local radio hosts, beat writers and columnists pretty much use the same thought process and are trapped by the same logical fallacies that the national people use. They think and analyze by cliche, reduce to the lowest common denominator, etc. There are precious few local guys (our own Bruce Miles, Lawrence Holmes, Dan Bernstein) that don't use conventional wisdom.
  22. Good god. That's ridiculous that a national media outlet can't properly analyze something so damned simple and obvious.
  23. I'm not worried about Garcia running...seems like the Bears haven't really had much trouble with running QB's. They always seem to handle Vick pretty nicely. But yeah, I'm hoping Philly has a tough first round game. The only team that can beat the Bears in the playoffs is the Bears. The NFC East teams suck. I don't care that Philly has won 4 straight; they aren't that good. Dallas and NY (2 of the 4 Philly wins, btw) also suck. Romo is very overrated, Owens hasn't been great and that defense isn't great either. NY is NY. Pressure Manning and you win. The NFC West teams are bad as well. Only New Orleans has the offensive personnel to beat the Bears, and they aren't that consistent, either. Get them in January on the lake, and they won't be as dynamic.
  24. I wonder how much of the defense's success if Lovie's system, and how much is Rivera's.
  25. Lovie explicitly stated before the game that Griese would get into the game. And he got in there later than they originally planned. So the ESPN article is crap?
