  1. LOL, I'm cool and didn't mean to be on edge but with the sniping that has been going on in this thread thus far, it's hard not to get defensive. By the way, "Francis" does not bother me...
  2. Wow, was that necessary? Sorry I forgot my spell check. How about commenting on the content of the post?
  3. Maybe Ohman is now expendable/trade bait? It's safe to say that Hendry feels Eyre will compliment Ohman (or vice versa). Daily Hearld: http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/sportsstory.asp?id=122715
  4. Are you kidding? What Furcal would really say is get Hendry on the phone NOW. If he's going to over pay for Eyre we out to make ought like bandits! :P
  5. I have news for you, with a last name of Pierre its safe to guess that French heritage is lurking in his past. It's pretty common in LA.
  6. OMG, I could actually hear her voice in my head...
  7. It's official: http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/press_releases/press_release.jsp?ymd=20051108&content_id=1265907&vkey=pr_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc
  8. If you don't like the crooked cap then you must add C.C. Sabathia. EDIT: Apparently I got here late... lol
  9. I forgot Garrett Anderson. He gives me the impression that he doesn't care and that he's lazy.
  10. Pierzynski--Trouble maker with a BIG mouth Beckett-- His one year of glory will cause me a lifetime of pain. He's cocky Buerhle--Conspiracy theorist who runs his mouth about things he's "heard." Oswalt-- Arrogant head hunter Bonds--Cheater and all around jerk Edmonds--Hollywood stuntman supreme Sheffield--Mr. "I won't play hard for any team I'm traded to..." Schilling--Thinks he's better than other players. Gives unsolicited views... McGuire-- A bad liar Retired: Joe Morgan Ozzie Guillen Rickey Henderson Willie McGee Dwight Gooden Darryl Strawberry Albert Belle
  11. The MLB never releases the name of the substance for which a player is suspended. Perhaps we are offbase by thinking he was caught using steroids. Maybe he used another drug like cocaine or amphetamines (which have been big in baseball). Just a thought... This doesn't necessarily equate to steroids: http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/press_releases/press_release.jsp?ymd=20051102&content_id=1263795&vkey=pr_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb
  12. If you read his quotes, Lawton claims he did not appeal his suspension. This rumor obviously involves someone in the appeals process. There could still be another one forthcoming. I did read it. Maybe Carroll is full of it because Lawton fits the other parameters of being an OF on a postseason team. We shall see... I'll admit it wasn't the juicy news I was looking for.
  13. For those that missed it, Matt Lawton was nailed! http://northsidebaseball.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?t=26299
  14. That's quite a stretch. Kasper is great. But Brenly is run-of-the-mill, at best. Stone was far more insightful. That said, I agree with the majority here that he wouldn't make a good GM or manager. Stone is a former pitcher and Brenly is a former catcher. As such, they both have unique insights into in-game strategy. The difference, I see, between them is Stone reads signs and acts as if he's a genius by calling pitches, pitchouts, and other plays ahead of time while Brenly will say he has read the sign and knows what's coming...
  15. I totally agree. Stone makes some nasty comments about the Cubs just to get reactions from the Score hosts...
  16. Leno, Letterman, Kimmel, Conan... No, dude, we're doing OPRAH!     What hapless moron in the Sox front office made that pathetic decision??? The Oprah is bigger than all those others... fixed  You're bad... I guess you haven't seen her over the last couple of years.
  17. He started to lose it in game 4 of the NLCS. Then blew game 5. Then blew game 2 of the WS, then blew game 4 of the WS. So? Mariano Rivera wasn't so hot last October. Or October '01. Lidge is still an elite closer, but if the Astros fans demand that the team remove him, well, come on over. In all fairness, Lidge can't be mentioned in the same sentence with Rivera. Lidge is outstanding when he's "on" but I'd like to see how he bounces back from his poor postseason before inviting him into the clubhouse.
  18. Not if he's developed a taste for choking in big games! He has been a fine regular season closer but his pedigree has hardly been established in the postseason when closing games is critical.
  19. FYI. the Cubs aren't going to pickup Burnitz's (mutual) option so RF is up for grabs. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/news/hot_stove/y2005/free_agent_tracker.jsp?teamAct=chn
  20. Leno, Letterman, Kimmel, Conan... No, dude, we're doing OPRAH!     What hapless moron in the Sox front office made that pathetic decision??? The Oprah show is bigger than all those others...
  21. I will not be happy if the Cubs don't make the playoffs in 2006. On a side note, has anyone noticed that Cubs.com is now featuring as one of it's "top plays" video of Prior striking out Sox players at the Cell in his return? There's also one that shows a game ending DP at Us Cellular and you can here Harrelson's voice in the tape talking about how the Cubs "...came in here and took 2 out of 3 from the best team in baseball." LOL, it wasn't there a few days ago. I think that's interesting and in some twisted way it must be someone trying to make Cubs' fans feel better because they didn't dominate us. If that's they case it's pathetic...
  22. Dusty on the playoffs this year:(I'm not making this up, it's in ESPN the Magazine) That's it, word for word, even down to the apostrophe in rootin'. Dusty's words actually made me smile. At least he gave an answer straight from the hip (for a change) instead of some BS thing like I'm rooting for my pal Ozzie.
  23. They will sell more than 2 million (just like this year). They have already lined up a few new season ticket holders for 2006 because emotional Sox fans want to avoid the playoff ticket problems of this season (the Sox organization is providing all season ticket holders a WS ticket--if they make it of course). In the end, the Cubs will maintain their larger fan base.
  24. That may be, but you know the grapes would be twice as sour if the roles were reversed. Many of us just can't congratulate the Sox, and there's nothing wrong with that. I don't know if that's true. The Sox fans have never considered themselves cursed and had a whole mythology that they latched onto, have they? They may have had years of ineptitude but they were not "lovable losers," a term that is sickening to most baseball fans who care about W-L. Cubs fans didn't invent the "loveable losers" label it's the media that invents and or continues to hype these things... If I never see another Cubs game on Fox where a goat is shown in the pregame it will be too soon! Fans just want the team to win and don't make excuses when they don't.
