  1. You mean, we are ACTUALLY going to have people in Pringles Park?? woo-hoo
  2. good luck to my ex brethren this series... BTW, how's that Theriot kid working out for the Cubs this year?? :)
  3. I know one thing.. the Jaxx cannot afford to lose more than twice in this series. I would like to take 4-5 from the Smokies and win the division. It will be tough and I fully expect the Smokies to be alot better than our first meeting in late April.
  4. Samardzjia didn't even hit 90 on the gun tonight. He struggled mightily with every pitch except the change up, which he located pretty well. This is my second time seeing him since his move to Double-A and I haven't been remotely imressed with either performance.
  5. Well, I got a chance to listen to Marty had to say (I don't get as much of a chance to listen to a major league game). The only thing that bothered me about the "tirade" was that it got WAY too personal toward the end. Obviously, Marty thinks the Reds are a team that is going to compete in the Central and he might be right. But to sit back and say that the Cubs are "going to find a way to screw it up" goes well beyond the responsibilities of a broadcaster. For those who haven't heard Marty, he tends to "tell it like he sees it", which is okay, until it becomes a personal attack. Are Cubs fans obnoxious? A small minority which seems bigger because there are a ton of Cubs fans throughout the baseball world.
  6. E Patt goes up and now ladies and gents.. you can make it official.. the Cubs want NO PART of Matt Murton anymore.. sad..
  7. I believe Andy Masur's partner is Jerry Coleman, Hall of Fame broadcaster Jerry Coleman (granted he is so old he was the serving boy during the Last Supper)
  8. I hope Geovany's "career year" didn't take place in 2007. When he was with the D-Jaxx in 2004 and 2005, he didn't even come close to putting up the numbers he did last year. I hope that he can pick up where he left off next year, but I have a strange feeling he's not.. God, I hope I am wrong.
  9. NEVER MIND.. I just showed off my Ohio education.. I'm SO embarrased.. lol
  10. Jersey, multiply those numbers out from Double-A to Triple-A. In other words, Pie has a little more than four times as many plate appearances in Triple-A. If you multiply the Double-A numbers by four, its basically the same if not worse. 64 walks in 848 plate appearances if you do the math. That's one fewer walk in twenty-five fewer plate appearances. About the same..
  11. I saw Pie lead-off when he was at West Tenn in 2005. I said it then and I will say it now, Pie isn't a lead-off hitter. The guy has zero plate discipline and doesn't get on base nearly enough to be a lead-off hitter. He would look good in the six or seven hole.
  12. I broadcast in that league 2000-2001) before I got into affiliated baseball. When I was there, it was as good as High-A ball. It's probably between Low and High-A ball with a couple former big leaguers and a smattering of Triple-A guys trying to work there way back to affiliated ball.
  13. I have been told that Ryno is staying in Peoria, Jody is staying in Daytona and Buddy Bailey and Pat Listach are flip flopping with Listach going to Iowa and Bailey going to Tennessee.
  14. For the record, Manny is 35 and will be 36 in late May. A-Rod is 32 and will be 33 in late July. While it is true that it would appear that Manny is declining, remember that he missed most of September with an injury but was still able to put up good numbers. Of course if you guys watched the post-season, you saw Manny have a monster ALDS and ALCS.. proving that he is nowhere near the end of his career. Are A-Rod's current numbers better than Manny's? Obviously, this past season, A-Rod had a great year and was head and shoulders above Manny. What about 2006? Manny had an OBP of 1.058 compared to A-Rod's .915 Manny also has about 300 less career AB's than A-Rod yet has drawn 210 more walks than A-Rod over his career. He gets on base at a far better clip, something the Cubs desperately need. Mephis, I hate to break it to you but A-Rod isn't a good guy. Fact is, the guy is a prick in the clubhouse not only to the media, but to his teammates. BTW, he had to move to 3B.. otherwise the Yankees weren't going to sign him. A-Rod didn't move over there out of the goodness of his heart, he had no choice because the Yanks already had their man there in Captain Jeter. The original question was would you want A-Rod for $30 million or Soriano for $18 million. I would take Soriano and spend the remaing $12 million on pitching and a RF or a CF. In a perfect world though, I would rather have Manny and his $20 million batting third in the lineup and taking the $10 million and spend it on pitching and a RF or a CF, preferrably a left-handed hitting RF or CF. Could you imagine.. Ramirez, Abreu, Lee and Ramirez hitting 3-6 in the lineup? Now that's BIGTIME...
  15. Ah yes, who could forget the ever popular eqad numbers? When in doubt (you know when Manny is clearly better in his career in BA, OBP, SLG, OPS), all A-Rod fans have to pull something out there to make their boy look good. Bottom line is Manny has the better numbers and he has two rings and a WS MVP. A-Rod? Great regular season player and he could go on to surpass Manny's career numbers one day, but unless he changes his attitude real quick.. he's a more talented version of Gary Sheffield, a clubhouse cancer who puts up great regular season numbers.
