  1. Doesn't he have a bunch of steals? I think his athleticism is underrated, but I also think he'll never, ever be able to play anywhere other than 1B or DH.
  2. I feel like 2008 was the last season I watched nearly every game, and I have zero recollection of Lieber being on that team. Maybe I was too busy watching us beat the NL's ass all year long or something. He was a long man, then maybe got a couple starts, got hurt which extended to "hurt" came back in September and just stopped pitching shortly thereafter. I can't remember if he just left the team during September, or denied the offer to travel with the team during the playoffs (while not on the active roster) I guess it makes sense I wouldn't remember him if he was that guy in the pen. BR has him at 26 appearances with 1 start. That's not a lot; so I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Also interesting to look back on his 2001 numbers. My memory has him being completely dominant; the numbers merely show "really good"

  4. Not worried. Juergen will cap tie him once we clinch advancement to the Hex.
  5. Not me; I have a ton of respect for El Tri and some of the guys they have. It's particularly nice to see Gio have a good run in front of all the idiot Englishmen who think he sucks because his manager at Spurs was an idiot. Also, nothing would make me happier than to see the Show Pony get worked on a big stage.
  6. Hahaha. This I like. Why do I feel like if Dempsey or Donovan did this, they'd get carded for dissent or something stupid? I agree with you; if the keeper does what normally happens, which is to hold onto the ball until 7 and then drop it on the ground to waste an extra 10 seconds, that call never happens.
  7. I've seen it a couple times at the club level, never at the international level. It gets called in high school and college, but that's because most of the refs working those games are garbage.
  8. Sinclair's not wrong; Canada was completely hosed by those two calls. The first (holding the ball too long before putting it back into play) is almost never, ever, ever called at the international level. I can't even recall the last time I saw it called. To be fair, their keeper was pretty stupid about how she was handling restarts, but still, it's so rare of a call, and in that kind of a situation, it's harsh. The handball was less dubious, but you can make the case that the ball played her arm, and her arm was in a natural position, ie not extended at a right angle to her body or something. The L.O.T.G. state a handball has to be intentional, more or less, to be called a PK. Now, I've seen that one called plenty, so it's more of a ref's discretion thing. But the combination of the two makes it pretty shady. Combine this with other calls against Canada when playing the US (mostly on the men's side; there was a completely botched offsides call in a Gold Cup semi in 2007 which wiped a tying goal off the board in stoppage time), and I totally understand why she would feel aggrieved.
  9. Rematch vs. Japan to make for last summer's final's loss, they will be more than ready. Japan's midfield is going to control that game, though. The key for the US will be scoring the first goal. Even if they do, I don't buy this group's ability to hold enough possession to keep a clean sheet. Their defense has a bit too much of last ditch, gritty tackle and not enough ruthless efficiency. Their only shot is to turn it into a shootout, because no one has attackers that can match Rapinoe, Morgan and Wambach.

  11. The Jackson move I like. The Vitters one, I'm not sure about, but he's at least shown the mental toughness to rebound after initially struggling post-promotion. Maybe they want to get that out of the way. In either case, two more reasons to be very interested over the last 2 months.
  12. Watch Murray bottle it here.
  13. Valbuena has gotten 2 walks against possibly the best lefty in baseball and made a few good defensive plays. What odd timing on this rant. Consider the source
  14. At this point its hysterical
  15. Assuming we roll 7's in the annual "which team's relievers will suck and which won't" game, and assuming we're able to sign a good starter or two, I don't see how .500 is an unrealistic goal for next year. The core position players here now of Rizzo, Castro and Barney are just fine; they need to launch LaHair into the sun, and find an actual 3B to make .500 happen, but definitely realistic. Barring an unexpected breakout or two, I think 2014 is when we can begin to actually expect contention.
  16. We're going in the wrong direction. Ugh. Quantity over quality?
  17. Maybe they found his twitter about 10 days ago. And spent the next 10 days deciphering it.
  18. no [expletive] way the braves are that dumb If they are, it probably means there's something very wrong with Delgado.
  19. Something slightly better than that. Even if it's further away.
  20. I have this rock, which keeps tigers away...interested?
