  1. Catching up... Pirates trade Rob Mackowiak to White Sox for Domaso Marte. Pirates trade Mark Redman to Royals for Johan Bayliss and Chad Blackwell. Braves trade Johnny Estrada to Diamondbacks for Lance Cormier and Oscar Villarreal. Cardinals trade Ray King to Rockies for Larry Bigbie and Aaron Miles. Red Sox trade Edgar Renteria to Braves for Andy Marte. Braves sign Todd Pratt to one year deal.
  2. Link Interesting points: - "Pack your bags" for Abreu (Cubs as one potential suitor) - Cubs are the only potential suitor for Aubrey Huff - Royals and Yankees listed as suitors for CPatt (also "pack your bags")
  3. care to elaborate? The insanely high OBP and flexibility to play about 14 positions must scare some people.
  4. same ol' song and dance. guy can't hit outside of Coors career at Coors OPS over 1000 career away 249/301/394/695 ew [silver lining]But with him in the lineup, we're sure to win at least 2 out of 3 on our annual trip there.[/silver lining]
  5. I've been to Philly, Detroit, and Baltimore. I understand, Mr. Vazquez. I understand.
  6. One time Frank Sinatra came inside here and sat down in this chair. I said, Frank, you hang out with Julio Franco all the time, tell me, how old is Julio Franco? You know what Frank told me, he said, Hey, Julio Franco 137 years old. 137 years old!
  7. Dirt cheap, sooper dooper OBP. Why no EFFIN way???
  8. All of the infielders are going to end up in LA. The rest will be in Toronto.
  9. I don't even know why I'm defending Nixon, other than I'm starting to think he's the best alternative outside of Shawn Green that we have a realistic shot at.
  10. All forms of pitching. Their offense will also take a huge hit if Miggy leaves now that Palmeiro is gone. Oh, Sammy left too :cough: :cough:
  11. My biggest argument against Bradley is that I have no respect for him as a person. And this is really no comparison. Trot has averaged 120+ games per season over the last 7 years, and that includes the 48 games he played in 2004. Bradley has only played in more than 120 games ONCE and more than 100 twice (once was 101). Bradley has only had one season with more than 500 AB's. The next closest is 377. Bradley seems to always be injured and is coming off one of his best years. The others were average at best. As far as your Pierre reference goes, I have no idea what you're talking about.
  12. CPatt for Mora + Tejada + cash. Woo hoo!
  13. I'll take him for that 847 OPS the other 122 games and for the 955 OPS against righties he put up in the 3 years prior to last.
  14. How often do you face a lefty? 15, 20, 25% of the time? I don't see that as a huge deal considering he still has an OBP of .305 against lefties the past 3 years. Sure, that's uglier than you'd like, but it's .395 against the other 80% of pitchers out there. slightly less than 25%. And it's not a .305 OBP, it's a 306 slugging percentage. In 85 abs against lefties last year, he had 4 xbhs 40 games out of the year he's rendered useless. Sorry, no thanks. He's only a last option if Wilkerson, Bradley, Abreu, Huff, etc fall through. You mean Huff of the 701 OPS vs lefties? Not much of an improvement there. Or Wilkerson of the 737 OPS vs righties where he'll get thrice as many PA's? No thanks. I've made my feelings about Bradley well known. No thanks. Abreu would be fantastic, but it's not going to happen.
  15. How often do you face a lefty? 15, 20, 25% of the time? I don't see that as a huge deal considering he still has an OBP of .305 against lefties the past 3 years. Sure, that's uglier than you'd like, but it's .395 against the other 80% of pitchers out there.
  16. Look at that form a Baltimore point of view... They trade Tejada and a prospect and only get Bradley/williams/cedeno in return? If they trade him (note, they dont have to) they are going to want a bunch of young talented players to build a team around. I am firmly under the beleif it will take a package along the lines of Pie/Hill/Dope/Cedeno to even get a discussion started. I almost think if they're serious about winning, they may have to trade him. No way are they going to be able to compete in the East with their pitching staff. It would cost too much to get a bunch via FA, but I would think they would have to consider a package that included Pie, Cedeno, Williams, Hill/Guzman, and Wuertz/Novoa. They get someone who can step in at SS, a top prospect for CF, a ML-ready starter, another starter that is not too far off, and a decent reliever. 5 for 1? I'd do it with the list I just made.
  17. That's a no-brainer if one of them sends us cash too.
  18. I'm sure Hendry would trade Pie and/or Hill if it made sense. Tejada is one place where it makes sense, not in a deal for Kearns.
  19. That's what I thought, but I was a little more fond of Nomar than most.
  20. And Wagner. Compared with the Cubs that's a huge deal. I don't see how you can possibly name 5 teams that have done more to improve their team. I don't argue that they've had a bad history of making moves for names, but they didn't trade for Mo Vaughn here. They filled their biggest need with a huge bat. Then got LoDuca, who isn't anything special, but fills a position similar to the way Pierre does for the Cubs. And they got Wagner. This would be like the Cubs getting Abreu and Furcal, then adding Pierre. Sorry, forgot Wagner. Still, until Omar can prove to me that he won't screw this one up, I'll wait and see.
  21. What are you waiting and seeing about with the Mets? They had similar money to spend as the Cubs and similar must have positions (there's being 1B, the Cubs having RF). The Mets have blown the Cubs out of the water. They added Delgado and LoDuca. Big deal. They'll likely balance that out by adding Sosa within the next couple of weeks. The Mets have tried too hard to make a big splash over the past few years only to turn around and do something incredibly stupid to end up in 4th place again. I'll wait and see. Edit: I don't disagree that they've blown the Cubs out of the water, I just wouldn't put them in my top 5.
  22. I have to disagree with the Blue Jays at #2 (or in the top 10 for that matter). Paying $20 mil per year for a reliever and a starter who has been average at best away from Miami does not make for a great offseason. The Padres had me until the Mirabelli deal. They dropped a couple of grades in my book for that deal alone. The White Sox I can see. They didn't need to do a whole lot, and they've done a little more than that. They'll win the AL Central again. Mets? I'm taking a wait and see approach.
