  1. I guess the question that needs to be asked, is if a player like Beckham is worth the money LA is going to shell out to land him. He's not really an exciting player. He's never been strong on the ball, and age has deteriorated the ability he had. He's still lethal on set pieces, but is that really going to energize a fanbase? Does this move make MLS better, or just give LA a PR angle with which to sell tickets? How many people are going to go to games expecting Beckham to be the Man U Beckham and be dissapointed and turned off? I'm not sure about this move. I couldn't disagree more US. I love Becks and have always viewed him as exciting. He can come over here and absolutely DOMINATE in my opinion against the God awful talent in the MLS, plus he can teach Landycakes a few things. I think this move will help Landycakes a lot. As soon as it's confirmed over here, I'm buying a Becks LA Galaxy jersey. He's coming to a league that doesn't know how to protect it's skill players on the wing. He's not a physical player...he's obviously talented, but I feel that they paid for a name.
  2. five-year deal, reportedly worth £128m. MLS must be expecting to a do a lot better than they have so far. Good God, that's a lot of money. Here's hoping they don't go NASL on us.

  4. for the amphetamine use or the subsequent excuse? I think Bonds is a well rounded scumbag. Agreed, but testing positive for greenies has nothing to do with it. It just gives him something in common with nearly every other baseball player, ever.

  6. I should have created a terrifying option named Joe Buckgan
  7. How long before somebody writes about all the sanctimonious self important writers ripping to shreds the small-time writer who didn't vote the way they thought he should vote? Someone here or someone in the media?
  8. Perhaps if the Bears had actually played well in such conditions you'd have a point. The Bears are the more talented team, and they are the faster team. Crappy weather is a disadvantage. yeah, bad weather is going to hide Seattle's most glaring weakness and make it a much more even game. I'm hoping it's clear and calm.
  9. Why? Aside from his salary, sooner or later his annual season-ending leg injury is going to take it's toll on his on the field performance. This year's foot injury was bad luck. Breaking your achilles one year, pulling your calf the next, and tearing a foot ligimant getting rolled up in a pile, are not realted in any way. He's not any more likely to get hurt next year because he was hurt in previous years. In any event, I agree with your conern that his injuries will start taking a toll on his on the field play. Still, I'd rather have him back next year assuming he's healthy as we're unlikely to find anyone better than him in FA or the draft. I'm saying they are related, I'm saying that they keep happening, and sooner or later he's going to lose a step. Say what you want, but medically speaking, they aren't related. Did you see how he got injured this year? How can that possibly be linked to a calf pull? I mistyped and edited my post. I don't think they are related.

  12. Between Brown and Thomas Jones' salary, we should be able to retain Briggs. And I want no part of TJ or Brown next season.
  13. I consider them broadcast journalists, but it is a tough choice. After a week, whoever gets more than 5 votes will be inducted into the NSBB polls forum "Bad At Your Job" HOF. I think all of us who post at work should be inducted as well. And just what are you implying? :D
  14. He had very good numbers, but apparently needed to show a little more love. What do you mean? Just because he chased a heckling fan in the stands, destroyed a bathroom, hit a fan and a photographer with balls thrown into the stands, charged the mound numerous times, verbally destroyed NBC reporter Hannah Storm, chased egg-throwing teenagers in his car on Halloween, basically murdered Fernando Vina, and stalked his ex-girlfriend doesn't mean anything. :-D Joey Belle is awesome.
  15. His explanation is that Rex is more concerned about the where the next party is than what the next job is.
  16. The one thing that keeps North from being completely worthless is that when he's doing an interview, will not shy away from asking a difficult question. Contrast that with Mike Murphy, who brings nothing at all to the table to offset his incompetence.
  17. I personally enjoy reading Simmons, but there are more that a few people who find his incessant pop culture referencing and writing style to be annoying, so I put him on there. I think he's entertaining, but a terrible analyst of sports. He seems very hit and miss with his analysis. He's probably best at discussing the NBA.

  20. I thought about including him, because I HATED him on Monday Night Football growing up, but for some reason I didn't. There's probably 10 guys in both polls I still forgot- Phil Rogers and Dan McGrath come immediately to mind. Chet Coppock, Dan Patrick, Mike Greenberg...there are too many lousy ones to mention.
  21. It's a tough question, no doubt. Here's a sample of Cowherd:
  22. Oh, the Guardians of Baseball will be up in arms by the time Bonds is eligible. The hyperbole will fly like a yak in heat.
  23. You mean Scott Brosius didn't get in?? Inconcievable.
  24. HatGuy is a writer for MSNBC, I think, and a frequent target of Fire Joe Morgan. He's a very terrible writer stuck in 1959. For my part, I had to go with Plaschke, who is just an absolutely vindictive, petty, terrible journalist. I think he has a dartboard with Paul DePodesta's face on it at home. Although it's tough not to go with Scoop Jackson.
  25. Is he even on anymore? yes Oh. It was pretty inevitable that I'd leave someone off. Just pretend Cowherd is Rome. They're pretty much on the same level anyway. i would have voted tim mccarver no matter what. i'm just being a pain in the ass. Stop hatin'.
