  1. That's ridiculous, then. It puts atheletes in a no win situation. If he goes up there and gives vanilla answers, he gets ripped. He goes up there and gives honest answers, and they're comparing him to McNown.
  2. I'm getting really aggravated with the enviroment surrounding the Bears and Grossman. Check this out: and this: So we have Cade McNown references and crticisisms of a guy who was being honest. Seriously? Would the press have felt better if Rex gave non answers at the podium? Isn't it better that he was honest about where his head was?
  3. FJM breaking apart a Dawson argument:
  4. Now that hurts. Why do I feel like the guy in the GEICO commercial? Well, I'll be 50 in April, and the guy who asked about OPS is in his late 60s. The guy that said I was "carrying on" about on-base percentage claimed to be a Cubs fan for 60 years. Were these questions sent to you via telegraph? Derrek Lee hit 60 rods to the hogs head back in aught 5.
  5. I thought he was just out of shape.
  6. Happily, the three teams that they have a chance to play all are worse than they are. An 8-8 Giants team the Bears already pounded on the road isn't going to test them. Seattle isn't going to come here and win. Again, the Bears already demolished Seattle, and Seattle has underachieved all season defensively. Dallas could beat the Bears, but I wouldn't count on it.
  7. Isn't Eli getting booed by the fans in New York? By the way Derwood, you're coming up on quite a posting milestone there... Maybe Eli is getting booed, but I'm not hearing the NFL analysts rallying for his backup to be put in (perhaps because the backup is crap, but still...) Part of the problem there is that analysts and some fans still think the Bears defense is a dominant defense, and that Rex's inconsistency is the only thing holding them back. People forget is was the Bears defense that crapped the bed last January, and that it's the Bears defense that's been terrible over 5 of the last 6 games.
  8. I hope so, but he can't prove consistency (even if he's awesome in all of them) in 3 games. Lord knows he's had awesome 3 game stretches already this year. We won't really know the answer to that question until next year. Whatever... I'm just looking forward to this weekend to find out who we're playing next week. I disagree. If he has 3 straight great games in this postseason, nobody is going to go into next season with doubts. You're giving Bears fans too much credit. They'll panic if he has a bad preseason, regardless of what happens in the postseason.
  9. Now, now. We all know that distinction goes to Sox fans...and they only make up about 1/2 of the Bears' fan base. I dunno, you'd be hard pressed to find a more constsently deluded, reactionary and incorrect fanbase that the Bears have. They look at everything through the prism of the past. I don't even see HFA as any sort of advantage during these playoffs.
  10. It's funny, but I was thinking this morning that it might be better for the Bears to be on the road during the playoffs. If Rex starts out like he did last postseason (1 for 12), he's going to be booed mercilessly by the dumbest fanbase in the city, and whatever supposed advantage we have at home will be out the window. The worst thing to happen to Rex Grossman is Bears fans. They need to not go into panic mode if he starts slowly or throws a pick.
  11. Better to hang in there while you have the team around him to absord and withstand the growing pains. QB is the hardest position to fill. It's not like Rex hasn't been good more times than he's been bad.
  12. Was Jeff George a top 10 QB in the league during his peak?
  13. I am so glad you do not make personnel decisions for the Chicago Bears. I want to win not baby sit some headcase. In the playoffs you can't fool around and wait and see if your QB can turn it around, especially one with thin skin like Grossman. I think you're confusing growing pains with lack of talent and ability. Rex has enough talent to be a top 10 QB in the league. He's not Peyton Manning, but he's not a backup. What Bears fans need to realize is that developing a franchise QB takes time, and requires patience and an understanding that there's going to be some inconsistencies. Very few QB's step in and don't have disaster games in their first couple seasons.
  14. Iowa's rotation is pretty impressive.
  15. Well he was largely responsible for their 3 losses, although the only game he actually *lost* for them was the Pats game. Could you say that about any losing QB? He's got the ball in his hands for every offensive snap. He's going to have some responsibility for every loss. Conversely, he should get at least partial credit for all but 2 of their wins.
  16. Would you say that they were, what, 11-5 last year despite Kyle Orton? Orton didn't have 7 games with a 100+ passer rating. He only had 4 games above 80, and had 5 below 45.
  17. Would you say that they were, what, 11-5 last year despite Kyle Orton? I don't know that I would have said in spite of, but I wouldn't say they were 11-5 because of him. He was a nonfactor in my mind. The contributions to the offense by Orton were by orders of magnitude less than what Grossman contributed this season. They didn't ask Orton to win games for them. They asked him not to lose them. This season, they put the offense in Rex's hands, and it won them some games, and lost them a couple. It's too bad that there's no VORP for football.
  18. I edited that guy's mailbag submission to properly reflect the things he contained that were relevant to HOF voting. Greg Maddux doesn't like to sign autographs. He might not get Carrie Muskat's vote. Barry Rozner will vote twice for Maddux, so don't worry.
  19. It's pretty tough to say that the Bears are 13-3 despite Grossman. That's an incredibly unfair statement to make; that Rex had nothing to do with any of their wins. I hate ESPN.
  20. I edited that guy's mailbag submission to properly reflect the things he contained that were relevant to HOF voting.
  21. Oh, I didn't doubt you. My memory is just failing me today. BTW have you been watching Roma play? Are they still 7 behind Inter?
  22. I know Convey had issues getting the work permit when he first tried to go over to England. I think Dempsey has played in the prerequisite number of USMNT games that he would need for his work permit, so here's hoping for a smooth transfer. He hasn't. The rule is that a player must have appeared in 75% of his national team's games in the past year. Dempsey appeared in 9 of 13. he was on the bench for the Italy WC match, wasn't on the roster for 2 of the WC tuneups (one because he was suspended for that fight at the Revs practice), and missed the first NT appearance of last year (not sure why on that one). The fact that he doesn't have the 75% is why they have to go to the permit tribunal. Did you mix up the Czech WC game with the Italy WC game? Not that it matters, but he started and was probably the best player on the field in the Italy game. Also, the friendly with England didn't count as a cap? Stupid Clint for punching Joey Franchino, and stupider Arena for not playing him in the Czech game. :x

  24. Good news on both counts!
  25. A dominant run game with Benson will keep the Bears offense on the field, and the opponents offense off the field. Except I don't see Lovie giving Jones the back seat to Benson in the playoffs. Benson might get more carries after a nice game at GB, but I'll bet Jones gets the bulk of the action. That might depend on the weather, too, and which team they get. If the weather's lousy, they might run the ball more that usual. Then I'm hoping for lousy weather. So am I, unless Turner decides to act like he did during the Minnesota game when the wind was blowing like crazy and he was calling all sorts of passing plays.
