  1. no. his decade of coaching GVSU is HC experience at much, much lower competition than Meyer's assistant coaching experience (OSU, ND, etc). They took 2 totally different paths.
  2. really? what big time program was he an assistant at? never worked anywhere bigger than Cincy you say? Ok, was his CMU record similar to Meyer's BG record? Somewhat comparable? 10-12 in his first 2 seasons. A bowl game in his 3rd season. No quite 17-6 in 2 years (and was CMU as pathetic as Bowling Green?). He's done well at Cincy, though he followed Mark Dantonio. But not quite Meyer's 20-2 in 2 seasons at Utah. He's got more experience as a HC at a younger age though in much, much lower competition. His path to BCS level coaching is nothing like Meyer's. Why are they the same?
  3. ND silent commit Louis Nix made his commitment public. Shortly after ND soft commit Chris Martin did what he said he'd do - formally re-open his recruiting if Weis was fired. It'll be interesting to see where Martin ends up, and ND's next coach has a lot to do with that, but getting Nix was huge.
  4. There's nothing clearly wrong with Kelly. But Stoops would be a home-run hire as opposed to Kelly's solid down-the-line double. JMO. Was Urban Meyer a solid down-the-line double for Florida? So Brian Kelly is Urban Meyer?
  5. there's nothing in that espn report that hasn't been reported and interpreted differently by different groups. Stoops hasn't rejected ND's advances directly. And come on CubinNY, it's like each post is more ridiculous than the last. You're pulling things out of thing air to support your conclusion.
  6. Yeah, I don't buy that. Tenuta, in 5 years, had 15 players drafted into the NFL from his defensive squads at Georgia Tech. Top 30 in total defense every year he was at Tech and was basically the only reason Tech ever finished above .500 under Chan Gailey. Tech's defense was on the field far more than the offense under Gailey. At Notre Dame, he's come into a mess. If Virginia comes to him, he'll be out of ND in a heart beat. I'd imagine virtually all the assistants are out of ND in a heart beat. Maybe those with ND ties will be kept on, but unless ND utterly whiffs on their head coach, the new guy's gonna want all his own people. Not that Prater ever seriously considered ND but now he most certainly will go to USC. Too bad for the Irish, he would have become their top receiver. At USC he might make second string. Ignoring some of the inaccuracies, Prater better than Floyd? The irony of your name is so fun.
  7. I have no reason to believe they haven't already talked indirectly with Kelly. And I think Kelly would do pretty much anything to get the ND job. I believe a week is plenty of time to figure out where they stand with Stoops. And the timing of OU/Cincy's seasons gives them an easy explanation for talking to Stoops this week and not Kelly (since he's got a game on Saturday). Kelly isn't going to feel spurned if he's not courted during the week before one of the biggest games of his career. If ND doesn't contact him next week (assuming the position is still open), he might be pissed. But I don't think that will happen. But they're different coaches. To treat Kelly as Stoops equal (or to claim his championships are great than Stoop's) is ridiculous. Stoops has consistently won at one of the biggest CFB programs in America. Is he looking for a new challenge? Looking to have his name put up with Ara, Leahy, etc? Maybe so, maybe not. But it's something you have to explore right now. And doing so this week in no way jeopardizes any chance that Kelly takes the job.
  8. He seems like a solid coach. But he's the fallback right now. Stoops may not take the job, but he's the first guy on the list. Since he hasn't told ND he's not interested, I'm not sure why they wouldn't press for him. Especially since OU's season is over whereas Cincy has another week. Gives ND 5 full days to quietly (or not so quietly) pursue Stoops and then turn to Kelly if Stoops ultimately says no.
  9. Patterson isn't even in the running. Coaches who aren't considered for other jobs use those jobs as leverage to sign extensions. It happens all the time.
  10. you've been alive 1 year? there were assistants on last year's team that were much worse. breath more, type less.
  11. Give Rich Rod a couple more years. You'll be sorry you made this comment. He might not have a couple more years if he doesn't improve the team quickly. I'm not saying national title contender, but 8-4 would be a good start. think they'll improve that much next year? Take Graham and Warren off that defense and how much can it reasonably be expected to improve? Seems like it'll be at least 2011 before they're contending for a Big Ten title again, won't it?
  12. Saban isn't even on the radar, but I doubt people are trying to mess with you redflash.
  13. Clausen will go too. I don't begrudge either of them. Ignore all the salary cap stuff, they put up the best numbers at their respective positions this year and their HC just got fired. Unless Bob Stoops gets hired and does an insane job of selling them on his ability to coach them to a title next year, there's no chance they come back.
