  1. If said manager had Derrek Lee on the team with him it's quite likely he would. The Cardinal organization would go ballistic if ANYBODY stuck Albert in the outfield. You guys can have your imaginary fun, but in reality, it would NEVER happen. Pujols would start at first base, and Derrek Lee would be a pinch-hitter extraordinaire. The Ranger organization would go ballistic if ANYBODY stuck Alex Rodriguez at third base. You can have your imaginary fun, but in reality it would NEVER happen. Jeter would start at SS, and Alex Rodriguez would be a pinch hitter extraordinaire. Moving an athletic shortstop to third base is alot different than moving a big strong body to the outfield, where there's a higher risk of injury. If you want Pujols and Derrek Lee both on the team, then take Aramis off, and put Pujols at third base. Aramis isn't leaving the all NL Central team either. I'd still put AP in LF and DLee at 1B.
  2. He pitched poorly that game. In fact, Victor outpitched him.
  3. And then came back to hold St. Louis scoreless for 6 innings! That incident was overplayed by a lot of different parties based purely on speculation (especially since Z didn't talk to the media afterwards). He also had already thrown 80 pitches in that game. It was a little more than speculation. IIRC, the ESPN cameras were rolling when Zambrano went storming into the dugout past Rosthschild who was obviously trying to talk to him. Carlos didn't stop and Larry went into the clubhouse after him... Edit: Actually, ESPN was all too happy to show the incident after a commercial break.
  4. Novoa probably would have made the team without the illness. I think it will force him to pitch in AAA.
  5. With a 4 man rotation to start the season, expect 7 out of the BP. It looks like it's down to Koronka &Novoa, unless both Hill & Marshall are put into the rotation & they go with Williams out of the pen, which I doubt. It's down to Koronka and Novoa because Hill was sent down today.
  6. You're talking about the Z vs Z Mets game on ESPN Game of the Week.
  7. I knew it! They tried to downplay the injury. Giving longterm money to this guy was too risky. The breakup of scar tissue isn't a big deal. It's not like he's out indefinitely like Prior. His contract is ridiculous though. I think it's more serious. I don't understand why he needs to miss two start considering this happened over 2 weeks ago and he hasn't pitched to hitters since. More serious? ...as in the Jays are taking a page out of the Cubs' media relations book? Burnett threw 60 pitches off a mound 10 day after the scar tissue broke free (at 80%). he's scheduled to pitch a AAA game on Saturday. No, I'm not implying that they aren't telling the truth, just that with his preexisting shoulder issues a timetable might be difficult to determine. Like I said, initially, they planned for him to only miss one start. He'll actually miss about a month of pitching time from the day they took him out for "precautionary reasons."

I'm not a doctor but I play one on TV... I think it's more serious because the manager was saying he'd only miss one start then it was increased to two. It will probably be a month before he pitches again (from the onset of the problem). That doesn't seem minor to me; This happend 3/18 and he's scheduled on 4/16 (if healthy).

  10. It's not stupid. They changed the rules this ST. The Cubs were playing under NL rules because they want their pitchers to get hits this close to Opening Day. {The Angles used the DH) They used the DH earlier in the Spring.

  12. Yeah, gotta be a mistake. edit: I wonder if this Watson guy was wearing Wellemeyer's number ??? Yeah, he must have because Watson gave it up.

The Cardinals organization DID stick AP in the outfield. In your world, DLee doesn't have 2 gold gloves at 1B.
  14. Zambrano pitched well and was 2 for 2 with a double and bunt single.
  15. Hairston grounds out to Wood Game over. The Cubs lose 8-4
  16. Theriot out on a grounder. 1 down Theriot has a good chance to make the team.
  17. 2 outs bottom of the 8th Dusty making a pitching change...