  16. Mephis.. please list all 25-30 runs Manny cost his team this season. Can you do that? You can't because that number doesn't exsist. I love how people throw numbers out of thin air like that's the "official" number of runs he gave up. I can recite a number for you.. two. The number of errors Ramirez made this season. I can recite for you another number.. six. The number of errors Soriano made this year. Does that make Manny a better fielder? Of course not, but two errors don't make him horrible. As far as defense in left or right goes, I will gladly take a guy with a career OPS over 1.000 with average at best skills in left over a guy who plays solid defensively but doesn't get on base nearly enough and has horrible pitch recognition skills to be considered a lead-off hitter.
  17. Again.. LF is not a defensive oriented position. It's a corner position and offense is the number one thing your looking for. I agree Manny isn't the fleetest of foot out there, but since when is 37 errors over the last two years considered "good defense" at 3B? And when the heck was he ever "great" defensively at SS? He made fewer than 10 errors in a season just ONE TIME at short. Besides, A-Rod's days of playing SS are long gone. He doesn't have the skills to play there anymore.. (that's not just my opinion, but a ton of other people's opinion within the game).
  18. Mephis.. with all due respect.. Manny has been anything but a butcher in the last two years. A .989 % in 2006 and a .990% this past year doesn't exactly scream "butcher". I will agree that he won't be mistaken for Bonds in his prime out in left, but he isn't as horrible as you would think. Plus, he has a solid arm.
  19. IMB.. I don't think that's career numbers.. could be wrong though.. Rocket.. why would I include defense? Both guys are corner position players. Offense is the biggest thing from corner players. Again, I am looking at both career numbers and Manny has Pay-Rod beat in batting average, OBP, slugging and OPS. I am just reciting the numbers that you guys hold dear to your hearts. Using those numbers (and A-Rod's horrible post-season numbers over the last four years while Ramirez has two titles and a WS MVP), how can you say that A-Rod is better??
  20. I would take Soriano and spend the 12 million on pitching or filling holes in the lineup. BTW, with all due respect to A-Rod, he isn't the best player in the game. There is a guy in the AL East who has a higher career batting average, OBP, SLG and OPS. He has also won two rings and was named MVP in the 2004 WS. His name is Manny Ramirez, who unlike A-Rod, actually hits in the clutch and isn't 0-31 with runners on base in his last three post-season appearances.
  21. The Rockies have been THE story in this post-season, but the World Series is going to be alot different for this team because they will be facing a complete club in Cleveland or Boston. Either team has a monster size advantage in the starting rotation (Francis would be the third starter in Cleveland or the Boston rotation) and both Cleveland and Boston are just as good offensively if you go up and down the lineups. The saving grace for Colorado is that bullpen and there incredible defense. If the Rockies starters can get the lead through six innings, the magic rolls on...
  22. Lord, that was fascinating how you used your incredible math skills to come up with this power rating. One question.. does this formula include pitching? If it did, I would be curious how the Yankees (with a below average pitching staff) would wind up number two, ahead of Cleveland (who has a very good pitching staff).
  23. USSoccer, Theriot's not fast?? What are you watching because it sure isn't Theriot, or baseball for that matter. Twenty-eight stolen bases and was only caught stealing FOUR TIMES this season. Not fast?? Please.. abuck, I can only tell you what all the scouts have told me when i chat with them. They are looking for defense first at SS, 2B, CF and C. If the player can't play defense in those positions, then he doesn't get a serious look, unless he puts up better than average numbers offensively.. and if he does.. he in all liklihood gets moved to a corner position. As far as Theriot being "nice to me", I'm a broadcaster who doesn't care if a player likes me or not. My opinion of a person's worth as a baseball player isn't measured by how often I talked with the person or how nice that person was to me. Seriously abuck, you sound like a moron or a very insecure and jealous person when you make those stupid comments.
  24. We agree to disagree on this subject. You guys are using OPS and slugging percentage for a position that doesn't have a ton of power hitting guys. Rollins was the only player that hit thirty home runs at SS. Seven other players hit 20-29 homers. Twenty-two other teams had their SS hit fewer than twenty home runs this season and thirteen of those twenty two teams had shortstops that hit fewer than 10 home runs this year. Championship teams are built with pitching and defense, especially defense up the middle. Offense puts you in a position to get into post-season, but you need alot more than just offense to win a championship. Just ask the Yankees.
  25. Cub, defense is important in all positions.. but it's not the number one priority at 1B, 3B, LF and RF. Offense is the number one thing scouts are looking for in the corner positions. Defense is the number one thing scouts are looking for at C, 2B, SS and CF. If you get solid defense from the corners or solid offense from the middle, you got a special player. As far as your enlightning comment about "the days of all glove, no get on base middle infielders are pretty much over", you get a gold star.. in other "enlightning" news, the sun rose from the east today... Theriot didn't do anything this year to lose his job at short unless the Cubs get a better player via a trade or free agency, which probably won't happen until after the sale is completed. As far as Cedeno is concerned, he is in the same boat as Felix Pie. Until they do something offensively at the major league level (and not in the hitter friendly Pacific Coast League), they don't have a future in this game.
