  1. If we landed a big bat in a trade for Prior, I think we would be going the opposite direction. An upgrade of Tejada over Cedeno wouldn't outweigh the loss of Prior in our rotation.
  2. Well, that is definitely something I hadn't thought of. I think most Cub's fans are just tired of hearing his name associated with "injury problems".
  3. That is your opinion. yes it is It has also been a longstanding opinion of mine that Peter Gammons is one of the dumbest analysts in baseball.....
  4. I agree that we overvalue some of our players for sure.....but, Prior by no means is overvalued.
  5. Gammons just said that he wouldn't make the Tejada for Prior deal because Prior is an injury risk. They also mentioned (Gammy + Phillips) on how great Bedyard (sp) is. Isn't he older than Prior? I heard the same thing. It is just like I wrote on page whatever. We see Prior differently than 99% of the baseball world. It doen't mean anyone is right or wrong in their view. Both Gammons and Phillips, mentioned that Bedard could be a # 1 or #2 starter down the road. What they were painfully ignorant on were the additional palyers that were being moved. I don't really think either of them know anything more than we do. Actually, I think it DOES mean something is wrong with their view, a pitcher who received one legitimate injury over a three year period is by no means whatsoever injury prone. The line drive off his arm in no way factors in to his injured past. Gammons is an idiot, and Byrnes will never be a #1 or #2 starter. He had a CAREER year last year, that resulted in a 6-8 record, 4.00 era and 1.38 whip.
  6. Prior/Pie for Tejada/Bedard is the dumbest trade idea I've ever heard of. We need to be hanging onto Prior - let the O's keep Tejada. I could care less if Tejada came to the Cubs.....he'd be nice to have, but Id take Prior over Tejada anyday of the week.
  7. I don't understand why JH wants to dump Walker so badly.....if we landed Tejada, then I understand. Aside from that happening, what is his reasoning?
  8. Just to clear the record in regards to Prior giving below average production last year..... He got drilled with a line drive that injured him considerably, yet still managed to throw up these #'s.... ERA 3.67 (league average 4.29 for SP) K 188 (league average 47 for SP) whip 1.21 (league average 1.37 for SP) Wins 11 (league average 4 for SP)
  9. I'm trying really hard to understand this signing.... Is Jones going to give us 5+ million a year worth of production? I don't think he'll give us anything even close to Burnitz #'s.... How are we possibly going to be able to contend with Jones in RF? We just paid 5+ million a year for production we could've gotten off our bench and thrown in RF.
  10. This is the worst signing Hendry has made in his venture with the Cubs, and it couldn't be more pathetic. Hat's off, Jimbo! Way to go out and snag a big bat for RF!!! Cause' it's not like Patterson couldn't put those numbers up for us this year and save us 16mil!!
  11. No. high era and whip seldom k's Meche needs to stay in the AL....
  12. my thoughts exactly.....If we're stuck with either Jones or Wilson - which essentially means we're writing off the '06 season, Id rather send Patterson to the OF every day. Not to mention that we're writing off the season, and we only spent a small portion of our offseason money!!
  13. Here's the scouting report on Jones: "Jones has tremendous bat speed that can drive a fastball a long way. In late 2003 and last spring, he looked like he was increasing his patience and selectivity at the plate, but often looked overeager during the summer. When he slumps, Jones tends to swing at virtually anything near the dish early in the count. He will get himself in a hole and his at-bats will last a matter of seconds. As his salary increases, he will need to improve in these areas to remain an everyday player for a good team. Greater patience would generate a better on-base percentage, as well as better power numbers, because he'd be swinging at better pitches to hit" Doesn't that sound like somebody we already have and are trying to get rid of? And the player we already have is considerably younger than Jones with more upside..... So, please tell me, WHY WHY WHY? And furthermore, why bring a player with that kinda scouting report to Dusty to encourage free swinging and the neglect of patience at the plate?
  14. I'm sorry, I just puked all over myself........
  15. Jim Hendry is the world's biggest idiot if he signs Jock Strap Jones - he has no place on our team.....I'd rather see Hairston or Patterson out in RF than Jones. And why would you not bring Burnitz back and then go sign Jones?   Eyre, Howry, Pierre, and Jock Strap is the most pathetic offseason I could have ever dreamed of...... 0h yeah, let's not forget about the crazy $ thrown at Neifi and Glendon either.....
  16. I agree with some of these other posts.....Id much rather see Pie rushed to the majors or Patterson in RF than offer Jock Strap a 3 year deal. I'm crossing my fingers we dont get that turd.
  17. I don't understand the reasoning behind the accusations that Prior has injury problems.... Wood, on the other hand, is a different story....
  18. Buster Olney mentioned this earlier today, "Interesting that you say that, because I had a conversation recently with a person in baseball about Prior's mechanics, and whether he might have elbow trouble throughout his career -- the fact that he leads with his elbow, puts all kind of stress on that joint, makes you wonder if the Cubs will get the kind of production they're banking on from him during his career. I'm not advocating a deal -- I'd just love to know what the Cubs execs are saying privately, behind closed doors, about what Prior will give them." I thought Prior's mechanics were the best around.....? :?
  19. If they're looking for an all-star caliber player in return, good luck.....
  20. MLB.com 3 years / 20 million for Jock Strap? WOW!! Please Hendry, don't get involved in that catastrophe.....
  21. I had a feeling Vazquez was going to the Southside when this picture appeared about a week ago.... http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/images/view?back=http%3A%2F%2Fimages.search.yahoo.com%2Fsearch%2Fimages%3Fei%3DUTF-8%26fr%3Dsfp%26p%3Dguillen%2Bvazquez&w=410&h=277&imgurl=us.news2.yimg.com%2Fus.yimg.com%2Fp%2Fap%2F20051203%2Fcapt.xbl10312032233.puerto_rico_celebrity_golf_xbl103.jpg&rurl=http%3A%2F%2Fnews.yahoo.com%2Fnews%3Ftmpl%3Dstory%26u%3D%2F051203%2F483%2Fxbl10312032233&size=20.6kB&name=capt.xbl10312032233.puerto_rico_celebrity_golf_xbl103.jpg&p=guillen+vazquez&type=jpeg&no=1&tt=5&ei=UTF-8&src=p
  22. Jock strap Jones isn't gonna help us out at all.....I take that back, he's gonna help by adding to the suck factor.
  23. I personally think it was a good move for the Cardinals not to resign him. His velocity was way down and he started to come apart at the end of the year. Not saying he won't do good but in my opinion it's very risky for that many years and money. Morris comes apart at the end of every year.....he's had dead arm issues for quite some time. I think it was a good move not to resign him....on the flipside, they lose the option of Marquis as trade bait, and they have multiple holes that need to be addressed, and the free agent market this year isnt/hasnt helped them out.
  24. My avatar is the epitome of the farthest end of the spectrum from being soft..... and my desktop background is graced with a nice little picture of him with Ventura in a choke hold and his right fist clinched and headed to Ventura's face. :) ...ya' gotta respect anybody who beats the tar outta a white sox player!
  25. Id rather take my chances on nomar's groin issues than have a starting outfield with Jones, Encarnacion, or Patterson in it.....and if Walker gets dealt.....then Id rather see Nomar take that spot and play the odds....at least then Neifi could back him up and give him some time off. Don't forget Cedeno to because Tejada would be at Short. =P~ :D Don't get me wrong, I would love nothing more than to see Tejada at SS. But I really dont think we've got a chance, and I don't want to get really excited until I at least hear a statement from Hendry saying that he's pursuing it.
