  1. Felix Pie Carlos Marmol Sean Marshall Scott Moore Brian Dopirak Jose Reyes Ricky Nolasco J. Kuk-Ryu Fontenot, Lewis and Rohlicek were outrighted to Iowa and Greenberg was designated for assignment.
  2. nice of MiLB to incorporate audio and video into their report....would have been nice and professional to credit the announcers though :D
  3. Billek is fine. he isnt a K pitcher thats why his K numbers are low. very few walks as well. i think you could make a nice argument that he had a better starts with the Chiefs than any but Gallagher and Weber. I know I was always confident with Mike on the mound. With the amount of innings he had already thrown impressively at UCF I wouldn't be at all surprised if he is fast tracked in 2006...
  4. The second wave of jersey auctions at http://www.peoriachiefs.com ends at Noon CST Tuesday. SOme good prices out there for jerseys worn by the likes of Shaver, Gwaltney, Downs, Mendez, Bernard, Nolen, and Rick. The next set of jerseys will go up later this week and be available for auction for two weeks. This next set will include Billek, Phelps, Larsen, Garcia, Estrada and Flowers. any questions feel free to let me know! Thanks for supporting the Chiefs. Nathan
  5. not quite, but he did play in the same infield, and next to Ernie for his first two seasons...
  6. it is a release list. happened Friday. Aaron Smith called this week and told me about him and Walt. Both great guys. Aaron is already talking to a few teams and has had an Independent offer.
  7. i dont know that it is 100 percent in concrete yet....but its a former Cub and pretty much fits in with the last four years list: 2003: Whitey Herzog, 2004: Lou Brock, 2005: Ryne Sandberg....
  8. Nomar's home jersey is already gone...we gave it to a local company (IPMR they brought in Sandberg last season and their 2006 guest is even more popular) they will auction it off at some point for their charity... we will have the #9 Batting Practice jersey Nomar wore in mid-to-late November...
  9. I work 9-5 like the rest of our front office. I run our website, jersey auctions and press releases. I also help out with marketing/promotion planning for the next season. Come Decemeber I will start planning and creating our program, media guide, 2006 calendar and any other print material we need to produce. oh and I also take full advantage of all the vacation days I built up while working 142 (counting all-star game) days in a 155 day span!
  10. well if the past few years are any indication, about 3-5 of those guys will get hurt in 2006....and that would open the door for any number of guys
  11. I think at least ends next year in AA if not starts there. If he ends there in 2006, then he is in position to start 2007 in AAA or at least be there by the break and then get a Sep call-up. so yeah I do think he makes his debut in 2007. Especially with all the injuries, look at how many pitchers were shuffled up and down from AA to AAA to Chicago in 2005.
  12. i think he is the real deal...and i would expect sometime in 2007 depending on who stays healthy....
  13. touche, though Hill and Mitre haven't produced much at all in Chi-town either, though I LOVE Hill's future. and of the trio that haven't produced in STL, only Johnson has a future there.
  14. We never faced Bailey this season. I would say I agree with your 2002 and 2003 assessments though Weeks is high up there in 2003. Pujols was 2000 though. And I would put Carlos Gonzales as my 2005 non-Chiefs player and Felix Hernandez as my 2004 non-Chiefs pitcher, and Dopirak as my 2004 player though if i included Barton I would pick him.
  15. You were saying that the players from my first years in peoria weren't good cause it was the Cardinals org. and i was pointing out that there ar emore players from 2002-2004 Peoria in St. Louis right now (winning a division) than there are from 2002-2004 Lansing in Chicago right now... Which players from 2002-2004 Peoria have seen MLB action for the Cards this year? Ronny Cedeno, Adam Greenberg, Rich Hill, Sergio Mitre and Ryan Theriot meet that criteria for the Cubs this year. Yadier Molina, Brad Thompson, Chris Duncan, Tyler Johnson, Carmen Cali...and if you add John Gall from 2001 who I also saw play here...and then Danny Haren is of course in Oakland from the 2002 team
  16. Peoria, IL – The Peoria Chiefs have announced that the Chicago Cubs awarded both of their Post-Season 2005 Minor League Awards to Chiefs players. Sean Gallagher was named Cubs Minor League Pitcher of the Year and second basemen Eric Patterson was named Cubs Minor League Player of the Year. Gallagher earned national recognition when he began the season with over 40 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run. He started the 2005 MWL All-Star game in Peoria and led the league in ERA until late August. When all was said and done, the 19-year old right-hander went 14-5 in 26 starts with a 2.71 ERA and 139 strikeouts in 146 innings before earning a last week promotion to Daytona. “What he accomplished at his age and the success he had was hard to match anywhere,” said Cubs Director of Player Development Oneri Fleita. “He really was a year ahead of himself and it was phenomenal. He was consistent all year and really something special to watch.” Gallagher, a 12th round pick in 2004, not only started the Chiefs first no-hitter in 12 years, but two starts later threw the first six innings in the only one-hitter in O’Brien Field history. He tied for the MWL lead in wins, was 3rd in ERA and 4th in strikeouts while also being named to the MWL Post-Season All-Star Team. “I was astonished when I got the call from Oneri,” said Gallagher. “Other players had such great years as well. It is definitely a top honor and a privilege. I wasn’t even supposed to start the year in Peoria and I used that to motivate me and work hard and be consistent. And its great that Eric won the other award he made some great plays behind me all year.” Patterson, an 8th round pick out of Georgia Tech in 2004, was the model for consistency all year in the Chiefs lineup. He batted first or second most of the season and was continuously on base in front of the power hitters. Patterson also started the All-Star Game in Peoria and