  1. Zambrano is our ace. There's no way I would trade him especially when you consider Wood's situation. As a side note, I'm not in favor of giving Kerry Wood II (A J Burnett) a 5 year deal. He too has questions about his durability.
  2. It's a good question especially in light of the new developments but I don't want Nomar back. I still think the Cubs need to concern themselves with guys who are both good offensive and defensive players. Nomar (and Todd Walker) are liabilites. I'd like to get a SS and let Cedeno play second. Or perhaps swing a deal for Castillo and play Ronnie at SS.
  3. I think Furcal wants to stay in Atlanta. There are some much better deals on the table. I hope Hendry has a plan b. Link
  4. Since I can't seem to create a new topic I'll post it here: Looks like the Phillies have signed Flash Gordon to a 3 year deal. Rotoworld: This just helps to increase Farnsworth's deal. The Rangers still think they have a chance to whoo him but most likely Farnsworth's agent is using them to get more money out of the Yankees.
  5. Quite the contrary, I've heard grumblings about Thome's alleged connection to steroids. Some people were/are concerned that his body appeared to break down in the midst of tougher drug testing. Could it be a side affect of nolonger using a performance enhancing drug? Also, his homerun and RBI production increased markedly after the age of 30. I am very curious to see what kind of offense he will provide (and if he can stay healthy).
  6. If that's all you want my vote is for Furcal in Pierre not Finley. :P Welcome!
  7. Agreed! I don't want to see that fossil in a Cubs uniform.
  8. The only thing I can say about Giles is the idea that any team would have given him 5 years, at his age, is ridiculous. The speculation about his "worth," in the FA market, was way out of step with reality. Also, I don't think he wanted to leave Padres.
  9. That's what I'm thinking as well. I don't see the Braves going to a 5th year though. I don't see the Braves guaranteeing 5 years either. Kinzer has two teams in the Cubs and Dodgers with money to spend so he's taking advantage of his leverage. I really think he's using the Dodgers to get more out of the Cubs. I wouldn't be suprised if a 6th year option gets thrown in (or dare I say 7 years? ) I hope we get furcal in the end.

  11. It's been widely speculated that the Cubs have offered 5/$50 for Furcal. I see this as a ploy by Kinzer to up the price. Perhaps he's trying to force the Braves into a 5th year (inwhich case, Furcal may pull a Giles or Konerko and stay put). I see the price and terms increasing. The agent is smiling widely!
  12. Furcal is better. It looks like Lugo is the Braves second choice is Furcal leaves. http://fantasybaseball.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.asp?sport=MLB&id=6451
  13. according to the rumor, the nats would want cedeno to play 2b as they think vidro is "done for his career". link: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/chicago_cubs/index.html I wouldn't put much stock in that rumormill.
  14. ST Louis Post Dispatch write Bernie Miklasz says the rumor that Burnett will be signed today is false: http://forums.stltoday.com/viewtopic.php?t=316359
  15. Sorry, but Burnett doesn't impress me. I think he's a risky sign at 4 or 5 years. He's basiclally Kerry Wood with slightly better control. They have the ability to be dominant but durability is an issue. He probably will sign with the Cards.
  16. Ughh. If Konerko is going to be getting on average @12MM a season for the next five years, I can't imagine what Lee is going to be asking for. That's why Hendry said he's going to do all he can to extend Lee before the start of the season.
  17. Bobby Cox won't have much to do with jiggling resources to offer Furcal more money. However, I think it goes without saying that Cox has helped with the psychological strategy.
  18. For what it's worth, MLB.com as well as the Yankee's site are reporting that the yabks have offered a three year deal between $15-$17 million http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20051129&content_id=1273948&vkey=hotstove2005&fext=.jsp
  19. Well, I'm joining in this one late but both Eyre and Howry are listed on the current 40 man roster as listed on Cubs.com:
  20. Now Bruce Levin is reporting that the Dodgers will "take a look at Corey patterson" for Bradley. Hmm...

  22. Interesting. I thought Hendry visited Furcal in GA on Sunday. In eithercase, I hope SS is resolved soon.
  23. Does it have something to do with Jimmy Edmonds and a construction worker? I'm here all week folks. Don't forget to tip your waitreses and bartenders. LMAO Hilarious
  24. The local media says it's all but a done deal (pending a physical). Mabry will probably be introduced tomorrow or Thursday.
