  1. I'd give up Patterson for Pierre in a heartbeat. Patterson is the most overhyped prospect since Choi and will not amount to anything. If Patterson is "the most hyped prospect since Choi" and is scheduled to make about 2mil, why would Florida want him? It doesn't save them the amount of money it would if they got Nix? (FWIW, Patterson was a prospect well before Choi) Doesn't Corey make 2.5MM now?
  2. I'd give up Patterson for Pierre in a heartbeat. Patterson is the most overhyped prospect since Choi and will not amount to anything. Yes, but Corey will be slated to make more than Pierre so there's no incentive for the Marlins to take him.
  3. I have a feeling that if Damon goes down to 3 or 4, a lot of teams will start jumping. He should. A seven year contract is too much to give anyone much less a guy who's 31/32 or older.
  4. A big empahsis on the Cubs activity at the Winter Meetings. The Cubs have been very busy. Of course, the Abreu for Prior or Zambrano trade is not going to happen and that the Cubs have Pierre, Wilkerson, Gathright, and others on their radar.
  5. It's just every single move -- be it a signing, a missed opportunity, a loss, a bad game by a player -- spawns knee-jerk reactions out of most of them. There are plenty of great and insightful posters, but it does seem that there are a plehtora of dumbarses to go with 'em. I agree.
  6. I honestly prefer this place to Cards Talk. Yeah, more people post there, but for the most part, they're morons. Instead of realists, I like to call them "real-less." LOL, you said it not me. :P
  7. Prior's a risk??? Give me a break! How the heck is Prior a risk?
  8. I don't agree with his "two or three" young pitchers for Kearns. Yes, low prospects maybe.
  9. There's a lot of that going on over there today. :D
  10. No, not really. He's best at 1B or DH. If the Cubs acquired him we'd have to home that the friendly confines are just that... He's not good defensively.
  11. Ditto! He keeps getting hurt. I don't know if this is right deal but I am getting weary of Angel's constant setbacks.
  12. It's true. We'd be handcuffed like the Yankees have been for years and the payroll would be very bloated. It's a cool idea but talk about putting your eggs all in one basket. We still would need another outfielder (unless Corey stayed) and would have no bargaining chips left. We'd have to hope to resign the FA. On second thought, getting them both could be a problem for years...
  13. I'd have to ask them to throw in Dontrelle for that price, too. I wouldn't, it's Miguel Cabrera we're talking about here :) Why not talk about willis? I have talked about this before. If willis and cabrera want to go, we have to offer an amazing package so we can get Pierre, Willis, and Cabrera. It's only the PERFECT fit. We need CF, RF and another starter. Willis, Pierre, and Cabrera bring us to the WS no doubt. I don't think we have enough to get Willis much less both of them. They can have the farm if they want but there are better systems than ours.
  14. If they insist on Cano/Pie for Pierre who's a year away from free agency, they undoubtedly want half the team for Miggy. I don't see how a contender could afford him unless they would take loads of non plus players (like the Brewers pulled off with AZ). They don't have many "non plus" players left now I'm talking about our non plus players. I mean if they are willing to take all of our unproven talent (prospects).

  16. Why not just keep Dunn? My guess would be that the Reds might not be so keen on trading Dunn within the Division (short of fleecing the Cubs for him) but they might be up for a three way deal where he goes elsewhere. Dunn would be an outstanding pickup for the Cubs if they could swing it. That's better than Abreu in my book because of the age difference.
  17. I agree but other teams have to realize that the Phillies aren't coming from a position of strength. They have a hot commodity but it's hardly a new shiny toy (its more like an aged wine). They have a crowded outfield and they are shopping a still productive, yet aging, star with a big contract. No contending team is going to give them their number one or two pitcher (particularly not a young one). If the Phillies are serious about trimming their payroll and getting some young and inexpensive talent they will get flexible with their demands. If they are willing to deal with Williams, Hill, and some other lesser prospects then bring it on but I disagree with depleting the staff for a guy who's past his prime.
  18. This is typical nonsense. So they say it's below market when he's obviously overpayed. I guess if the Cubs had coughed up 14MM per year for 3 years they would have gotten an 'A' too.
  19. I would never trade Prior within the division. To me, that's worse than the Pirates trading Aramis to the Cubs... I doubt that happens. Plus, with the Reds actively shopping Casey (and Kearns) it looks like they plan to move Dunn to 1B. I think they're keeping him.
  20. Exactly... lol It's still a bit early for grades. I think Hendry has been setting us up for the Winter Meetings and beyond by continuing to say how busy the trade market would be this year. I think that was his way of saying that the Cubs would pursue a plethora of FA.
  21. What in the crap does this mean? That's an old expression. In it's true sense, it has to do with getting dressed up to go some place (namely church). It can also be used to describe a formal meeting. It sounds like something my grandfather would say. Dusty's showing his age. Anyway, whether we get him or not this dispels the myth the the Cubs haven't been doing anything (except chasing Furcal and bullpen guys) for the last month. Good to know.
  22. All kidding aside, the Cardinals can contend without Burnett (just as I beleive the Cubs can without Hendry's masterplan about Furcal). I'm sure Jocketty has a plan B if the Toronto rumors hold up.
