  2. A large portion of the upper stands is closed to fans at this point. That's because of construction. I also remember when I was a kid visiting family in Minnesota and going to a Twins game at the old Metropolitan Stadium. The entire upper deck was closed off because there were so few people at the game. I mean they had chain link fences up and everything so you couldn't go up there. Edit: I just saw the highlight with Lee's gamewinning home run. Those sections you saw in the left-field corner are still under construction and fans can't sit there. Can anyone thing of another park that was still in the process of being built or heavily redone during the season? Wasn't Edison Field in Anaheim the last place that was like that?
  3. They are a sell out. I'm in Springfield on business and thought about skipping out to catch the game. No luck as it was a sellout online. Didn't want to risk it without tickets in hand. I also tried for a bunch of weekend series and no luck there either. Still trying to decide what to do for next weekend's Cubs series. I think a lot of people are just walking around the park checking it out, making the seats not look as full. Also a coworker of mine said that if you have SRO tickets; get there early enough and they have folding chairs in some of the standing areas.
  4. Didn't he also used to do some of the ESPN and ESPN2 weeknight games (non Cardinals)
  5. For now it's AT&T Park. PacBell>>>SBC>>>AT&T
  6. No lot, but it's a lot easier to find parking, and it's like a 4 minute train ride straight to the stadium. Don't be confused though, parking still isn't guaranteed. You'll probably have to drive around the block once or twice if you're getting there late. I lived on Fullerton right by the el for five years, so I know the best places to look for spots when I go. That's why I always park there. And Vance, you're probably better off walking, or just spending the two bucks on a cab. You're really not very far at all, so I say just take the walk. Thanks. I'll be driving in from the St. Louis area. Any hints on how to get to the hotel? Vance, That's the hotel I stay at when I go up to Chicago. It's about 3/4 of a mile from Wrigley and a straight walk up Clark. About 2 blocks up there's a Walgreens you can stop at and pick up any water, sunscreen, etc you may need for the game and then as you get closer to the ballpark there are tons of restaurants and bars you can stop in to break up the walk too. It's a pretty easy trip from St. Louis. Take 70 or 270 to I-55 North and take that all the way to Chicago. Get off on South Lake Shore Drive headed north. Take the Fullerton exit, left on Fullerton, then Right on Clark. The hotel is on Diversey but the parking garage is on Clark just past the hotel on your left. Just print the directions from Mapquest for added peace of mind though. Those directions on Mapquest tell you to get on the Dan Ryan for like 5 miles. There is major road construction going on. All I have heard is stay away from 90/94 at all costs. They must have changed the route you take on Mapquest from last year then because I'm staring at printed directions from the site that have you take 55 to Lake Shore. I would agree to avoid 90/94 at all costs. googlemaps always seems to push people away from LSD and to the Dan Ryan. I just did St. Louis to Wrigley and google takes you up the D-Ryan to Damon.
  7. If I remember right you're about halfway between the Belmont and Fullerton stops. Just walk to the park: it's only about a 1 mile walk right up Clark. Or get on the brown line at Diversey and switch to the red line at Belmont. Too much work for a short trip IMHO You're not lazy enough. Also, how does the transfer of walking across the platform make it so much more work? I'm not saying it's like switching from the blue to red lines at the Washington stop: it's just the time of waiting for another train.
  8. I stayed there last year. Just walk. And be prepared to be staying in a very small room. And I mean very small. tripadvisor.com is not very kind: http://chicago-hotels.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g35805-d87571-Reviews-Days_Inn_Chicago_Lincoln_Park_North-Chicago_Illinois.html

  10. You can also do the $6 DeVry lot. Just remember the shuttle stops running 1 hour after the game: so if you're planning to party post-game: keep it short.

Avoid that since the Dan Ryan is being worked on by IDOT right now

I just prefer bringing out of towners in on Lake Shore for the views.
  13. BP's five year forecast. 2006: .298/.384/.570 2007: .288/.375/.543 2008: .292/.380/.542 2009: .280/.365/.512 2010: .282/.366/.508 I can stomach .280 to .300, but sub .280 is not cool. 1997 .259 1998 .233 1999 .206 2000 .281 2001 .282 2002 .270 2003 .271 2004 .278 2005 .335

  15. I say good thing, but I really hope he can keep the numbers up. If he has a few sub .280 seasons (like everything before 2004) then it's a bad thing. I know that's a very *duh* statement, but his career numbers just don't give me the warm fuzzy feeling. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/stats?playerId=3614
  16. A couple of years ago when Reds where in town for a night game I saw the cops towing a Honda CRV with Ohio plates and a Reds spare tire cover. It was parked by Racine and Wavland and I wonder if they picked on that vehicle because it was out of town? If I were them I would have at least taken the Reds sparetire cover off.
  17. Which hotel are you staying at? No reason you couldn't just take the red line all the way up if you're stayign somewhere along Michigan Ave. I think the Hilton Garden Inn and Embassy Suites at Grand/State are great locations for out-of-towners. There's a Jewel/Osco right there for provisions and the State Street red line stop is right there.
  18. 60 to 1? I'm going to Vegas in three weeks: might scout the sportbooks out and see if it's still in that area. If it's still 60/1 I wouldn't have a problem throwing down $20.
  19. It's a bummer Kaufman isn't on one of the coasts. Being in KC it gets almost zero press.
  20. That's always my suggestion. Parking around the Fullerton stop is not that tough, and then just a two stops up the red line to the Addison stop. The only time I drive close to Wrigley and park for a game is when I bring my mom who can't walk far or do stairs very well.
  21. I love how classy and tolerant everyone is here. Didn't this forum used to have some admins who used to keep control of things? This is starting to sound like the John Rocker fan club forum.
  22. That's so true. I get emabarassed sometimes by how geeked up some of us get when the Cards loose (or get swept). All I can say is the phrase "Act like you've been there before" applies here. For example of Saturday: who was that dude in the first row right behind home plate who jumped up and down like a squeeling little girl at a Backstreet Boys concert every time the Cubs hit a home run? He looked like a complete ninny. I'm not saying we all need to be robots, but sometimes I think anyone wearing Cubs blue needs to be issued a chill pill whenever we beat the Cards.
  23. Not cool dude. I'm not an admin but please try and keep this is a family forum. I'm just asking nicely.
  24. I think Rollins did get a hit. Can anyone else confirm? A quick run to yahoo gameday shows that Rollins got a hit. Good for him.
