  1. This is exactly what's going to happen. This too.
  2. If they move the game, it's going to be decided this weekend, and its gonna go to Guatemala, Miami, Cancun (Atalante's stadium) or Chicago. My money, fwiw, is on Chicago. Just a gut feeling.
  3. And that's why Craig Bellamy's career is what it is. He's a total douche.
  4. I have zero idea how, despite the fact that Ben Foster looks horrid, Rio missed 4 games or whatever, and without any semblance of a central midfield, United have managed to win these games. Its Sir Alex. It has to be. I do, however, enjoy the whole Michael Owen thing.
  5. i don't see the d'backs having another reasonable option at SS - i'm no expert on their system, but their backup is augie ojeda, who sucks and is old, and their highest-rated SS coming into this season (by BA) didn't hit much at low A this year. so with that information, and drew being a solid young player, i assume they'd demand castro in a deal along with one or two other good prospects. Would you really have qualms about dealing Castro as a centerpiece in a Drew deal?
  6. Slide Fukudome to RF, play Pie...oh wait. Make Jake Fox play RF in winter ball? Or, you could pull someone off the scrap heap and try and trade for Stephen Drew, bypassing the RF issue by improving SS. Slide Theriot over to 2B, Font goes back to a backup role, and we're better and not much more expensive.
  7. I would like to think that Hendry sat down with Bradley much earlier in the season to try to settle him down, but I doubt that ever happened. He waited to do anything until the team was virtually eliminated. Either way, Lou can go all knee jerk and flip out, but GM's should be pretty Zen about this kind of thing, especially since we have like 10 games left.
  8. I guess I get the decision. Regardless of how this mess started-and there's plenty of blame to go around-I get it. With any other player, I would be a lot more angry that Hendry went and torpedoed all of his leverage going into an offseason where he would always look like trading MB. However, with Bradley, is this as big of an issue as it would be with anyone else? I can only assume there's been a ton of ish behind the scenes we aren't privy to. It's telling no one in the clubhouse has defended him. Given that, would his trade value be really all that high? On the other hand, one would want their GM to make rational, weighted decisions instead of knee jerk pissed off reactions to things, and taking someone's trade value from "negligible" to "none" is still taking it down. EDIT: In conclusion, I guess I'm saying I understand why it was done, but also think it was done stupidly.
  9. Yeah that first goal was a thing of beauty. Liverpool's defense especially on set pieces is brutal right now though. Carragher was awful. Carragher has been awful for 3 years now.
  10. This is depressing news.
  11. RSL v Chicago...RSL fighting for a playoff spot, down 1-0 at the half end up tying...but the last 10 minutes were a shooting gallery. Movsisyan hit the post on a cracker and Fire keeper made two fantastic saves late.
  12. Amado Guevara just picked up a yellow for shooting Cuau and will miss the Oct match against the 'Nats. Mexico win. We need only one result in our last two now to qualify. EDIT: Three ways to clinch on Matchday 9: 1. USA win 2. Costa Rica loss 3. USA draw AND Costa Rica draw
  13. The Sallies just went up 1-0 on CR late. Good for them. Great for us. Memo Ochoa is a pretty good keeper, and not a tool.
  14. Oh please Honduras, pick up some more stupid yellows
  15. I heart CONCACAF at Azteca. Really questionable penalty that Blanco still managed to barely slot past Honduras' keeper. Once Suazo came off Honduras basically resigned themselves to parking the bus. This one is over.
  16. To be fair, it was pretty odd that FIFA approved a one-time switch to allow Clint to play sweeper for T&T tonight. Unexpected. When Landon slipped that pass back to Clark I sat forward in my chair and thought to myself, "Rico can rip it. I think this is going in." Very nice strike. Yeah, I had the same thought. It's the one thing Rico can do offensively. Shoot from distance. Clint had a shocker to be sure, but he wasn't the only guy to struggle with his touch. Harkes was overboard. Honduras/Mexico so far is entertaining as hell. Honduras' keeper is standing on his head. LOL Maradona. Argie are only 2 points "from the drop" so to speak, in 5th position. They have no defenders. It's like watching last years' Manchester City team play.
  17. Well, that was a flat ass performance, but 3 points is 3 points. Clint played poorly. Chuck D. played poorly. Jozy wasnt great. Really, only Bornstein and Howard played alright.
  18. We don't look all that good so far. Everyone's touch is off. Did Clint rape Harkes' dog? He's been pissing and moaning about him all half.
  19. Thats the greatest celebration ever.
  20. I can't call bs loud enough. That's pure, pure crap. That call never ever gets made.
  21. I suppose the hope is that Jones will allow Mikey to make more of those crashing runs that he excels at. Trouble is, Mikey's not a great passer. Jones/Bradley might be ideal for counter/bunker play, but if we need to hold possession it's not a good combination. I still believe that long term, Mikey/Benny is probably the best pairing. We wont see BB go to any formation with a CAM, and with the way our defense is, I don't really blame him. They need the cover. Assuming we don't step on the collective crank and qualify, the back line is going to be our biggest problem going into SA. I don't trust anyone back there save Gooch. Specs needs more time, but didn't look comfortable yesterday. Bornstein sucks. Boca is going to be the Agoos/Pope of 2010-unfortunately he wears the armband, so he'll have every opportunity to cost us a game. Demerit is a question mark. Castillo is an unknown. Pearce probably has the best skillset of any LB in the system, yet can't find a club because he's an insufferable tool and an inconsistent player. 'Dolo come 2010 will be 30, and he's lost a step. Marshall? Goodison? Meh. I would seriously, seriously consider converting someone. Clark or Edu, maybe. Our strike pairing is set. Our wings are set. Our spine of the team is weak as ish right now.
  22. I felt that Jozy's touch is still lacking. It's clear he's not in form yet, which is kind of frightening in a way. Chuck D and Jozy up front...I'm very happy to not have seen Ching in this one. Clint's breakaway reminded me of myself when I was like a sophomore in high school. I had one exactly like that, and I think my shot might have been identical. Not sure why he didn't take an extra touch to see if the keeper committed out or not. The one time shot in the 18 from Davies should have been better, but that first header I have a tough time ripping him for. It looked like Bradley screened him and he lost sight of it. Still, the fact he gets into those spots is why he's so indispensable. Howard makes me uneasy. Reaction saves low, he has no trouble with, but strikes from distance expose his poor positioning, which was the main reason he was loaned to Everton in the first place from United. I wish Friedel were younger. The Beckerman sub, btw, was indefensible in a 2-1 game. I have no issue with putting the hometown guy in a blowout or friendly, but not to play CDM in a tight game like that. Every touch he had, he gave it away in a dangerous spot. Idiotic sub.
  23. If this result holds in Saprissa, Wednesday's game looms even larger. Must win.
  24. Mexico up 1-0 at Saprissa. Gio Dos Santos with a fricking rip. That guy is good.
  25. The Sallies deserve some respect. They played pretty well. The Ref sucked hard, wet, fat chick ass. Jozy's 2nd should have stood, as there wasn't a foul anywhere near that play. Deuce should have had 5 by my count, but got a big one. That 50 yard run should have ended better than it did, but he was dangerous throughout. Bornstein played his way out of any consideration for starting tonight. That was a truly poor showing. 3 points is 3 points. Lets get 3 more Wednesday and be done with it.
