  1. Interesting that this 'leak' of a potential investigation comes out the day March Madness kicks into full gear. I hope Selig seeks an independing investigator to follow through on the steroids issue. His continual brushing under the rug attitude has taken a toll on baseball. If they do decide to investigate it needs to begin quicky in hopes of circumventing the Ruth record.
  2. It says alot when stories contemplating the future of perhaps the best pitcher in the past 5 decades go unread. Same story different year ............what high drama.
  3. I could pitch over 200 innings. That doesn't mean the Cubs need me. If true, they could definitely use your services. :D No one is saying Weaver is an ace, or even a top of the rotation guy, but he is a decent pitcher who will make most of his starts (he's had 30 or more starts in 4 of his 7 seasons with two other seasons of 29 and 24 starts). Plus, he will pitch into the 7th inning, in most of his games, which is a bonus for resting the bullpen. A team should be able to sign him to a one year deal (with a club option for a second year) without spending too much. Sign him up, a solid innings eater who can help to strengthen staff and if all goes south by the All-Star break.....you have a decent arm to trade to a contender for some quality prospects.
  4. Miggy's demands came shortly after Furcal signed with the Dodgers. I wonder if the two are at all related. Tejada sees what the Dodgers are willing to pay Furcal and begins to wonder if he is being fairly compensated. He may be lookin for a trade/extension more than he is looking to be on a winner. Just a thought
  5. But a difference of 1 million dollars between the first season at 5 and the 1 yr deal you use as an example is fairly inconsequential within a $100m payroll. Your point is that you would be glad his contract is off the books after one year, so don't the years actually bother you more than the money? Someone please tell me the third year is a club option year......w/1 million buyout.
  6. A Panic signing if there ever was one. Hendry must be feeling some heat to win this year at all costs..........even if it jeopardizes the future. He may look at it as "if i don't win now.........there is no 'next year'" Jacques Jones for 3 years..............wow.
  7. Horrid. Is is really any worse than Houston's lineup from last year. Pitching and D. Its not the ideal option, but it very well could be the best option available. Sign Milwood and find a better option ito add offense to lineup f need be as the season progresses. Signing one of the availabel RF to a multiyear deal is obsurd.
  8. Losing Novoa is a deal breaker for me.
  9. Not sure if its posturing or not, but Daniels made it sound like Wilkerson is going to be a Ranger this next season. They have no plans on moving him. Hopefully that will change if a few other free agent arms give him the Heisman.
  10. Bradley is a high risk/high reward acquisition. Beane due to budget constraints is willing out of necessity to make such a deal. Hendry and a number of GM's who most would agree are more skilled then Hendry took a pass on Bradley.........for good reason. The fact that the remaining options are fairly poor, is only a further indication of how unattractive the additional baggage Bradley carries is to a potential suitor.
  11. Or it could be an indication of how little MLB GM's value the addition of Bradley to their team. The mid-level prospect the Dodger's received was probably pretty close to the best offer they saw from any team. Place Bradley's stats, talent and age on any other outfielder and they would offer a much higher return. When considering the baggage Bradley brings along...........the value plummets. I'm glad Hendry stayed away.
  12. Wouldn't bother me one bit if it did. Give Patterson a few more months to prove himself. If its a repeat of last years performance.........we have plenty of $ to pick up a capable RF around trading deadline time. His value is at an all-time low, why not hang on to see if he can rebound.
  13. I'm just nervous about being in a tight spot as far as SP is concerned. EDIT: I'm not a copycat.. Salazar beat me to it :) Great minds think alike :D
  14. I'm all for going after Shawn Green. As for Bradley there is a reason no one has picked him up. Cubs may need to be cautious though with Wood's injury after sending Mitre to Fla for Pierre. The Cubs starting five could be Z, Prior, Maddux, Williams and Rusch. There have been several reports that Wood may not be ready come opening day. Trading Williams away ...............means Koronka. I would only make the above trade if the leftover payroll goes towards an inning eating starter. Can't imagine why Arizona would be trading Chad Tracy anytime soon. Cheap, young and talented..........probably not trying to move him.
  15. Cubs may not be to far of a long shot to land Tejada. Would imagine the O's would be looking for a younger cheaper replacement (Cedeno), a top prospect Pie, Hill or Guzman and a starting pitcher and/or bullpen help. Would a Pie, Cedeno, Williams and Wellmeyer be too much to give up to bring Tejada to Chicago.
  16. I've always been a patterson apologist so I will go as far to say......... I would rather see Millwood and Patterson (in RF) Then Rusch and " " (insert Bradley, Wilson, Encarncion) Pitching and D = Wins
  17. Rangers are in need of pitching, pitching and some more pitching. I'm quite surprised they traded Soriano for another position player (two at that). I wouldn't be at all surprised if this trade is followed up with another one. Hoping its Wilkerson, but Mench is probably more likely headed somewhere. The last thing the rangers needed was more offensive production.
  18. About time......... Prediciton: Cards pick him up for 2nd and he bats .331 next year.
  19. I could see Nomar landing in Atlanta. Would buy them another year for Betemit to develop.
  20. How about looking at Arizona to see what they would need to pry Vasquez and Green away. Perhaps a package starting with Williams, Hairston, Mitre and Wellmeyer. Which would also help free up some room on the 40 man roster. We can land a run-producing left-hand bat along with a No.2 inning eater. Next, sign Nomar to another a one-year incentive laden deal. Nomar is sound insurance for the off-chance Ronny had a fluke season last year and the inevitable Ramirez/Walker injuries. Walker Nomar Lee Green Ramirez Barrett Murton Patterson Prior Zambrano Vasquez Maddux Wood/Rusch
  21. Gut feeling: Not getting Furcal becomes a blessing in disguise. Wouldn't surprise me if you are right. A cheap an effective Cedeno for the next few years could be huge as far as the budget is concerned. However this thin free agent market doesn't really offer any other attractive opportunities for improvement. Money to spend, but not much to buy.
  22. Buckle up.........we may be in store for a rough off-season.
  23. Mentioned on MLBTraderumors.com Nixon/Mench platoon could be workable. Fill free to delete or merge away............
  24. If Furcal opts out on Chicago, does Nomar enter into Hendry's Plan B options? I know Lugo has been mentioned quite often here, but I would just assume see Ronnie instead of Lugo.
