  1. Oh gosh, this is gonna get me in trouble, but... Cubs fans are not the best in the world. We are great fans, no doubt. We are NOT the best in the world. How do you even quantify that? Because we sell out every game, even though we're horrible? Because we question each and every move that our front office and manager make? As much as I hate to say it, we aren't any better than Cardinals fans. We're no better than Red Sox fans. We're no better than Yankee fans. We're definitely up there, and among the best, but I think saying we're the best is very egocentric. Sorry for the semantical rant. We are great fans, no doubt. The best? How can you say?
  2. From CBS.Sportline: The Reds acquired veteran OF Todd Hollandsworth in exchange for a player to be named later or cash. To make room for Hollandsworth on the 40-man roster, LHP Brandon Claussen was transfered to the 60-day DL. The necessary move on the active roster will be made when Hollandsworth joins the Reds. Could Mabry , Neifi, and a pitcher get us Brandon Phillips? That seems onpar with what the Reds are doing these days.
  3. Can who still play LF? Teixeira? He's a 1B. I don't recall him ever playing LF. Frankly, if a bat gets dealt from Texas, I see it being Blalock. I'd do Blalock and Diamond for ARam and Hill.
  4. So a sacrifice bunt will not count against a streak, but a sacrifice fly will. As it should be. A swing is a swing, and there is truly no way to concede that a player was swinging with the intention of flying out. A bunt is a very different story. It's all a question of proven intent.
  5. Why would we want to be jerks to the Red Sox? I can think of alot of teams I wouldn't mind screwing, but Boston isn't one of them. Especially not if we're risking ending up with Javy freakin Lopez. Are you kidding? Red Sox fans are worse than Yankee fans since 2004. Come on, RS... I love the Cubs, but Cubs fans are far worse than Red Sox fans. I don't know of a whinier fan base than the Cubs, and if we ever do win a World Series... I cannot imagine how obnoxious our fans would become. Heck, we're a laughingstock and still obnoxious.
  6. So, a third place finish this season without Lee for the majority, without Wood for the entirety, and without Prior for the majority is on the wrong track? Come on, I hate Dusty too, but some of these comments are ludicrous. We could finish 3rd, despite having 2 *virtual* rookies in the lineup and Marmol, Hill, Rusch, and Sean Marshall in our rotation at any given time. That is hardly the "wrong direction". No, I don't want Dusty extended. No, I don't like our current 25 man roster. No, I don't think Hendry is a competent GM. However, this could be much worse than it is.

  8. Omar Vizquel is Izturis's #1 comp in PECOTA, with a score of 53, which means at his age, he looks a lot like Vizquel did at the same age. Izturis's #2 comp is Cristian Guzman, though, with the same score of 53. I hope he progresses like Vizquel in the near future, but I think it's more likely we see the second coming of Cristian Guzman. I wonder how that would compare with Ozzie Smith? Izturis has comparable (mostly better) numbers to (than) Ozzie over his first six seasons. Aside from stolen bases, Izturis stacks up well with one of the greats at SS. Cesar's career 69 OPS+ is considerably worse than Ozzie's 87. AHEM... I said FIRST SIX YEARS. You cannot compare a career to a player who hasn't entered their prime yet.... that's not even close to fair. FIRST SIX YEARS... Izturis does compare.

  10. Does NOT fall through? It hink you meant DOES fall through, correct?
  11. He's already approved a trade to the Mets... and last time I checked, they are on the East Coast. link? seriously. i know when he was a free agent he said he didn't like new york and he didn't like the american league. i have yet to see an article where he approved a trade to the mets. everything i've seen says that as much as he likes to play golf with glavine, he doesn't like it enough to do it in new york. From cbs.sportsline: "According to the Chicago Tribune, Greg Maddux told the Cubs he would waive his no-trade clause if he can be moved to a contender. Maddux also said he would be willing to be traded to the New York Mets, a team that was once believed to be off limits."
  12. Why? Crisp is younger, is good for a better OBP and OPS than Pierre, and has a better arm in center field. IF the ARam rumors are true, package Pierre with him and get back more. I think ARam and Pierre to Anaheim would net a nice package. All Pierre needs to do is throw to the cut-off man. Please tell me that was a joke. He's got a horrendous arm in center field, and runners take advantage of it frequently. Very limited perspective to say that all he has to do is hit the cutoff man. When you catch the ball 30 feet behind 2nd base and runners still score on you, your arm hurts the team.
  13. Boston is saying they'd deal him for a 5th starter, that's how. I don't really know what else you're looking for in a response. Not saying it makes a ton of sense, just saying that Boston has made Coco available for a 5th starter, according to the Boston Herald.

  16. This from cbs.sportsline: "Because Boston is not willing to give up its young pitchers, the team has made Coco Crisp and Trot Nixon available in order to find a fifth starter, says the Boston Herald." Coco for Maddux, anyone?
  17. I'm not sure if this was pure speculation on the part of Turner South broadcasters, but they talked last night about Giles being *possibly* headed to San Diego in exchange for some bullpen help, which doesn't make a ton of sense to me on the Padres end. Today's AJC printed an interview in which Giles says that he expects to be moved. Betemit will become the every day 2B. If I get a link or more info, I will post it.
  18. I don't think they would. Jacobs is relatively young, cheap, and productive at first base (Loney's position). As for Mathis, Willingham might be playing LF now, but he can catch. Olivio is doing a fine job behind the plate for them, too. Both are inexpensive. I highly doubt Florida would trade Cabrera without getting at least one top pitching prospect back as part of the deal. Then throw them a pitching prospect and keep Loney for a deal elsewhere. He's highly tradeable, imo. And they'd take Mathis in a heartbeat. Willingham is not an every day MLB catcher.
  19. This is also linked in the Walker gone in 48 hours thread. Merge if you need to.
  20. The Indians have traded Ben Broussard to Seattle for Shin-Soo Choo and a PTBNL. http://cleveland.indians.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20060726&content_id=1576695&vkey=news_cle&fext=.jsp&c_id=cle
  21. I want Loney, Laroche, AND Ethier for Maddux and ARam. Or, as I said in antoher thread, ARam to the Angels for Mathis and Kendrick. Turn Mathis around with Pie and Hill/Guzman to Florida for Cabrera. I could live with an infield of Lee, Kendrick, Cedeno, and Cabrera in 2007. Why Loney? He has great numbers at Las Vegas, but he would never play with Derrek Lee being the starting first baseman. Unless you want to use him in the outfield or were planning to trade him immediately. Trading chip/insurance policy. Think Florida would take Loney, Laroche, and Mathis for Cabrera? I do, and we'd keep Pie and all our pitching.
  22. Colon left today's game after 1 inning with an injury so Maddux might help as well. ARam and Cedeno for Wood, Mathis and Kendrick. Maddux to the other LA for Laroche. Laroche, Mathis, and EPatt for Cabrera. Lee/Kendrick/Wood/Cabrera infield in 2007? I could live with that.

  24. ARam for Mathis and Kendrick. Mathis, Pie, and Hill/Guzman for Miggy Cabrera. Done.
  25. Who? Lee or Theriot? Because both will get it.
