  1. Hmm, that can't be, I know the Sox had 2 runs on the board a few innings ago. Then again, MLB Scoreboard says the A's lead 7-4. Oh yeah, they played the Rockies yesterday. I think they are actually playing the Diamondbacks now. I the real score is 5-2 AZ I'm afraid you might be in the wrong. I'm watching MLB.TV and the Rockies just finished the game 8-1. Which means the Sox have been held to 2 runs over the first two games vs. the Rockies. Also, the Rockies broadcasters are really quite good and quite knowledgeble. How can that be? I'm listening to the Sox game right now on 670 AM. It's 5-2 There's an answer for everything! lol

  4. shortly after he finished the candy I swear I heard a pop can open... LOL
  5. And 7 CG SOs in a row will have it down to 1. Is that all he has to do?
  6. Wow, Corey gave up 7 runs in the inning. Without his quality outing the Cubs would be leading 5-0 (the good news).
  7. JH was robbed on a force at second. A run scores
  8. Pierre with a bunt single. bases loaded and no outs.
  9. Yeah it's hilarious dialogue. I believe it's a "'do-rag"
  10. One could also argue that the prototypical leadoff hitter, that Baker described, has been a victim of the "steroid era." For more than a decade, teams have focused on hitting homeruns while simultaneously diminishing the "value" of speed and stolen bases. Like big boppers in their time, small speedy players have impacted baseball (i.e. 1980's Cardinals teams). I suspect that the new rules against performance enhancing drugs will see a return to the so-called speed game to aid in stimulating offenses. Some of the most sought after position players this offseason have been speedy top of the order guys (Furcal, Damon, Pierre, Crisp, and Lugo [even though he remains in Tampa Bay]) while some career power hitters are either still looking for work, were traded, or relugated to minor league contracts because of age and declining health (which may be steroid induced).
  11. Chicago Tribune Rotoworld's take is kinda funny
  12. Before we get carried away with the worst case senario (Perez) in the second spot, I think that it's fair to ad that Mike Kiley in the Suntimes doesn't mention Neifi when he talks about Baker's decision:
  13. No he won't but you love planting the idea.
  14. DLee has the Gold Gloves so I say Pujols plays the OF.
  15. when has he shown up his teammates? :? there was one over-publicized incident against the Astros in June 2004: Z threw a tantrum on the mound when Todd Walker missed a play on the field. Walker called him out on it in the press after the game, which was a mistake: Dusty should have been settled that in the clubhouse, and besides that the Cubs won the game. Z apologized the next day and everyone put on a nice public face after that. The mistake was Z not apologizing to Walker at the end of the inning or after the game. The mistake was having a tantrum to begin with. It was ridiculous and unnecessary but many people will excuse it because Zambano is "emotional." The inning was not lost on that play and IIRC, it was Zambrano that caused the trouble by pitching wildly and putting the team in a situation where they had to execute perfectly on defense to get out of the inning unscathed. Walker also did not handle the situation well. I remeber him being interviewed on The Score about the incident and saying something like "he does that crap all the time." I don't see how Baker is to blame. Dusty probably did talk to them about it in the clubhouse after the game but I don't know a manager that has been able to quiet Walker (especially when he is asked directly about an issue). Walker probably should have avoided the media until he calmed down. Zambrano did apologize but he has to learn to avoid those situations.
  16. If I'm not mistaken, and I am not, Stone was the consumate professional and always diplomatic throughout his analyst career, until 2004. suddenly his sarcasm is biting, his tone sharp, and his opinions expressed in manor that does not merely state his opinion, but takes swipes at one organization in particular. the differencec is obvious. It could be one reason why his knowledge is so well-respected, yet nobody is willing to offer him a shot at GM. He definitely likes to hold a grudge----though I do think he got a raw deal from the Cubs. After all, the only thing he did was compliment Oswalt's performance at Wrigley. Why that set the whole organization off I will never know. 2004........the ultimate nightmare season in so many ways. How did Stone get a "raw deal" from the cubs? He turned down an offer by the organization to extend his contract (even though Carey was leaving). He chose to leave and has been bitter ever since. Stone may have chosen to leave, but only because Chip was pushed out the door by the Cubs. Personally, I think the Cubs forced both out. I don't think it's coincidence that the so-called "divisive" broadcasters left along with every other Cub that caused any problem at all in 2004 (Mercker, Alou, Sammy, et al.) I don't believe that is the case. Stone has used his three days a weeks on The Score as a sounding board to the locals. From the beginning, he has openly disputed the idea that the Cubs forced him out (in response to callers making the claim). He has been more than candid with his comments so there's really no reason to think that he isn't telling the truth about the contract situation with the Cubs.
