  1. I would imagine Arizona would be reluctant to let a young talent like Carlos to go. Only way I see that happening is if they tag him on to a huge unproductive contract to make it more appealing. Carlos is a better option, but Green is probably a more realistic one.
  2. If http://www.hardballdollars.com is correct he is due 7.67 mil each of the next two years. Not ideal, but he can also cover center and 1st base in the event of an injury and would buy the Cubs sometime until the free agent or trade market provides a better option.
  3. Arizona has a bit of a log jam at the corner outfield spots with Gonzalez, Tracy and Green. He would provide a decent fielding left hand bat with more speed, OBP and Slugging then Burnitz was providing. With Arizona needing to move Vasquez they may be looking for a few arms........ He could be a possible Hendry target. Wonder what it would take to get it done. Not sure if they are planning on dumping salary or not. Would he be a better option than Wilson, Jones or a Burnitz-redux.
  4. The 2005 version wore me out too. Bradley has wore out his welcome with Cleveland and the Dodgers............can't imagine why Chicago would be any different
  5. 1st topic ever posted so give me the benefit of the doubt.......... I've been following this team for over 25 years plus........they have always been the "lovable losers" and as far as I am concerned when they win it all they better be "lovable" too. I have no interest whatsoever in the Cubs adding his bat and glove. Sure his stats would look nice in our lineup, but I have waited too long and cheered too hard for this less then stellar citizen to wear Cubbie blue when we win the title. My two cents.
  6. I for one have never heard any mention of steroids in the case of Jim Thome.I I remember reading on mulitple occasions how his career numbers have been lost some notoriety due to the '"assumed" steroid enhanced numbers of several of his contemporaries. How one goes about clearing him and not others.......is a topic for another thread.
  7. Two thoughts, if this goes through. Sox will be needing a centerfielder.........Cubs may end up bidding against the Soxs for Pierres services. Lofton back in Cubbie blue? Phillies have a surplus of outfielders, who and where are they going to move one of them?
  8. Although Hendry's honesty regaring Nomar is refreshing, it is not the best way to handle negoitations with Furcal's agent. With the Mets pursuing Wagner and a 1st baseman, the only real suitors for Furcal are the Braves and Cubs. The Cubs have the upperhand as long as they offer more than the Braves are willing to go. Now that the Plan B.. Nomar is off the table, Furcal's agent can swing the position of power back in his favor. The Cubs must have Furcal.......period.
  9. I also much prefer Nomar over an overpriced Furcal, but from the impression i get from the media reports and these boards it is beginning to sound more and more like Furcal is in and Nomar is out. Either way.....Jim needs to move soon after Nov. 15th on this because it will have a large bearing on how the rest of the roster shakes out both in personnel needed and resources available.
  10. I for one hope Jim moves quickly on Furcal. Once Nomar is off the market and the Cubs have a gaping hole at SS......Furcal's price could skyrocket. Wish there was some reasonable way to add Furcal without losing Nomar's bat in the process.
  11. He does play the best RF ever according to Sutcliffe. Burnitz has to be used right to be effective and Baker well..... I think Brenly said he played the best right field in Wrigley he's seen in years. But the guy before Burnie.......oh well forget it. Apparently Brenly never saw Dawson play at Wrigley
  12. I'd be fine with it. Its a sellers market and the few available players appear over-priced. No sense in making a move......to simply make a move. Lets add Nomar, Williamson and Wood on Friday and see where that takes us.
  13. I would like to see Dunn in Cubbie blue, but if not the Cubs the Reds need to move him somewhere else. If I'm a Reds fan, I would be very disappointed to not see one of my four outfielders traded in this 'sellers' market. Due to the number teams in play for the wild card the O'Brien can virtually create bidding war for Kearns, Dunn or Pena between a number of teams. If Red management doesn't take advantage of this opportunity.......they should stay where they belong........the only 6th place team in baseball.
  14. Here in Texas people will be more than happy to chip in and pay for Chan Ho's airfare to San Diego... Not sure why San Diego is making this move....Park's numbers are horrible and his contract is ridiculous. Perhaps the worst in baseball. One would think Nevin would fetch a bit more.
