  1. Fire Hendry now. I went to 25 games in 2005, but 0 this year because I knew this team would be bad. It looks like I'll be going to 0 in 2007, too.
  2. Fingers crossed for Cezar Izturis... Why do we like Izturis again? (im not a big fan) I was totally kidding. If it really is Izturis, let's storm the Trib building and fry Hendry in his own fat.
  3. Maddux has a 14.9 VORP. That would make him a #3 starter for the Dodgers. He'd be a #4 for the Padres. His groundball to flyball ratio is #11 in all of MLB. That would probably be more helpful to the Padres than the Dodgers, as PETCO's park factor shows that it keeps a lot of flyballs from becoming homeruns, and SD's defensive efficiency is #2 in the league. He would help both teams - LA needs pitching more than San Diego, but Maddux's game is tailor made for the Padres.
  4. According to Will Carroll, the Dodgers are the frontrunner for Maddux. Hendry is willing to take on some salary if a trade is made as long as he can get a "upside with questions hitter" like Guzman or Kemp.
  5. One less option for the Cobs. I can't wait to see who the Cubs have in the OF next year. Right now, I'm thinking Hendry will resign Pierre and sign someone like Luis Gonzalez or Ryan Klesko.
  6. Pierre is closing the gap, but he's still got a ways to go. He's #21 in VORP of all centerfielders. Corey is #14. And Juan has a lot more at-bats than some of the people that trail him in that statistic. We wouldn't have had to give up Nolasco and two other pitchers to have Corey in CF this year, too. Nolasco's VORP trails only Z, Eyre, and Howry. And Corey is about $3 million cheaper than Pierre. IMO, Pierre has to outproduce Corey convincingly for the trade not to be a total disaster.
  7. He's #5 in hits, but not in the top 40 in average, which shows that his high hit total is aided by the fact that he gets more atbats than other players.
  8. Ozzie Smith definitely belongs in the Hall of Fame. no. not so much. Career 123 wins above replacement player. Ernie Banks, for example, also career 123 WARP. There are several shortstops that probably shouldn't be in the Hall of Fame (thank the Veterans Committee), but Ozzie isn't one of them.
  9. Ozzie Smith definitely belongs in the Hall of Fame.
  10. Time to go trolling on Cards message boards. Just kidding.
  11. If Dusty were still in the game, he'd pinch hit Neifi here.
  12. He tried to stab Montague with his toothpick. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets arrested for assault.
  13. Clearly he is not familiar with the run expectancies matrix.
  14. Ronny trying to bunt. Ball thrown very high and inside. Looked like it hit him in the hand as he tried to get out of the way. Montague said he didn't pull the bat back, so no HBP.
  15. It could set things up for another Cubs' brawl on a Saturday FOX game. Zambrano pitches Sunday. Edmonds should start picking out his body armor now.
  16. The Cubs should turn off the hot water in the visitor's showers for the rest of the weekend. That would interfere with Jim Edmonds' postgame rituals.
  17. The tying run is at-bat - and it's Albert Pujols! - and there's one out.
