  1. The 0-13 start in 97' left me feeling much like I feel this morning. Still it was a fun team to watch............this years version is just killing me.
  2. "Derrick Lee - Was our top free agency signing " Time for Regime Change
  3. How about cutting it back to 60% and instead of trading for position players.....sign a few decent ones through Free Agency.
  4. Synopsis.....No one to blame, but lady luck. They have made all the right moves and have the correct philosophy, but lack of execution, poor timing and bad luck are too blame. No accountability for lack of execution
  5. Does team need to change philosophy? Trying to get Murton to take more pitches. Team is pressing.....need to be more patient Organizational types understand importance of going deep in the count
  6. MacPhail "It was a bad week"
  7. Although he is being projected to go earlier in the draft... Cubs scouts were in attendance at Clayton Kershaw's last game. I coach football and basketball in the same district and the baseball coaches can't stop talking about this impressive young man. Not only one heck of pitcher, but also a solid kid. This is the same high school that produced Chris Young of the Padres. 15 up and 15ks in last outing. Would imagine he made added an extra mil to his signing bonus that evening. His stock has been steadily moving upward.
  8. Lee even at a 100% isn't enough to halt the sinking of this ship.
  9. Pursuing Furcal with complete blindness. Resulted ---> In losing Nomar and overpaying for Pierre. Both Nomar's and Corey's numbers would look great on this team. This would only have been made worse if we would have actually landed Furcal.
  10. Management need to go out on a limb and take a few risks. Its like their creedo is "play not to lose" instead of "playing to win" Kenny Williams of the Sox as made a number of risky moves, and albeit some have blown up in his face. However, a few have worked out wonderfully. The whole Nomar debacle to me is a classic example. Why we wouldn't take a risk and pay him, but instead lock up Neifi and Rusch is one I can't figure out.
  11. The absence of Lee and now perhaps Aram sure makes the loss of Nomar less appealing. For the money we spent on Neifi and Glen-done we could have had one nice stick. I often feel the best thing that could happen to your major leaque career is to be traded from the Cubs. Go Marshall!
  12. "Wait Til Next Year" by Mother's Day Usually its Memorial Day..............
  13. Ward is with the Nationals. I wouldn't be surprised if Hendry has contacted Bowden about his availability.
  14. This is painful to listen too. "May the worst team lose!"
  15. I would the would be much more likely to move Ward.
  16. Just got home to catch the game. Look like Marshall is pitching a gem. This will be good for a confidence boost. Go Cubs!
  17. There is the possibility they are showcasing Guzman to some potential trading partners. Its possible some suitors want to seem him face major leaque talent in a stadium full of fans to get a better read of his make-up. Makes sense to send Jerome down so he can get another start when his turn comes up, since we will be going to 4-man in the near future. No sense jerking him around from starter to pen.
  18. Pierre CF Cedeno SS Murton LF Ramirez 3B Walker 1B Jones RF Barrett C Hairston 2B Pitcher
  19. Yep. I'm one injury away from insanity. Knowing the cubs, it'll probably be Pierre too. About 2 weeks after he signs an extension.
  20. Now think about it, is that how Derrek would want you to react? What if Aramis or Jerome feels the same way? I'm pretty sure he'd say that no individual is bigger than the team, that we've all got a job to do but no one's job is to sit around and feel sorry for Derrek Lee. Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?
  21. I could see the Cubs keeping Walker and Mabry at first and looking to add some pop at 2nd with a Soriano..... Not in favor of the idea, but that could be another possible direction. Right now I'm a Ramirez back spasm from needing therapy.
  22. It helps when not many of them get on base to begin with. but barrett's game calling is so atrocious Listening on the radio. Has Mad dog been shaking Barrett off all night?
  23. I wonder if one more Wood or Prior setback would make Jim and Dusty consider moving Dempster to the rotation. Not ideal, but with Z, Maddux and 3 big question marks............it would be a desperate solution to a increasingly desperate situation.