picked up a single in two at-bats. The 22 year old finished the season leading the league in hitting at .333. He also added 13 homers, 71 RBI, 26 doubles, 11 triples, 90 runs scored, a .535 slugging percentage, .405 on-base percentage and 40 stolen bases. “We try to give guys a full season in one league and Eric would have stayed in Peoria without the injuries at higher levels,” Fleita said. “He had such a tremendous first full season. He won a batting title and was as consistent as a player can be. He hit to all fields, showed power, speed and great defense. We rewarded him with a move to AA for the playoffs and he more than held his own.” Patterson picked up another reward when he was selected for the prestigious Arizona Fall League which begins October 4th. In addition to winning a batting title, Patterson also finished the year in the top five in the MWL in stolen bases, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, runs scored and triples. And while some publications downplay his defense, Patterson committed just nine errors in 110 games and led the MWL in fielding percentage for second basemen. “This is a tremendous honor and there were a ton of deserving players,” said Patterson. “The big thing for me all season was just being consistent. I didn’t really have a prolonged offensive slump and I take pride in that. I work hard to be consistent in offense and defense and I also kept the errors down this year which is real big for me. I’m also happy for Sean he carried us quite a bit on the mound all season.” Both players were among the top 20 MWL prospects according to Baseball America’s rankings of the league which came out Monday. Gallagher is 15th and the youngest pitcher ranked in the MWL’s top 20. Patterson is ranked 16th, the only second baseman on the list. And OF Ryan Harvey is ranked 7th behind three other outfielders including #1 Prospect Carlos Gonzales of South Bend. 18. Sean Gallagher named Cubs Minor League PItcher of the year. Eric Patterson named Cubs Minor League Player of the year. Just wanted to give you guys the scoop. I'll post our press release soon.
  19. We do not have any decals. I asked our President and also our Merchandise Manager and there were never any ordered and apparently it isn't anything we have carried in the team store in the past. Sorry.
  20. Well, Peoria was part of the Cardinals system for the three years before this one. :D Yep and there are more guys from our teams in those three years with NL Central Champion Champagne sitll in thier hair than those who played in Lansing and are about to finish 4th  On a more serious note...we can agree to disagree on age-appropriateness, but we had more players in Peoria this season that played college ball than players who didnt and from the looks of what we expect for next year its going to be more of the same so maybe it is something you should get used to...
  21. Sure seems like everyone likes to knockdown Sean and Eric. They are two of the three best players I have seen come through Peoria in four years (Daric Barton being the other). Sean is 19 and just getting started. And I don't understand knocking Eric because he went to college. Sure he was older than other players but you can't blame or knock him for his performance here. He didnt decide where he was playing or when he was moving up. He did what he was supposed to do and played hard and get hits. I can't knock either one for any of their performances in 2005. I also don't think Sean has a stamina issue. He lost focus on his mechanics for a few starts and when he and Tom Pratt got those ironed out he was fine in his last few outings here and in Daytona. Also the pressure doesn't get to either of these guys. Patience is the key here. I've seen numerous 3 year college guys spend most or all of a season in peoria or the MWL and get to the pros with success (Danny Haren for one). Oh and don't forget that Matt Murton was a college guy who played a short season in NYPenn league, then a full season in A ball before this year...and i think that turned out ok. I guess my point is that I peronally think saying "age-appropriate" league as a reason for putting someone down is 100 percent garbage.
  22. I'd love to see EPatt duplicate his numbers in an age appropriate league. Until he does so, I can't see how you can rank him over players like Carlos Gonzales, a 19-year-old who hit .307/.371/.489. Then again it was Mr. Gonzales' 2nd go-around in the MWL so you would hope he would improve/learn something. Patterson should have been a bit higher. He was penalized for playing college ball which is pure crap. The MWL is a big step above the ACC (or any college ball for that matter).
  23. i dont have a lot of problems with the top 20 list. I didnt like Plouffe at all as a SS or hitter and Rafael Rodriguez has been a "prospect" in this league for 3 years and i have never been impressed he has always been hit hard in games ive seen. as for the analysis of the 3 Chiefs i think Gallagher's curve is better, not sloppy, i dont think they gave harvey;s defense enough credit and they definitely are wrong on eric's defense. he turned a better DP than any 2nd baseman i saw all season and any Chiefs 2b i have seen in 3 years. i thought Ryan would be top 5-7 and Sean maybe 10. Eric 11-14 so in all its about as i expected. if you have any specific questions on any of these players, please put them in the Q & A for me and I'll get to them. I saw every player on this list at least once this season....
  24. i dont know if we have any. ill ask on Monday and let you know. send me an email at nathanb@chiefsnet.com letting me know exactly what you need. how many and what size.
  25. Some home jerseys and Bp's went up this afternoon. We are starting with a few that will go until October 1st and then add more later. Patterson's was auctioned already for Hurricane Katrina at the last weekend home game, Nomar's as well. Harvey and Gallagher's will be held, all others that didn't end up missing will go up for auction. We will have Patterson, Harvey and Gallagher's BP jerseys up for auction though not in this first wave. Nomar and Wood's BP jerseys will go up closer to Christmas. Any questions let me know either here or via email. nathan
