  1. Offense or defense, I feel like he goes two steps and stops.
  2. I feel like Lake couldn't hit a softball right now.
  3. The Wizards have great penetration, ball movement and shooting today. The defense knows where the Bulls' passes are going. The only stuff that's working is a 2-man game with Gibson or offensive rebounds.
  4. Without Gibson this could be a 30 pt game.
  5. his teammates from 2004 being fed up with him in the locker room isn't a reason for the current organization to require an apology or anything else from sammy. i mean, i guess they can do what they want because it's their team, but to treat a guy who WAS cubs baseball for a decade like a criminal and demand a token of contrition, is stupid and wrong. Yeah that's what pissed me off the most. Where was Julian green in 2004? Was he even in the organization? Hired in 2011 after a stint with MillerCoors. According the press release, he was the Obama Senate campaign's press secretary during the time of the "incident". Looks like he got his start with Daley sometime prior to 2003 and moved over to Miller Coors somewhere around 2007. Its frustrating the Cubs folks are making the whole situation very impersonal and hard to pinpoint exactly who or what is keeping Sosa from being around. In the absence of any of these 'people' being identified, I have to assume this is coming from the Ricketts themselves who had nothing to do with the team at the time. Everyone else speaking is just part of a big PR game.
  6. Bonifacio .500. Last year Castillo led all qualifiers with a .347 BABIP. The Cubs as a team were dead last in BABIP in 2013 Don't you think a lot of that was because we had some really bad hitters. They were probably towards the btm in LD% too. 2nd to last in LD%. Also were in the bottom 5-10 in base-running and stolen bases leading one to believe it was a below-average team in terms of speed, as well.
  7. Bulls not having the best night tonight..
  8. Not that I am worried about this, but didn't the league take cap space away from the Cowboys and Redskins a year or so ago for moves that they made during the uncapped season. If I remember correctly, the teams were mad because not only did their moves follow the rules of the season, but were also approved by the league at the time. Wasn't there a ton of prior warning from the NFL about not front-loading contracts in the uncapped year? Yeah, there was. Some perspective of what Jay's deal can technically do: the Saints gave Bree's a 37 million dollar signing bonus a couple of years ago and pro-rated it out over the length of the deal. If we turn Jay's 22.5 first year salary completely into a signing bonus, it'd be possible to turn his 22.5 cap hit into less than a 4 mill hit, opening up over 18 million to play with. It seems like this was designed to be done this year for a huge defensive overhaul, although converting next year's salary could still free up about 13 million in cap space. Between this and a potential Marshall re-signing, I'm definitely expecting some impact defensive talent.

  10. How commonly are veteran minimum deals given out to quality players? Despite Emery's 'getting younger on defense' comments, I wouldn't mind adding veteran depth on defense to fill out the roster in lieu of all UDFA's/late draft picks. You could add 3-4 for about 1.5 million of cap space given the favorable treatment.
  11. I'd go with Wootton. He's the youngest and healthiest. I'm not ready to throw Khaseem Greene out there without seeing more, so you have to bring back one of DJ or Anderson.
  12. Dang, that's a shame. I was saw a 4 inning no-hitter cut short by a rainout at that stadium. Winter Michigan Beer fest may be in jeopardy http://www.mlive.com/entertainment/grand-rapids/index.ssf/2014/01/fifth_third_ballpark_fire_affe.html
  13. From Gregg's first save to the day of the Garza trade, the team was 39-40. 5-13 before Gregg, 22-43 after Garza. This post has me irrationally optimistic about how decent the team could be if Rizzo's results improve and Castro bounces back to at least 2010-12 form...a little Baez call up magic could make things interesting. That is, of course, assuming the rotation isn't a dumpster fire, which it very well could be depending on what happens with Samardzija and Tanaka. Didn't the team have something like a +.040 OPS differential but was 10-11 games under .500 after about 50-60 games? I'm hoping the season starts out well. I think the last OK beginning to a season was the 15-15 start in 2010.
  14. My fantasy team appreciates it. Needed Romo to at least keep within reach of his points today. This is also why I say the Saints are beatable in the playoffs. Doesn't have their home crowd, but this game is also in a dome. Don't need bad weather to beat them, though a pass rush would help. 2 bad games in three weeks, too. Not quite the right time.
  15. The chronology of the offseason is going to play a role. They can't really pull the trigger on McCown until after the draft and franchise window. If no QB is drafted, I'd expect McCown to be back. I don't think drafting an early-round QB is a given, unless the chances of a Cutler extension look to be especially bleak.
  16. Cade McNown is not a better option than Jay Cutler, no matter how many meatballs say differently. OK, like I said, I get that. Going forward, how is Jay definitely your guy though? he is a good quarterback. one does not simply let a good quarterback go without his imminent replacement in hand. mccown is not an acceptable replacement. Plus, CBS ran a story this morning that the Bears will have no exclusive window to negotiate with McCown. They can only offer him another league-minimum deal before the start of free agency. edit: here's the link http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/writer/jason-la-canfora/24375969/the-ironic-reason-why-the-bears-cant-extend-josh-mccown
  17. So, the Packers were in the same position as the Bears going into this week, but they seem pretty done for now.
  18. The lack of a promotion for Vitters last year was mostly tied to his injuries. I don't think we have enough to say that the FO doesn't view him filling in the role the WF22 laid out. I could see his 2014 looking very similarly to Lake's 2013.
  19. The results of 13 pass attempts do not discount the concept of statistical noise.
  20. Except that's only definitively true if you look at a handful of games this year. You can't just look at a handful of games and throw away the bad games and keep the good ones. How about we just look at career INT rates and fumbles and show that 'not turning the ball over as much' doesn't describe McCown? Uh it describes him this year which is what matters. Let me ask you this - do you think McCown is more likely to play like his old days or this year with Trestman as OC, this line, these weapons? We have to compare QBs in the same system with the same players, not McCown's old teams. It just isn't controversial to say that Jay turns the ball more than McCown. It also isn't controversial to say Jay is better long term. Interception rate takes a long time to stabilize. I'll take the career numbers in my decision making. http://outsidethehashes.com/?p=134

  23. Either that or he's spoken to 1 or 2 people. For all we know 'every level' could include former players.
  24. Might that do it?
