Ha! No problem, the wind was gonna keep it banging all night. Sorry I had to get on the air or I would have chatted longer. If you are back at all this week come up and say hi. NB
somehow because Brenly threw out a runner stealing...and Beloit has left four in scoring position...57 pitches through 2 innings. likely done with Cabrera getting ready in the pen.
Huh, the velocity for Carpenter surprises me. According to BA, he was 92-95 and topped out at 97 last year at Boise. I wonder if Peoria's gun is slow. Good to hear his curve looks good. Did you get a read on Huseby's velocity? Thanks for the report. I want to say the gun was only reading 88-90 for Huseby but it looked like he was throwing harder than that. Whatever he was throwing QC couldnt touch, and werent getting good swings at all. Actually there wasnt anybody on QC that was overly impressive except the 2nd game starter, and he had Peoria confused, but again his gun readings were 88 or so also. Im thinking the gun was slow like you said, but not sure. I was definatley impressed with Carpenter though. The gun isnt slow. Carp is 91-93 sometimes touching 94-95. Huseby is 88-91. And their second pitcher was an anomaly tonight. We hit three bombs off him in April and he has more walks than IP on the season but had control tonight. He had 19 WP in 10 1/3 innings last season. We do struggle with curveballs and he was throwing his for strikes tonight. Tiger - 2 ejections for Vitters. And this one was COMPLETE bs. Bad bad umpiring.
The second one would have been a double but Flaherty had to make sure the LFer didnt catch it when he dove. so he stopped at second. Nate, is Harrison as impressive as his stat line shows? Can't imagine there are too many 2b opsing .900 +. Yeah he is. Always seems to be getting on base. Nice pop too. Drives the ball to the gaps
Thank you, we'll see how this changes after the strong storms this afternoon/tonight impact it. Monday is the only one that might change. Thurs: G1 - Beliveau G2 - Carpenter Fri - Archer/Cabrera Sat - Shafer Sun - Hatley Mon - Bristow...with maybe Beliveau behind him.
Stellar. He's arguably the best defensive catcher in the Cubs system (the only guy with an argument is Luis Flores). I know he's hot right now, but remember, the PCL is a hitter's league. On Opening Day here, Jody Davis gave that honor to Mark Reed. And said it wasn't close.
Hey Ping, I'll have to check on Tuesday for sure cause I haven't seen the itinerary but for the most part visiting teams hit 2 hours before the game. We probably won't hit on the field on Sunday with it being a day game.
As a pure hitter yes. Other guys on this team and in the league can hit, but you can see a difference in Josh. He needs more patience (2 walks) but that will come with age and experience. And then its just figuring things out defensively which he works on every day in early work and during BP. Watching Josh hit in BP and in games is a lot of fun. We have had a few others like that (Daric Barton for one) but not many in my six years here.
We had the 2nd most sacrifices in the MWL last season and 3rd most in 2007 so that shouldn't come as much of a surprise. Guyer started slow with us last season then hit 330 in July (.286 after AS break). I'm glad they challenged him with Double-A and I think if they keep him there you will see him have a very strong June-Sep. He is a very hard worker with a ton of talent.
I honestly don't know what the plan is for Chris right now except to get him throwing strikes and raise his confidence which is working. We have seven starters now (Archer, Shafer, Hatley, Carp, Cabrera, Bristow, Beliveau) and I would guess that if for some reason we needed a spot start that Kreier would be next in line since he has thrown over 3 innings in a relief outing already. I can tell you that Huseby looks great out of the pen and in long relief right now or even in 2 inning stints it is very confident to see him coming in and you can't say that about all of our guys.
Unfortunately MILB is not archiving games this year. I am trying to get some up on our site (Under Multimedia, click on Highlights & Interviews) as often as I can. Right now just the Miller Park game is up. If you ever want to hear any you can private message me and I'll try to find way to send them to you. I do have highlights up and I think both of Kyler's homers are there too.
Hi Falcon. Cliff pulled up a first base in that game with a strained left hamstring. He is expected to miss two weeks and will hopefully be ready to go when we return home on May 12. He had the best spring out of our outfielders and was starting to get on base regularly when he got hurt. He did some light jogging today (Saturday) at Cedar Rapids and is scheduled to swing the bat and hit off a tee on Monday I believe.
Hey Tim, Ryan has four pitches, FB, SL, CH, Curve and has been either really on, or really off. 11 K in 7 2/3 but he had one outing where he threw 12 pitches, all balls. Need to see a bit more on him to get a true report.
Looks like I fell a bit behind on the questions, sorry about that. Crazy week with Miller Park, road trips and a double header. Huseby throws strikes. I know he had a rep for being wild the last couple of years but he has been dynamite out of our pen. Very reliable in a pen that doesn't throw strikes. He is very confident and you can see that on the mound. Seems like he has been at 90 or 91 but I don;t know that for sure. The radars in most of these parks (ours included) are not all that reliable. I'll check on Archer Monday. he is very good when he throws strikes but also very inconsistent. Walks and hit batters have been a big issue for him. HOpefully he learned something from his last good outing on Tuesday.
C. Carpenter in game 1 C. Archer in game 2 (Cabrera who piggybacks with Archer will start tomorrow in BUR and then we will be back on rotation with Shafer, Hatley, etc) Cold and overcast but not raining today. 7500 5th graders here for Dare Day. I hope you can hear them screaming on the broadcast in about 45 minutes...
