  1. Wood with 74 pitches with no K's in 3 .2 innings. I hear the DL calling him!
  2. Why do you think they have been giving him extra days off?
  3. Rodger Clemens got very poor run support last year. I'll bet he is going to really love the support he gets from this crappy Astros team. They have been playing as bad or worse than the Cubs for almost a month!
  4. Next week at this time the Cubs could be in last place and Dusty given his well deserved extension. Pittsburg has won 4 in a row and plays SD at home for 3. SD has cooled off and not playing like they did against the Cubs. Then they play at Colorado. The Cubs play 3 at StL and 3? at Houston! Unless Nevin comes in and contributes right away and the pitching holds up, it would be no surprise!
  5. He is also good at smashing water coolers after he strikeouts out which he does quite often. He smashed one recently at Texas and the manager said, "Don't do that. You'll liable to get hurt and we won't be able to trade you!"
  6. Why would you beat a left hander yesterday with some offensive production and then change the lineup? Was it because Barrett didn't play? I personally don't think he is that good of a play caller and if something works, why not stay with it?
  7. Baker must gets a kick back from Nefi because he has a bonus clause for games started!
  8. I wonder what the Cubs record is when Baker does his patented "double switch? Somehow I think he is going to it again tonight!
  9. One of the biggest jokes that is overlooked is that all six of Bonds homeruns, the Giants lost the game! (Nobody has mentioned this to my knowledge.) He is nothing but a selfish arrogant racist and regardless of his ability, should not be given any praise for breaking a record while cheating! Plus, not signing the ball for the veteran who caught 713 in Philadelphia was just another low point in his career of which there are many!
  10. These days no lead is safe. We need every run we can get. You're right!
  11. Pierre did his Sosa impression, getting a key hit with a three run lead. Can you say pressure?
  12. Wood has been ouchy, I think Baker made the right move here. Of course, the bullpen never seems to hold the lead for him. Maybe today will be the day!
  13. Is the wind going to be blowing out tomorrow? If so, I am taking out a loan and betting the over "20"!
  14. "But many of the fans are looking at Baker, a three-time manager of the year while with the Giants, who took San Francisco to the World Series in 2002 and then nearly got the Cubs there the next season. No one is taking the Cubs' troubled times harder than Baker. "This is not a man who sits on his laurels. He was a heck of a player and has been a heck of a manager for a long time," Hendry said. "I think people need to understand it's bothering him just as much as anybody who works here. ... It's a very tough time. He's got it in him to help pull us out." Or IN which ever comes first!!
  15. Remlinger thought he was still a Cub and tied to lose. Very sad! :x
  16. Marshall has 86 pitches. Wouldn't you pinch hit for him? I will bet he pulls him next inning for a double switch!
  17. The Braves are giving the Cubs a chance today leaving all the runners on. This game could very easily be out of reach!
  18. That's a very impressive schedule you have, Fred. Since the Cubs have only come from behind twice in the late innings, maybe they should hire the bugler from the Arlington Cemetary to play "Taps" instead of "Take Me Out to The Ballgame" if they are trailing in the 7th inning this week!
  19. After being staked to a 3-1 lead in the fourth inning, Maddux gave up five runs in the fifth after retiring the first two batters. Uggla hit an RBI triple, Mike Jacobs doubled him home and Maddux then intentionally walked Cabrera to get to Borchard. (HERE IS WHAT HE REALLY SAID!) "I made the decision there, it was Cabrera or Borchard," Cubs manager Dusty Baker said. "Cabrera is one of the top hitters around. And then (Maddux) just made a mistake, probably the only real mistake he made. ... Then Cabrera comes up the next time and hits a three-run home run off of Novoa. So you're damned you do, you're damned you don't. "
  20. "We are not used to playing before such a small crowd. Not hearing any crowd noise seemed to get us out of our rhythmn. " "I thought we had turned the corner Sunday, but the long trip to Florida must have taken all our energy. It will feel good to get back in our beds after such a tiring road trip."
  21. Not unless they have a cushion with his name on it!
  22. When his "job" started depending on it?
  23. Maybe if I mention this I will have to eat my words, but tonight looks to have the perfect matchup for a loss, a crappy lefthander who got rocked in his last start against Kerry Wood. Wood isn't quite back to normal and on top of that usually gets poor run support. The good news is the Cubs supposely have a lefthanded batting practice pitcher. Maybe that will make a difference. Jones hit a homer off a lefty Sunday, do you think he will start tonight? My guess is yes for his stellar defense! :D
  24. I really don't know if performance or fan reaction matters one bit in terms of Dusty getting his extension. I don't think it matters either. What did Baylor do to get fired? Was he as bad as this or worse?
  25. Cubs need help. Why isn't Womack here yet? :(
