  1. I wonder if Earl Bennett or Joe Anderson get more snaps today.
  2. Ill take a 25-30 cumulative WAR player at the age of 30...
  3. Passes to Jeffery and Bennett, what will the media do now...
  4. In Chicago, on now on FOX. I'm guessing NFLN is trying to get back-to-back games in.
  5. Looking at baseball reference today, I discovered that Vogelbach got exactly 500 plate appearances at KC. Makes BB and K% pretty easy to calculate on the fly.
  6. If they keep this up, its gonna be another loss. What's the record for the fewest wins in a year?
  7. The Cubs can't buy a hit. What's the record for the least amount of hits in a game?
  8. Because they have large contracts. So does Evan Longoria. Paying money to good players isn't something to regret. On an individual basis that's true, but within the context of a team with many long-term deals, it can be risky and a detriment. If there isn't much potential for surplus value, than you need the highly paid players to produce each year, or possibly have an incredible prospect pipeline already established, in order to stay competitive.
  9. Because they have large contracts.
  10. To me, Valbuena and Barney would be really good IF bench guys once two of Olt, Alcantara or Baez are ready to play the infield. Valbuena is good enough to be a starter at either 2B or 3B while the prospects develop, so I'm all for moving him over to 2B next year. However, once Barney and Valbuena get moved to the bench, are they sufficiently more valuable than other options such as Watkins or Vitters to justify paying their arb salaries?
  11. Peralta just shut out the Reds. Time to get back in this race.
  12. I wonder how much of these trades is about evening out the waves of talent within the organization. Looking ahead to this offseason, the upper minors/majors were expected to be weak in SP depth and the bullpen, and Torreyes was in the middle of a huge group of MI prospects at similar levels with Barney and Castro being affordable for a few years.
  13. I had Villanueva at the 4 in my mind in this scenario, but ideally Hendricks/Cabrera/Villanueva make up the 5/6/7. That would mean either a solid or elite SP comes into the rotation or one of Garza or Feldman are retained. Proceeding without an additional starting pitcher isn't only a gamble in terms of talent, but also in terms of injury avoidance. Combined, those risks are too great to bear for a hopeful contender that hypothetically revamped the bullpen and added an elite bat. It's one thing to rely on surprise seasons, but you have to leave yourself an out in the starting rotation, and this FO has shown they can affordably add SP talent.
  14. Do you have enough confidence in the rest of the upper minors starting pitching to not sign any additional arms? I'd feel decent about Cabrera/Hendricks being somewhere between 6 and 8 in rotation depth chart, but who is behind them if they are 5/6? There's Rusin, Raley, a recovering Vizcaino, Jokisch, etc. One or more of those guys is likely to get more than a handful of starts, so Id still want to add talent via FA assuming there's nothing acquired this deadline.
  15. How's that again ? I always thought the Soriano MO was to look silly a lot of the time, but then hit the ball with authority out of nowhere.
  16. FIP and xFIP are 3.68 and 3.67, respectively. The high ERA appears to be a result of a combination of high BABIP and low LOB%.
  17. Would have liked to see Villanueva in this inning in order to go 2-3 innings.
  18. He had a couple on Sunday and has been hitting more fly balls this year per Fangraphs. Hopefully they turn into HR's this summer.
  19. If Garza doesn't get some quick innings together, could we see a piggyback with Villanueva taking the game deep?
