  1. this is probably true, but after seeing what the twins got for santana, i wonder if you're really going to have to back the truck up for 2 months of sabathia. Don't underestimate trade deadline hysteria. If you get a couple of stupid/reactionary front offices, you could easily end up hauling in a king's ransom. And given our situation, I would totally live with Hendry overpaying in prospects for 3 months of Sabathia.
  2. I agree. Our only hope is that other teams bow out due to price or that other teams want to use their chips on other pieces. Or that they don't want to pay for a 3 month rental, yeah. And this all assumes they are far enough out of contention to warrant a deal.
  3. If Cleveland wants to deal C.C., we can't really match what other teams would be able to offer.
  4. I kind of think the Yankees will be sellers this deadline. I could see them moving Mussina and a few other pieces. Plus, I don't see how they have the chips to deal.
  5. Are you guys actually deluduing yourselves into thinking that Verlander's anything like available?
  6. Greg Maddux would be the worst possible aquisition you could make. He's an awful, awful fit for our division, and quite frankly the only reason his numbers don't completely suck is that his home park is a canyon.
  7. That was a really good game from the US point of view. Just having Donovan on the field helped create space. Imagine he and Adu, with Jozy, Clint and Beasley? Bradley actually played the 4-3-2-1. I can't believe it. Dempsey and Bradley had good games for the first time in a while, and they got some rest ahead of Barbados. Both needed good runs out. Clint played much more active tonight, and Bradley disrupted well and actually got forward. I know the red wasn't really Pablo's fault, but his first yellow was typical stupid Mastroeni crap. EJ still absolutely sucks. If he had any skill Adu scores easily from the spot. That was a pitiful first touch after being released. His headers were that of a 12 year old girl with no legs. He no longer plays the position of "forward" as far as I'm concerned. Until he shows improvement, he is playing the position of "liability". The backs played really well. Heaven help the fact that Danny Califf actually played well. Pearce was ok, and I liked DeMerit in his brief time. Klestjian, too, I thought accounted for himself well. Gooch took that header well, but was unlucky. Adu just looked like a target for the Argentinians. He was marked very tightly. Timmy H. is a beast. Overall, a good result. Both teams had chances. Good, attacking soccer for the most part. I'd like to see that 4-3-2-1 next Sunday, except with maybe an actual forward. I still don't think we really learned anything from these three games. The only real revelation was Bradley actually changing formations, and to a lesser extent, Adu being ready to be a more signifigant contributor.
  8. Califf has played suprisingly not disasterous. Clint looks awake, which is good. EJ still sucks. The next header he puts power on will be the first. Better performance from the mids today.
  9. Replace "Drew Moor" with "Danny Califf" in the drinking game, folks.
  10. Yep. They hired a ton of sky guys for the tournament. Btw, Kenny Cooper was added to today's roster, good times. The addition of Kenny Cooper=Good. This means that Dempsey gets some rest (although I still expet him to start), and Cooper gets a good run out. Since we need a forward to develop, I'm looking forward to this. However, the US also added traffic cone Drew Moor. So let me know who else is up for the "Watch Leo Messi Toy With Drew Moor" drinking game: Every time Messi turns Moor: 1 drink Every Time Messi blows past Drew Moor: 2 drinks Every Time Messi nutmegs Drew Moor: 3 drinks Every Time Messi Scores: 1 drink Every Time Drew Moor panics and gives possesion away: 1 drink Every Time Messi sets up a goal at the espense of Moor: 1 drink Every Goal that comes as a result of the run of play on Moor's side of the field: 1 drink If you aren't dead by halftime, Drew Moor is having the game of his life. I fully expect a complete beating. 5-1 or so. Unless Agrentina get bored. What happens when Messi turns Morre, then nutmegs him, blowing right by him to score? Laughter, then death.

EDIT: I hope for my sanity's sake that we don't play the empty bucket trying to get a result at home, and just let our guys attack and see if we can actually get some useful experience out of this match. I honestly would rather lose 5-1 or 4-2 and watch us at least attempt to play attractive soccer than lose 2-0 and have 10% possesion.
  12. Not Spain is going to win the tournament.
  13. This was a complete waste of 3 games.
  14. I know. It's amazing how many people here have consistently watched these players and been able to form knowledgeable opinions, based on extensive scouting. It's not really the point. All things being equal, you'd like to draft some guys with more upside than Flaherty with #41.
  15. I would like us to draft a welder who can hit, as opposed to Tall Theriot.
  16. Well, our system is so loaded with talent we can afford to pick safe guys.
  17. YAWN. A SS who won't stick there and won't hit enough to be a corner guy.
  18. The question really shouldn't just be "How good is Cashner?". It should be "Is our system good enough to be drafting for need?"
  19. This seems like a stupid pick. Aren't you supposed to draft BPA?
  20. As opposed to being a baseball player and a contestant on Top Chef
  21. Yeah, 5 is a bit much. I don't know if 2 is enough to make it decent TV, but there's clearly a lot of unnecessary dead time and filler. I think they could just talk about the kid drafted a little bit (no need to interview), then talk about how he might fit into that team's system in comparison with other prospects. To do that they'd actually need to retain people that know more than a thumbnail sketch about the different systems. They'd probably have to hire some BA/BP types. Gammons, Olney et al don't pay much attention beyond the top 5.
  22. Over/Under on when ESPN starts comparing these players to Yankees/Red Sox players?
