  1. Does that really matter in the scheme of things? Walker is the player and Baker is the manager. How is this different than what goes on in the regular workplace? Many times workers feel that management has wronged them but they don't talk about it publically. Now Walker is saying, on the radio, that Jim Hendry and Dusty Baker never lied to him. He says his comments were generalizations about his previous experiences on other teams... How could it not matter in the scheme of things. Most employees aren't interviewed by the media and asked about their relationship with management. Most employees don't have their bosses tell the media they are looking to replace them. Bringing that line of thinking into the discussion is completely pointless. This whole story looks like a classic case of people taking bits and pieces of quotes and deciding to roast somebody without looking at the story in context. Walker said nothing wrong. Teams tell players things to get them to sign. Oh wow, what a revelation. As far as anybody can tell, Walker never said Hendry lied to him. Dusty and his players have a history of telling the media two different stories about the supposedly same conversation. Why Walker gets taken to task for this is beyond me. This is a non-story that people are taking way too far. The Cubs have never said publically that they were going to replace Walker they said it is a competition. Also, the media aspect of speaking publically is obviously unique to this case but people do gossip and speak ill of others (including their boss) in the workplace. It isn't smart in either case and it doesn't bode well for his future because other teams are watching this drama unfold. Walker is being taken to task because his own words are coming back to bite him. Again, he is not in a position of power so he should prove his worth on the field (regardless of how he or others think of the process). If it was a simple matter of him having conviction in his words he wouldn't be back peddling. The Score just played an interview he gave today where he says he wasn't implying that Hendry or Baker lied to him. So which is it? I think he feels wronged but he doesn't know when to keep quiet. That's the problem.

  3. Murph on The Score is talking about Walker. He's asking the callers "if he's becoming a pain in the ass?" Surprisingly, Murph (a big Dusty hater) is supporting Baker's comments about Todd calling "somebody a liar." Baker said that he wasn't sure who Todd was talking about but he should bring that up man to man instead of in the media... IMO, Walker's days are numbered. listen here
  4. If the Lord is willing and the creek don't rise... Too bad the Cubs pitching already appears to be on the wrong side of healthy. Not really. If Wood and Miller are healthy in May, and the Cubs have a productive April, they could be poised to make a realistic run throughout the season. Heck, if one of Wood or Miller is healthy and Z, Prior, Maddux, and Williams pitch well (not to mention the bullpen) the Cubs might be fine. As usual, this team's pitching will dictate its success or lack thereof.
  5. Good point. He should do a lot less talking and more hitting because, even though Jerry was forced to take a few days off following the beaning, Hairston seems be winning the all around battle on the field. According to yesterday's game notes, Jerry is hitting .444 and Todd is hitting .231 so far this Spring. Once again, judging players with a long major league history on their performance in one month of the spring is ludicrous. For anecdotal evidence, I remember that even in his all-star years, Jeff Bagwell would routinely hit in the low 200's during the spring. I'm not giving it value (just showing the numbers as they stand). It was Walker who said he would out-hit the others in ST. He even boasted in the paper that he was hitting well. My point is that he should stop talking so much because its obvious that the Cubs are waiting for a reason to pick Hairston over him. His remarks about Hendry and Baker won't help his standing.
  6. Hairston was also injured last year. I think this whole thing is about the Cubs wanting to see what Hairston offers now that he's healthy (they already know what Walker brings to the table; he's a good hitter and below average defender). I also think the team had envisioned trading Todd by now... It still may happen.
  7. LOL, yeah this 2B competition seems to be full of drama.
  8. I think in this case it's just not the bat in question, it is also the defense. I agree. It looks like Hendry is impressedwith Hairston's improvements.

  10. Walker should really keep his comments about management to himself. As a fan, it might be fun to read but I doubt that we would last long at our respective workplaces by publically going against the higher ups. I think it's unprofessional. He should just let his play speak for itself. The Score loves to bate him as well because he doesn't know when to stop talking... On 2/21 Walker was on the Mike North Show and North seemed to be egging him on while also stroking his ego (North is a Cubs antagonist so this doesn't surprise me). I'm sure Walker's latest interview will make The Score Audibles page soon. Baker's comments in the Suntimes are also interesting. Walker also back peddling
  11. In other news, Tejada looks lost at the plate. I think he has 3 strike outs.
  12. Santana went 3 1/3 (?) and gave up 2 runs. Zambrano's mistake was a 3 run homer to Adrian Beltre. He's given up 4 runs, so far, but he's still pitching. I think Carlos got frustrated when he didn't get some close calls. The walks to Pujols and Ortiz (with 2 outs) in front of Alou set up the big inning.
  13. I'm glad. Hopefully Venezuela bows out early and he can return to camp.
  14. FWIW, CBS Sportsline's Rumor Mill, by way of the New York Daily News, says Lugo and Huff may still be traded. Link
  15. I did but I was also flipping around listening to a couple games so I might have missed a change in the battery. 8)
  16. The Cubs are gonna be good this year. Yeah, the Kool-Aid is flowing. :D
  17. Angel Pagan is from the Mets (I think). We got him a couple-three months ago.
  18. WOW, Pagan scores on a groundout to second. Can we do this all year??? Oh yeah Cubs Win! Cubs Win! Cubs Win!
  19. A's pitchout in consecutive pitches to try and thwart a squeeze. Now the runner is walked. runners at the corners.
  20. Pagan advances to 3B on a ground out. One out and a potential winning run on 3B. Neifi batting
  21. Pagan pinch running. Goes to second on a wild throw to 1B.
  22. Soto nails the runner trying to steal. Ground out to Wuertz. 2 down.
  23. Now AZ leads the Sox 7-2 on their featured Chicago game.
