  1. you get no help from the Diamond Jaxx.. Huntsville with a big win 11-3. Huntsville and Tennessee deadlocked in the North with the Jaxx five back as we head to the final twenty-five games in the first half of the season. It might be time to place the "I'll shave my head if you guys win the first half" bet.. what do you folks think?? lol
  2. We at West Tenn will try our best to beat Huntsville so the Smokies can have a one game lead. Until the Jaxx beat them soundly in Jackson next week.. lol
  3. I knew someone would ask for it.. Okay, here you go: #1 Angel Guzman (West Tenn-2003) #2 Dontrelle Willis (Carolina-2003) #3 Rich Hill (West Tenn-2005) #4 Danny Haren (Tennessee-2003) #5 Bobby Jenks (Birmingham-2005) BTW, Murton is number six on my list of everyday players
  4. BTW, that list is everyday players.. I have another list just for pitchers.
  5. For those interested, here is my top five Southern League players that I have seen since 2003: #1 Miguel Cabrera (Carolina-2003) #2 Evan Longoria (Montgomery-2006, 2007) #3 Delmon Young (Montgomery-2005) #4 Prince Fielder (Huntsville-2004) #5 Joey Votto (Chattanooga-2006) Not too shabby of a list if you ask me. Scott Moore and Felix Pie would probably make the top ten or fifteen if I lengthened the list.
  6. Evan Longoria is quickly becoming one of the five best everyday players I have seen in my five years in the Southern League.. What a player!!
  7. Soul, I understand what you are saying.. all I am saying is it doesn't make sense for MLB to keep Bonds in the game if they have evidence that can throw Bonds out of the game. Bud Selig desperately wants to clean the game of steroids and doesn't want Bonds to break the record. So, if they have anything on Bonds that could force him out of baseball, Selig would see to it that its used.
  8. Garwilly, the court of public opinion isn't any different than the court of law. I understand that the fans have a right to voice their opinion, but trashing a persons reputation (even a person who is hard to appreciate like Bonds), is wrong.
  9. Ask yourself this question... Knowing that Bonds is a hated person in the game (and he is).. and knowing that there is nobody who wants him to break the record (Even Selig has said he might not be there when it happens)... I ask you.. Don't you think MLB would have nailed Bonds to the wall by now with all of the so-called "mountain of evidence" that they allegedly have? The obvious answer is yes.. So, why hasn't MLB gone through with nailing Bonds?? Because they DONT have anything on him except alot of hear-say.. Until he tests positive, NOBODY has anything on this guy.
  10. Two problems with the "evidence": #1 It wasn't "leaked" info, it was stolen information. Stolen by the newspaper writers "source". That would be the reason why the writers are serving/served a jail sentence #2 Once again.. you can have all the mountains of "evidence", but the reality is Bonds hasn't tested positive for anything. Until he does, it's all hear-say
  11. you got a real story then.. I assume you have the proof (blood and urine samples, etc.) that he did do it. If you do, your one up on Major League Baseball since they don't have ANY proof that Bonds did steroids. I'm sure Bud Selig would love to see your "proof" being that he and 99% of people in baseball don't want to see Bonds break the record.
  12. Barry Bonds is the Ty Cobb of the 21st century.. the guy might be a jerk, a-hole, etc.. but give him his due, the guy is also one of the five greatest everyday players in the history of this game. On another note, enough with the "Bonds is on Steroids" crap.. it's never been proven via a test and unless I suddenly moved out of the United States, we are still a country that firmly believes in "Innocent until PROVEN guilty." The sad truth about our society is everybody wants to accuse someone of something (The three guys at Duke is a great example) and then when it's proven that nothing happened, the same people who screamed the accusations don't apologize with the SAME passion and intensity that they used when falsely accusing them in the first place. In closing, Tony Dungy is a classy guy who doesn't deserve that cheap shot. Nobody who suffered the death of a son or daughter deserves that.
  13. Look, no dissrespect to the organization that I worked for. But in my four seasons as the broadcaster with the Double-A team (2003-2006), Matt Murton was hands down the most talented player in those four years (that's right Cubs fans, even more talented then Felix Pie). You can write this down: Matt Murton will hit 20-25 homers a year and hit .300 on a yearly basis for years to come. The loft he has on his swing is condusive to home runs It's just a matter of him filling his body out. Trust me, in 1-2 years this kid is going to be a stud. I only hope that the Cubs don't bury Murton for a past his prime guy who inevitably will hurt himself and the franchise if he plays everyday.
  14. If they were to send Murton down, it would prove to me how inept their thinking is.
  15. As strange as it is for you guys to say Smokies, it's REALLY strange to not have the Cubs here.. good luck to the Smokies (until they play us of course)
  16. I'll guarantee you the last thing the Cubs are looking at in Prior's start is if he was the losing pitcher. The fact that he made an encouraging start is the best news of the day regardless of the decision.
  17. If you think rain sounds crappy on the radio.. you ought to hear what thunder sounds like.. I had a game in West Tenn last year where a loud clap of thunder erupted just as we went back on the air from commercial break.. scared the crap out of me..
  18. The Bears played just like we thought... you wanna crown them, then crown their a**es... Dennis Green makes me laugh..
  19. That should be it for Prior.. very good outing to build on..hopefully, he keeps improving
  20. He should go one more inning.. he's working on getting velocity back on his fastball while still throwing the off-speed pitches to keep those pitches fresh.. this is a work in progress.. I imagine he will start the year in extended spring where its alot warmer than Iowa and he will get better with each appearance..
  21. There isn't anything wrong with Prior, he just needs to get into his routine.. keep in mind, he hasn't been healthy in quite a while..have patience gang.. things will be okay
  22. Raisin, you should have seen the look on my wife's face when I came home bald. Lets just say that I don't make anymore bets like that.. lol
  23. Murton and Greenberg were called up together.. right after the last game of a series in Sevierville (ironically enough). The guys were left behind because they were supposed to have been called up to Triple-A Iowa. Jaxx manager Bobby Dickerson got a call from Oneri just as we were leaving the park. Oneri told him that the Cubs had sent down Corey Patterson and Jason Dubois and that Murton and Greenberg were to report to the Cubs. Bobby gets off the phone and tells everyone on the bus the great news. Then he calls Greenberg and turns his cell phone on speaker for everyone to hear Adam and Matt's reaction (God I love fancy cell phones). Lets just say that those two sounded like girls at a Justin Timberlake concert. They were screaming like girls.. that might be the best memory I have from that season.. that and losing my hair when the Jaxx won the second half. I hope Adam gets another shot. He's a great kid.
  24. Rocky has always had an explosive fastball. It sits in the low90's, topping out at 95 (give or take 1-2MPH). He also has a FILTHY slider. It's good to see him putting up great numbers this spring, but its even better to see him completely healthy. Rocky blew out his elbow after his first start in the 2005 season at West Tenn. He did the Tommy John surgery and came back last season. He looked very impressive last year but missed part of the season with a bone spur on the middle finger of his pitching hand. He's got a legit chance to make the trip north. I would love to see another West Tenn alum on the Cubs opening day roster.
  25. Chris, I'm not sure how the Cubs have done their pre/post game stuff in the past since I was normally on the air doing my own thing with the Jaxx. As far as getting a hold of Mick goes, if you need me to introduce you to him or be a buffer for the time being, it's no problem. Mick and I talk 3 or 4 times a week.