  14. It'll be Stoops or Kelly. I'm really hopeful for Stoops, but Kelly seems, at worst, a lateral move. If Kelly can hire a decent staff and works hard at recruiting, he should be able to be successful. He appears to be a better fundamentals coach, which Weis couldn't seem to do. Would be nice to have a guy that's proven it at a bigger level. Stoops may reject the offer, but he hasn't yet.
  15. I'm trying to come up with a list of nsbb posters that I find less credible than Plaschke.
  16. apparently Golden Tate has made it known to some that he's going pro.
  17. what objective does it serve to throw a play action pass with under a minute left when you're ahead by 14 points? unless your answer is "to win by more points and embarrass the other team" you answered incorrectly. if i were a ucla offensive lineman i would have attempted to low bridge every usc player i encountered on the next possession until the game was over or until i was ejected from the game. Neuheisel shouldn't have called the timeouts then. Basically Carroll was telling UCLA good game before the TO. I would have done the same thing if I was USC. LOL, Charlie "the genius" Weis. Ty Willingham sure did mess up that game. do you even have a football team or are you just in here b/c you like to rag on those terrible kids at ND that ruined your childhood?
  18. no, a 3-loss USC team would get in first This would be a workable joke if it had any precedent at all. don't let facts get in the way of Derwood making his 3-loss USC joke. It's the only one he's got and he makes it twice in every CFB thread.
  19. why not? because notre dame is like 15-20 over the past three seasons. they suck just as much as the papa john's bowl. they had 1 tragic season and have gone to bowls in 4 of the last 5, including 2 BCS bowls. you're reaching.
  20. Barnes was putting up some pretty sick numbers, but suddenly Alexander has just 71 less yards and 2 less TDs than him and Barnes has 37 more catches. It's going to be a travesty when Shipley wins the award because he goes to Texas. And Barnes has been putting up his numbers going through the MAC. He combined averaged 7 catches for 47 yards against the two legit teams BG has played(Boise State and Mizzou). Shipley's special teams probably gives him a boost even though it shouldn't for this award. enough to get over Tate? ND flopped this year, but Tate's a human highlight film. it's too bad he runs crap routes or he might be truly dominant.
  21. you really need to get over this "everyone is out to get notre dame" thing. you really need to get over this "dave kaplan is a reliable source" thing. i don't even know who dave kaplan is, but he reported that clausen was in an altercation and had a black eye, which is true, so what's the problem. he reported that clausen was in a bar fight at 2:30 am on Sunday. Whether that's true or not remains to be seen. i have no idea which is closer to the truth, schad or kaplan, but kaplan's reputation isn't sparkling. ETA: much better source: http://notredame.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1020542 i'm not sure when they were leaving or if they had dinner or just drinks after dinner, but he was walking out with his parents and some teammates to meet his brothers, who were in the parking lot, when a guy sucker punched him. jeez - how many locals would sucker punch the best QB to ever play for their school? i hate south bend
  22. you really need to get over this "everyone is out to get notre dame" thing. you really need to get over this "dave kaplan is a reliable source" thing.
  23. That's not his argument. He's arguing that PSU is more likely to be picked for the same reason KU went over Missouri. He's not arguing that PSU deserves it more, but that because of these outside factors, they are more likely to be picked. Iowa deserves it more, but he isn't arguing who deserves it more. I know his argument. Derwood was arguing that PSU has better ticket sales and tv viewership than Iowa (or that the BCS perceives that to be the case). I'm disagreeing with him. I think those are, at best, neutral factors. If anything, Iowa may travel better than PSU. So if those things are neutral, I think it should go to the team that deserves it more. It may not, but that's why I said I'd be disappointed. If the $ factors were heavily in one team's favor, I could understand why the BCS bowl picked that team. But it's just not the case here and I'm not sure the BCS bowl committees have the perception that Derwood attributed to them.
  24. If one team clearly had more viewers and fans buying tickets, you could argue that H2H, ranking, schedule don't matter. But that's just not the case here. I'm arguing that the perception of the bowl selection folks is all that matters, not any actual facts I know. And I'm arguing that your idea of what the selection committee perceives to be true isn't all that accurate. Sure, but as long as you have highly subjective (and cash driven) committees picking these games, some facts and logic go out the window. At the end of the day, a BCS bowl could take either PSU or Iowa as an at-large and I wouldn't be surprised by either choice of course b/c you're a PSU fan. But I'd be very disappointed if a BCS bowl passed on Iowa for PSU. Just as I was disappointed when KU got picked over Missouri a couple years ago (and I don't like either of those schools). These are the kinds of situations where the BCS really doesn't work. let me ask you this: if you had to pick one of PSU and Iowa to be in a BCS game based on which one "deserved" it (not based on tv viewers or ticket sales), which would you pick?
