  1. count the potential candidates identified again - there are 5. 4 of them have ties to the Cubs (and only 3 of them actually expressed interest, though I assume Trammell is interested). I haven't seen any interest actually expressed by Joe Torre and that article doesn't show any either, so I didn't count him.
  2. who the f is craig brazell?
  3. this may be true, but people have been saying that his arm is going to explode soon for three years now, and during that time he's been one of the most valuable relief pitchers in the game. Which is fantastic, but why gamble on him being one of the very rare exceptions that doesn't fall off of a cliff? It's much smarter and better for the Cubs in the long run to sell high on him. i mostly agree, but our bullpen is already lousy and has very few major league arms, so trading marmol isn't going to improve that situation for next year. i guess my point was that people were saying "sell high" on marmol quite a while ago, and unless we got really fortunate in what prospects we receive, the deal would have been a negative for the cubs. I agree about the last couple years, but now he's no longer really, really cheap, he's just really cheap. And if I'm reading Cot's right, he's got 2 more arb years. He quadrupled his salary from 09-10 and will likely get a fat raise again for next year to avoid arbitration. I guess what I'm fearful of is Hendry giving him a 3-4 year deal to "buy" some FA years and then his arm falls off. I think now's a pretty good time to trade the guy b/c he's been dominant, is still under team control for a couple years, and he hasn't had any injuries. It's hard to imagine getting a better return that what you'd get now and the risk of hanging on for another year or two is pretty high, imo.
  4. So 4 guys who aren't currently managing and all have current or very recent ties to the club would like to be managers of said club?
  5. he should have punched the first baseman after that. You gotta catch that ball, son.
  6. he hasn't waited. he quit 2 months ago.
  7. Byrd is a badass. I like that he was summoned to NYC and said, "no thanks, I'm good" and it was dropped.
  8. The Pete Myers Era? Me too.
  9. haha yeah i was pretty sure that assertion was wrong, but didn't know how to prove it... good to see mlb.com still has those hit charts. What specifically in those hit charts proves his bad luck? I'm just not sure what I'm looking for... what I'm seeing, and this may not be quite right, is a bunch of "f"s and "d"s at the wall or warning track at Camden Yards (I didn't look at the other venues). When you click on Fly Outs, you see that he has 9 or so fly outs that were caught at the warning track or at the wall. He has 3 balls hit over 400' that were fly outs. When you click on Doubles and see that only 2 didn't make the warning track. So he's had 13 balls that hit the warning track or the wall and ended up being doubles instead of HRs (several of which appear to have hit a bird or something because they seem to be well beyond the fence). And for good measure, he's had a single that landed on or just short of the warning track. So, just at home, 20-25 balls that have made it to the warning track or the fence but were not HRs (on the other hand, 2 of his HRs at home barely cleared the short porch in right). That seems like bad luck. But I have no comparison. Maybe for guys that have 20+ HR power, this is normal. Doesn't seem like it though.
  10. preaching to the choir
  11. ever been to a game at lambeau in early december? there's really no place like it in football. score me some tix and i'd love to take in a game with you. you'll be the first person i think about if i can get my hands on some tickets. get a room
  12. Yeah, he's not done much though. He's 25 and has pitched well in the minors and poorly in the majors (in short stints). Not a bust yet, but not a guy to get real excited about either. but the point is, he was a valuable commodity when traded. A very valuable one (just like Salty). At minimum, the Braves gave up 2 highly touted prospects and 2 different guys that turned out to be quality major leaguers (or maybe really good major leaguers). that's a lot.
  13. really? I don't think that's true. John Holmes has the biggest boner ever Someone needs to watch some Blacks on Blondes. that's definitely not true.
  14. have you seen the depth on ND's o-line? I'm not sure the corpse of Matt James isn't our best option at LT. also, edsbs is still great: http://www.everydayshouldbesaturday.com/2010/7/15/1571241/journalistic-pro-tip-make-sure-the
  15. Honestly, the trade to acquire Teix wasn't nearly as bad as trading away Teix for Casey Kotchman and Steve Marek. That was a simply abysmal trade and it was Wren's. If the Teix deal ends up basically being Feliz and Andrus for a year of Teix (and first dibs at re-signing him), that's not an awful trade. oh, no doubt wren's trade was worse. and the Salty/Andrus/Feliz/etc for Teix deal wasn't "awful" for Atlanta, but that's not really the standard Atlanta set pre-Wren.
  16. so you guys are saying it was before Wren took over? :D Guess Schuerholz wasn't perfect either.
  17. How's Saltalamacchia working out for the Rangers? Not well, but Neftali Feliz and Elvis Andrus are doing very, very well. Casey Kotchman also has a .670 OPS as a 27-year-old first baseman for the Mariners right now. Yeah, Salty was the guy most media picked up on and he may have been the #1 target, but Andrus and Feliz are an incredible pair of young players. Was Wren the one that made this move or was it right before he took over?
  18. really? I don't think that's true. John Holmes has the biggest boner ever
  19. Look at your reactions in this thread. You are not ready for a nemesis. alright - everyone take a step back from the ledge and go back to subtracting fractions.
  20. yes and a poster can hop back and forth across the line in the same thread
  21. it's not just that post, it's every post you've made in the last 100 or so pages of this thread.
  22. Man, most people are really stupid. Yeah, you're proving that. Reason: Absuive >> This post contained abusive material Reason: trolling
  23. Why is it irrational to want to be on a great team but be the clear leader of that team? I'm not sure if he'll be seen, historically, as the leader of this Heat team or if Wade will. But I think if he had won several titles with the Knicks, Cavs, or Bulls, it'd clearly be LeBron's teams, like the 90s Bulls were Jordan's and the 80s Celitcs and Lakers were Bird's and Magic's. If LeBron wants that kind of legacy, I think going to Miami was a mistake. I'm not surprised that people disagree with the "go to a good team, but not a team with an established top 5 player" thing. But you seem to be really bent out of shape about it.
  24. you really don't see the difference in going to Miami, where Wade is established as the Guy, and going to Chicago where there are some good/potentially great pieces in place but LeBron would be the leader of the team?
