  1. Plus I believe at least one of the threads has the quote from Lou saying that he will be starting at SS.
  2. A lot of that slg% is singles driven because he has a jesus christ like .485 babip. When that goes down, and it surely will, that slugging percentage will plummet unless he starts hitting the ball out of the park again. This is very simple guys, I don't know how you keep getting it wrong. Jesus's BABIP was never above 440.
  3. That's why I dropped by.
  4. I don't find it encouraging that we're losing more than we're winning, even if we explode for 29 runs in that rare win.
  5. It's tough to judge. There weren't any plays where he had to make a long or quick throw, and the only play to show off any range was charging on a soft hit ball (there wasn't really a ball where he had to move left or right). Theriot did all that he could do though yesterday-he made all the plays that were hit to him flawlessly. And the key is that those plays are few and far between. If he fails to make that really difficult play once every 3-5 games but is getting on base once more every game or two than Izturis or Cedeno, the defense is something you can definitely live with. I'm not talking about the really difficult play-I'm just talking about the play where for example the shortstop has to take 3-4 steps to the right or left, pick up the ball, set and throw. My guess is that Theriot will be better at that going towards the second base bag then going away from that, but it was rather unusual that none of those types of plays happened yesterday. If he continues to hit, his defense will certainly be something that the team can live with though-because the addition of his bat will help give the Cubs one of the best offenses in the NL. I know, I was more or less trying to add to what you were saying. He'll be fine with the routine plays that he had yesterday, and he'll be OK with moving a few steps to either side. Those will make up the vast majority of the plays and his offense will more than make up for the rare time when he can't make that "diving into the stands face first" catch or gun a guy out after one hit deep in the hole.
  6. They only paid Miller 1 million to rehab last year. And another 1.5 this year.
  7. I disagree. Dusty would have done it once but would have benched Theriot the next day because Izturis "Needs to hit his way out of his slump" Theriot started 2 games at SS last season.

  9. and he's a cubs fan
  10. OK with me except I'd switch around Soriano and Rammy.
  11. Lilly was pretty good in 2002 and 2004, and decent in 2006. It's not like he's Rusch here. Nate Robertson has some similarities, results wise. I think Doug Davis is another comparison. These guys aren't great, but if you are going to be getting multiple pitchers, they could be the robin to the offseason equivalent of batman. Throw Moyer money at them, and you could benefit. I'd like to go in another direction myself, but if you have multiple holes, this type of pitcher might be a reasonable target. This goony fella sounds like a smart baseball fan. He could go places. i heard he got banned it was justified
  12. I concur. I totally agree. I like it.
  13. OMG, THERIOT PLAYED SS TODAY AND THE WORLD DIDN'T END WHEN BALLS WERE HIT TO HIM!!!
  14. Nah, but it is quite interesting to see how many teams who make the playoffs get off to bad starts. I actually felt better as well when looking at all those teams who had losing records in April-it's not an aberration, but a regular occurrence for that to happen to at least 2-3 teams. I was really shocked. In the last two years, 6 teams under .500, one team at .500, one team one game over .500 Out of 16 playeff teams. I just hope nobody views your posts and starts thinking of this as a playoff team.
  15. Great job with the fact checking.
  16. OH SNAP, I didn't realize I had Nick Johnson. Please allow me to drop him for McCann. Soriano, D Lee, Hawpe (and of course Johnson) all with 0. I also have 3 guys with only 1 -- Kearns, Tejada, Zimmerman. MY TEAM SUCKS!!!@!!1!
  17. I think you're over-estimating Murton's trade value. There simply aren't all that many teams that can afford his lack of power at a corner OF spot, and especially if he is going to play LF. I'm not sure of too many teams who would give up a decent return for him at all. Now, the sad thing is that Murton definitely does have quite a bit of value to a team, and the way the Cubs are constructed with power at scarce spots they don't really need a huge power bat in LF. So Murton with his high OBP would have quite a bit of value to a team like the Cubs (and any team built like them) but apparently not right now with this team. Cosign. Corner outfielders that post .800 OPSes aren't exactly in short supply. If you believe he reached his ceiling in his first full year. I think he'll be much closer to 875 in the coming years.
  18. Ball State/Notre Dame? Ooh, BURN!
  19. When he hits FA, teams that can afford him will be lining up so you may have to drastically overpay if you really want him. Throwing players that may or may not become long-term valuable players with the hopes of signing Z to an extension at a lower rate than if he were a FA isn't such a bad idea.
  20. as is your use of the word "[expletive]" did tim enable search just for you so that you could find the word "[expletive]" and come and scold whoever uses it? How does he need search to find a post that was made in a new thread less than an hour before?
