    A guy who possesses 4 of the 5 tools, and is near the top in all of baseball with all 4 of those tools always makes sense. His LOW mark for runs scored is 101 and oddly enough came last year when he set the ML record with 262 hits. Show me where to stand in line to get that #51 Cubs jersey.

    I hardly call hoping for Ibanez and his 801 OPS to become available is optimism. Wilson's is 811 (wouldn't cost any prospects) and Burnitz's is 833 (also wouldn't have cost prospects). Jones is a little lower, but he's also 3 years younger.

    Burrell's 2003 was better than CPat's 2005. Burrell 2003 OBP: .309 SLG: .404 Patterson's 2005 OBP: .254 SLG: .348 Number of at-bats was similar. That really speaks volumes as to exactly how bad CPatt was last year because Burrell's 2003 was pretty darn bad.

    He had a chance, but I don't remember if he actually did file. I know he technically had a chance, what I meant was that he didn't actually file. Guess I didn't word that the best. Glendon: "I really didn't ever want to get to the point of talking to other teams." Can you blame the guy? Hendry pays top dollar for mediocre talent. Not a bit. Not one stinkin bit.

    Murton had a .342 BABIP in the big leagues last year(his AA BABIP was an obscene .376 by my calculations, completely unsustainable). Only 7 players in each league were able to do that last year and qualify for a batting title, and they are some of the best hitters in the game, or at least ones with styles conducive to a high BABIP(Wily Taveras doing his Juan Pierre impersonation). It's completely unreasonable to expect Murton to duplicate that. Murton is here to stay, and I'm guessing his OPS will be more in the 850-900 range consistently. I really don't see him struggling enough to give Dusty a reason to keep him out of the lineup. Murton is the type of hitter that this team has been lacking for too long (a good one). Remember, he was drafted by the BoSox, not the Cubs. He's bound to be good.

    So, the 900+ OPS is a fluke? He's going to post numbers nearly 200 points lower? 800 is his ceiling? That's a load. He puts up a 907 in his first sniff of the bigs, and that's not good enough for you? No possibility of him actually getting better with experience or putting up those numbers consistently with experience? I don't care if his numbers are driven by BABIP or anything else, results are what impress me more.

    You're comparing Konerko's value to someone who is vastly overpaid and still probably more valuable to a team because of the position he plays and the fact that he's a good lead-off hitter. 12 mil a year for Konerko is not a very reasonable price in my book.

    Don't worry, Burnitz will still be available in February. That doesn't help us one bit. We can't negotiate with him until May 1. If we're needing him and he's still around then, we won't be. Edit: Post #666, this thread is bound to burst in flames.

    Horrid. Agreed. But the team is probably no worse than if Wilson, Jones or Encarnacion were in right. I'd characterise choosing Wilson, Jones or Encarnacion for right field as paying a whole lot of money for a slightly safer bet that the team as a whole sucks just a meaningless little bit less. This front office seems most likely right now to go into next year with a lineup featuring Neifi and Cedeno up the middle, Murton in left field, Slappy in centre and something like Wilson/Jones/Encarnacion/Patterson in right field. At least when the Marlins have their fire sales, they unload all of their crap. It's like we know we're going to suck but don't want to let go of some people.
