  1. The contract was incentive laden. He could have made 57.5 MM over 6 years. Part of the story doesn't make sense. Did he take the Dodger deal because he wanted to hit another big payday in 3 years (as a FA) or would he have taken the Cubs 5 year offer for a little more cash? George's sources might be garbage. The Braves GM said Kinzer never called him back to allow him to increase his bid. The same could be true here regardless of what Ofman says.
  2. That's a ridiculous statement. A team does not need a high payroll or a 13MM player to win a championship.
  3. He said upper management didn't want to increase the offer. Apparently, the agentgave them the opportunity to increase the amount and someone (above Hendry--not necessarily MacPhail) rejected the increase. It sounds a lot like what happened in STL with Burnett.
  4. The Rangers rejected the offer to swap Corey for Kevin: Says Rotoworld Bruce Miles
  5. Steve Stone's contribution to this on the Murph show: "He's a good pickup and he usually does kill the Cubs." He's a bitter man.
  6. It's possible or he could be telling the truth about keeping him for the future. if Pierre is signed longterm Pie could be a big bargaining chip.
  7. I wonder if anyone heard this interview or read the transcript about Hendry's plans for Pierre and Pie: So it sounds like I was wrong. Hendry will try to sign Pierre longterm and play Pie (if his development continues) in RF in 2007 (if Pierre extends). Read the rest of the transcript here (you need Acrobat Reader)
  8. Now where you at? where you at! Where you at! Now there he go there he go there he go there he go \:D/ \:D/ \:D/
  9. I was a little disappointed. Let's just hope he continues his Atlanta form in MIL because we will see him more often.
  10. MLB Radio says Kolb back to the Brewers for Wes Obermueller
  11. I realize it's Offman, but... why is it that everytime the Cubs trade for a player they always try and immediately sign him to a long term deal? If you don't like that practice, you'll probably get your wish if and when the Cubs acquire Bradley. LOL great point.
  12. George Ofman says that Hendry has plans to sign Pierre to a long term deal. Bruce Levine says the Cubs are still in discussions with the Rangers for Kevin Mench
  13. The Astros will not offer arbitration to Clemens.
  14. He was asked a loaded question. All he said is he's going to make moves to better the club and if that means not doing anything (ie not trading Walker) he wont. We all know he's gone...
  15. Neifi signed a contract knowing his playing time is "up in the air." That's good... Cedeno will play 2B if another SS is acquired
  16. on what? I just saw Joe Garaldi Edit-- There must be an internet delay. now I see him
  17. This is more information than I provided in the other thread. Thanks Giles Brothers!
  18. I bet that's not much higher (if at all higher) than what our leadoff men got on at last year. Average and Pierre only got on base at a .326 clip last year. is all well and good, but really, if player A has a .300 avg, and player B has a .250 avg, and both players have a .320 OBP, who gets on base more? Neither, OBP is what you want in leadoff men. I would hardly call him a MONSTER upgrade. Oh, and you mention you want your leadoff man to be able to steal....he got caught 17 times (out of 74 attempts) last year. You may say he had a much better year in 04, which, avg/obp wise he did, but his Base stealing was even more atrocious. he was caught 24 out of 69 attempts! I bet it was. The Suntimes says that the cubs plugged in 8 different leadoff batters and they hit a collective .248 I'll bet that translates to a much lover OBP. As I recall, we hardly ever had the first hitter on base (much less the second). D Lee batted first in a lot of innings too. It was pathetic.
  19. THANKS FOR THAT! I'm looking foward to watching that. I missed the Eyre and Howry PCs. What channel would that be on Direct TV in Chicagoland? I know what channel Comcastsportsnet is, but I'm a little scetchy with the different WGN channels. I don't know if it will be on television however, wgnradio.com is probably the best place to hear it. Also, espnam1000.com said, moments ago, that they "hope to have" Hendry and or Juan Pierre come on for an interview. Stay tuned.
  20. The Cubs will hold a press conference at 4pm to announce the trade
  21. Is Flip Wilson available? Is Flip Wilson alive?
  22. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!! Let's just assume Pierre bounces back to norm. Say he posts a .340 OBP 2006. .248 out of leadoff for us last year. MONSTER UPGRADE indeed. How do you think that will effect Lee's RBIs and our runs scored out of lead-off. Quite a bit I think. Thanks for pointing that out. To further your point: Be it at 2b or SS, Neifi' going to be there opening day, Dusty will find a way. Therefore, who's more acceptable leading off, Neifi or Pierre? Dusty proofing isn't improving. If Walker is traded, odds are pretty decent that Neifi will bat 2nd, at least for a significant portion of the season. Not if the Lugo rumors are true. Lugo would bat 2nd (possibly first with Pierre second). Most importantly, if Neifi cracks the starting lineup he would be in the 7th or 8th slot like he belongs.
