  1. that guy's look epitomizes everything why i don't ever sit in the bleachers anymore: -plain, white t-shirt? check -cub hat, slightly cocked to the side? check -thinly groomed beard? check -oversized, white sunglasses hanging from t-shirt? check -white sweat bands on the forearm? check 9.5 out of 10 on the douchebag-o-meter.
  2. Nobody can deny that when that white trash father and son attacked the Royals 1st base coach, Cubs fans didnt use it as a stereotype for Sox fans. No that never happened. We never do stuff like that here. :-" http://www.northsidebaseball.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=39105&p=1220734&hilit=ligue#p1220734
  3. No, it was completely idiotic. If they could ban that douche for life from Wrigley, I would be content. It is ironic that one idiot's actions can be followed by other morons trying to lump this as the avg. representation of Cubs fans. Yes, if you do that you are a moron just like the guy who threw the beer is. But how many times have Cubs fans pointed at the Lidge family as a representation of everyone at The Cell? Far too often.
  4. I was just emailing back to friends in Chicago. We were wondering if the bleechers at Wrigley could be made alcohol free as an over-reaction to this? Weren't the bleechers at the old Yankee Stadium dry? I also seem to remember sitting in the bleechers as a kid at the old Metropolitan Stadium in Minneapolis and those being dry.
  5. Beer accidentally spilling = somewhat common Throwing a beer at a player = not that common This is the last team that moron should have thrown at. Because when the Cubs go to Philly, our outfielders will end up with enough batteries to last them a couple of years..
  6. 700 level out of Philly. http://www.the700level.com/2009/08/shane-victorino-gets-a-beer-shower-makes-the-catch-anyway.html#more
  7. Way to step up and be a man. Its idiots like this that ruin it for us all. 8. Plus what's the over/under on how many rain delays there will be? South Florida in July? Ugh.
  9. 1. I was ranking non-coastal cities. San Francisco is world class and that's reflected by the fact that a cardboard box under a highway overpass still sells there for $450,000. 2. Austin is kick ass, but the summers are sheer hell. After a month straight of 90+ degrees and humidity you'll be changing your tune. Plus it's still in Texas (barely). I hate going to Texas and being reminded every 5 minutes about how they used to be their own country and how great the state is. And Austin has no major sports teams. But to make up for it there's tons of cute women all over the place.
  10. I agree completely. Chicago is world class. Cardinals fans get mad when I say that because of some misguided baseball=life sentimentality regarding taste in cities. Every person from St. Louis I've met feel that Chicago is a great city and love visiting there. The only things they mention as negatives I agree with 100% -rough winters -traffic -parking availability and price -the boring drive up/back across Illinois. The only true difference I find are about the teams and their ballparks.
  11. Besides all the Cardinal fans - I kinda like it here. i thought it was really boring there. It's actually not that bad. Strip away your Cardinal hatred and the city is actually pretty good when compared to other midsize non-coastal metropolitan areas. It's defenitely not Chicago: but I decided to work here for a year over some other choices (staying in Chicago and likely loosing my job vs. St. Louis vs Dallas vs. Atlanta). Plus it's a quick flight or an easy drive back home. Okay, their downtown has some issues but it's coming around. But there's lots of great neighborhoods and tons of things to do. If there's a city that's ready to really grow after this recession: it's St. Louis. My list of favorite cities 1) Chicago 2) Minneapolis/St. Paul 3) Denver 4) St. Louis 5) Austin
  12. Having the All-Star Game in Kansas City will be boring. The city is small and Kaufman is in the middle of a huge parking lot with a couple of mid-range motels/hotels along with some chain restaurants the only things nearby. They're going to have to do one hell of a shuttle system if the Power & Light District and Country Club Plaza are going to be used. Maybe they realized this and are trying to find a better city to place it at.
  13. You have a problem with Reds fans? 4000+ hits is nothing to shake a stick at and those fans are just being hometown fans. If Rose had been a Cub most of his career, we'd being do the same cheerleading that Reds fans are.
  14. Great info. Price wise Earls isn't much different than Chicago. And yes, the serving talent is top notch. Our best server was this little doe-eyed brunette from Dallas with a very tight black dress and excellent curves. It was me that talked about the altitude. I learned after my first Denver trip to go to Safeway, buy a case of water and chug like a madman. If you have to drink the first 48 hours, stay with beer and take it easy. A liquor hangover for a flatlander visiting Denver is murder.
  15. Another vote. That man was scary for so many different reasons.
  16. I agree. It just annoys me how hypocritical the HOF can be about some of this stuff. Look at the first guy they ever inducted (Cobb) and some of the things he did. Now, surely you can draw some distinct differences between what Cobb and some other HOF'ers have done and what Rose did, but you can't discount what Rose did on the field. 4,000+ hits is ridiculous. Let the man in. He deserves to get in, but I've always said two options: -the plaque and awards ceremony must mention he bet on baseball and/or -he doesn't get in until after he passes away
  17. I've got an offer for free tickets for Monday night's Dodgers/Cards game. No way I'm going to see The Greatest Fans in Baseball give Holliday a 10 minute standing ovation for his first home at bat.

  19. Denver is a great city but their downtown is lacking on the number of hotel choices for a good-sized city. I've stayed at the Marriott TownePlace Suites which is on the other side of downtown Denver on Speer Ave. Good rates, free parking and a couple of dining options close by. Coors Field is pretty nice though the bars are a few blocks away. The stadium is mostly surrounded by parking lots and major roads. Bars I've got listed in my city trip file: -Giggling Grizzly -My Brothers Bar -Gabors -Three Kings -Govn'rs Place -Scruffy Murphys -Larmier Lounge -Tryst -Earls -Paramount Lounge Eat at Jack-n-Grill and try Denver area Tex-Mex food. Get a bowl of the green chile. Late-night food: Pete's Kitchen Other 1 day each side trips (some mentioned before): -Collorado Springs with Pikes Peak, The Broadmoor and Garden of the Gods -Boulder -Rocky Mountain National Park -Idaho Falls: do a quick 3 to 4 hour white water rafting trip. Other things: -watch the one way streets. Denver has a lot of them. -give yourself a day to acclimate to the altitude. Drink tons of water and don't drink alcohol the first day there. -the homeless situation is really bad out there. They'll be stationed every block on both sides of the street. And when the bars close they'll gather right in front of the door asking for handouts.
  20. There's conjecture down here that this could be the beginning of the end for LaRussa. The front office drama seems to really be kicking up.
  21. Supposedly he writes letters and emails late at night while watching Sports Center.
  22. At least he doesn't change his allegiance or favorite teams. How many caps did Hillary throw around?
  23. Gotta give props. Huge, massive props to Stan Musial. If he would have played in New York they would have made him a god on the order of Mantle and Ruth.
  24. I didn't hear any booing of President Obama. What are you talking about?
