  1. Because if it's fake, then that game simply becomes another random game. It's like if you suddenly said that Kirk Gibson wasn't hurt when he hit that home run for the Dodgers-it still would be a big home run, but the fact that he was hurt while doing it made it much more memorable. And again, so what if it become just another random playoff game during an unprecetended comback down 3-0? Does there have to be some stupid legend attached to it to lend his performance more gravity? Or, better, why should a Chicago Cubs message board, or anyone else outside Boston or New York care about the lastest salvo in the idiotic hype war that is Boston vs New York? If he faked it, wow, big deal, he's a drama queen, and Boston still wins the game and series. If he didn't, this writer's an idiot and Boston still won the game and series. This is a big steaming pile of who gives a crap.
  2. Why are people talking about a nonevent from 2004?
  3. I sent them an e-mail with a link to the Will Carroll article and they are talking about it now. They kind of brushed it off saying that many pitchers would have the same thing. I think the Prior is a wuss thing is going to stick around Chicago, unfortunatly. Considering that's the same radio station that used Carroll as their little prophet when it came to early reports about Prior last spring, you'd think his article would carry some weight.
  4. They are idiots, and it has little to do with calling Prior a wussy. Boers is an idiot, and Bernstein should know better.
  5. They need to figure out how to make those Mission Impossible masks for all the players in the lineup not named Ramirez or Theriot, and then just have Aramis and Ryan bat every time up.
  6. The Kansas City Royals spent all of Spring Training working on scoring with hitters in running position. Totally playing the game the wrong way.
  7. I'm with you, and they do play baseball the right way. I dream of a day when we play ball like that. Is this a joke? No, I think he's being serious, and I agree. The White Sox do play the game the right way. Their hitters use baseball bats and stand in a batters box, and swing the bats when the "pitcher" delivers a "pitch" into the hitting, or "strike" zone. Occasionally, one of these "pitches" is hit into play, and the White Sox then run in order around the bases. Also, when on defense, their fielders all use gloves, instead of carrying toaster ovens around like teams who don't play the right way.
  8. Jim Riggleman took a terrible team to the playoffs in 1998, and kept an even more terrible team in contention for 3 months in 1999. He completely shut Kerry Wood down rather than risk him to win a Wild Card berth and only used him in game 3 due to management pressure. He had a pitching staff made up of garbage and more garbage, and only 2.5 position players worth anything. He's the best manager in recent Cubs history, without question.
  9. Steve Stone is an no-doubt idiot when it comes to baseball roster decisions and evaluation. Yeah, he needs to stick to broadcasting. The more he talks about "what he'd do", the more I want to stick cotton in my ears. He has no idea what he's talking about. It doesn't help that he's treated like a demigod by every Score host. I've never heard anyone counter one of his points or ideas, not even the beyond stupid Manny and Mueller for ARam deal he was pimping in 2005.

  11. If the Bulls are to win, they'll have to fight through the officials as well as the Heat. With all the whining coming from Miami and the national press, you can bet your bottom dollar the refs are going to sell out wholesale and just give Wade/Shaq every imaginable call. they didn't call the first game that way What's more likley to happen is during games 3 and 4, you'll see borderline calls go Miami's way. Poor officials are more influenced by fans than good ones are, so pay attention to the crews that work the Miami games.
  12. You've got to be kidding me. What possible justification can you give for wanting or thinking that Wade Miller not only deserves another start, but will show improvement? He's terrible. He's done. He's not the pitcher he used to be, and people need to accept that. If he starts another game, it will be another loss. This team is not good enough to have a guaranteed disaster start pitching every fifth day. It's this mentality that has contributed heavily to 99 years of losing.
  13. Ronaldinho will never play in MLS. I doubt Ronaldo would. That leaves Zidane. I would be stunned beyond belief if Zidane played in MLS, or played in MLS for anyone other than RBNY. I'd be more stunned if AEG really spent that kind of money for a superstar to play in Chicago. Eh. We're one of 4 major market teams in MLS. We are probably a better investment than RBNY, honestly, considering that team can't get it's act together and fund a stadium. Besides, RBNY has Altidore, Reyna (I still hate him) and the Argentinian they just signed. Chivas USA probably won't have a DP for awhile, and if they do it'll likely be someone who plays for the parent club. LA has Beckham and Donovan. We really don't have a star on the Fire. Blanco doesn't count; he's past his prime. If I were AEG, I'd dump resources into our market.
  14. Agreed 100%. I'd like to add that if Hill and Lilly continue to be lights out, and Guzman comes up and does well, it would make it that much easier to deal him. Only question is, to who and for what? Anaheim still has the best young player combo.

  16. The Wade Miller Experiment needs to stop and it needs to stop now before we lose any more games he starts.
  17. Good win, considering Hinrich had a nightmare game. Thabo's defense was a huge key. Noc looks like he's not fit yet, despite his good game. He seemed to be a half step slow and a little less quick to the hoop. I cannot stand Miami at all.
  18. An absolutely ridonkulous goal by Leo Messi. I think he beat half the other team during that run.
  19. That's the number that gives me hope and at the same time despair. How likely is it that Marquis continues to pitch well? Wil the warm weather affect Lilly? We need to be taking advantage of these starts and not digging yet another early season hole.
  20. What, so a GM ignored his overreactive, idiotic fanbase, an out of control, myopic media and held on to the best player in the AL and therefore is a genius?
  21. I would also add that Ben Wallace is going to have to earn his money, and Scott Skiles is going to have to get over his fear of playing Tyrus and Thabo in the playoffs. The sad thing is I don't really think Miami is all that good of a team. They have an injured Wade, an old Shaq, and a motley collection of garbage basketball players. Their reputation, defending champion status and big names are going to buy them a lot of slack. The best thing they have going for them is a coach that knows how to take a undertalented team with a couple good players, ugly up the game, and win.
  22. I don't necessarily think that, but the NBA has shown a tendency to put poorer officials in a position to have to call a pivotal game for a team on the road. Bad officials tend to be swayed by home crowds. And if you don't think the officials-whether by league mandate or not-call a different game for certain players, I don't know what to tell you. sure they do. We benefited from that for a dozen years with jordan, who comitted offensive fouls almost every time he scored and never got called. I just grow weary of the knee-jerk "the refs lost us the game" excuse every game. How the refs decide to call the Hinrich/Wade matchup is going to decide this series. I have no faith that Kirk will get many breaks his way. Heck, he's probably the most unfairly officiated player in the league from what I've seen.

  24. I have zero confidence that the officiating assignments for this series won't make it extremely difficult for the Bulls to win 4 of 7. All you need to do is look at the Duncan/Crawford situation to know how the league feels about it's most marketable stars. Wade is the most marketable of those. Hinrich is going to be in foul trouble the entire series. The refs will protect Wade and his shoulder, because the league would love a nice Wade comeback from adversity and injury to lead his team back to the Finals. The Bulls will have a very hard time getting calls on the road. The first two games are going to be huge. You have to hold serve at home, because I don't think we'll be allowed to beat Miami on the road.
