  1. http://www.rpiratings.com/homecourtrec.php Only 4 B1G teams in the Top 25 for home court winning percentage. I'm not defending B1G officiating, I'm just saying that's the way Men's D1 College Basketball works. Lol, Gonzaga is way more talented than the rest of their league every year, Kentucky is more talented than everyone now, Memphis great team in a bad conference, and Kansas is always as good as anyone. So yeah not really suprised to see them at the top. I just think it's funny that some of the big ten teams are on there even while having some awful teams during that era.
  2. What is he supposed to say Smack? After his first game in the big ten go off about how horrible the officiating is? He's not some boob who spent two decades as an assistant coach. He's right about the dribble penetration though it's been killing us for weeks now. He didn't have to call out Byrd by name and praise him. Plus, gflore threw out the Weber quote like he's an idiot for praising Byrd. I was just pointing out your current coach says the same thing. Byrd got a lot of praise from the media last night. I thought Byrd played like crap, he stuck a couple of threes but you should if you shoot as many as he does. I won't praise him for that rebound at the end, he broke three rules while doing it. I would trade our DJ for him though, I don't get how anyone can think our DJ is value added. Don't know if I'd take either of them but, I do agree, the Illini' DJ sucks big time. Isn't he some god awful 9-50 in last 5 or so games? I can't believe he plays as much as he does. I wish Bertrand started over him. I know Joe can't guard a chair, but at least he can score. D.J. is struggling with both.
  3. This, I know I am using last nights game here still, but with two little kids I dont get to watch very many games anymore. But there were 5 call last night that should get someone in trouble. 1. That foul on Brandon paul shooting the three. There isn't even close to contact. Horrible call. 2. The play with around 10 minutes left where Tyler Griffey shot fakes and D.J. Byrd lands on him. That has to be a call, either it is a defensive foul or a player control on griffey. That's how people get hurt, you cannot not call a foul on that. 3. At one point in the second half we are pressing and have a purdue Johnson trapped in the backcourt against the sideline. Ted Valentine whistels for a time out. Painter says he didn't signal for one. So it becomes a sideout. What? That cannot happen. There was going to be either a forced pass or a ten second call happening, but instead the referees broke the press for Purdue. 4. In the second half one of your Johnson's drove and threw the ball out of bounds, on replay Brandon hit it then the Johnson kid hit it again trying to guide it to a Purdue player no one touched the ball. Purdue ball. It literally touched no one and really wasn't even close to touching anyone. 5. The last sequence of factor. As Tim pointed out Byrd fouled, traveled, and was rewarded a timeout. At that point momentum had swung and we were going to get a shot to win the game. I mean does anyone thing our chuckers wouldnt have shot a three at that point? All of these were horrible miss calls. The type that make me hate following a big ten team. Let the better team win ffs, regardless of where the game is at.

  5. I certainly wouldn't disagree with that being Purdue's perception. Painter runs a defense first program that isn't flashy offensively. Especially without Moore, Johnson and Hummel. I wouldn't be watching them like I do if I wasn't a big fan. I think we've got some guys on the way that will get us back to a more offense oriented team, but not right now. Hammons is the only player on the roster right now that is likely to play in the NBA. The Illinois people will laugh at me but Jay Simpson might have that upside too. Painter said Simpson is the most talented player on the roster and he's had Hummel, Johnson, and Landry so he knows a talented forward. Bill self coached deron Williams and said last year that Thomas Robinson was the best player he ever coached. That's called coach speak.

  7. How many jump shots did he take? I only remember him driving to the rim two times, once he had an easy layup and once he got called for a charge. 7 of his 10 shots were from 3. edit: plus the one free throw he did shoot was a terrible foul call. he kicked his leg out at Terone tryign to draw contact and didn't even connect but they called a foul on Terone. There were several times he got to the lane and was crushed. At least 4 times, that play at the end still pisses me off the most, Byrd committed two and probably more infractions, he hooked and pushed off McLaurin and he traveled with the ball while attempting to call time out. Yeah it's frustrating, even our team in 05 who beat everyone's brains in had to come from behind and then when they got the lead Pudue couldn't foul us at the end to shoot free throws because they had one team foul. You know, cause that can happen in a major college game. Playing defense so well you don't foul but one time in 19 minutes. Boiler up!

There were several times he got to the lane and was crushed. There were several times Terone was crushed with no call too. The first press in the second half your guy, a Johnson I'm sure, fouls Paul. Knocks the ball loose, then tackles him to the floor. Play on.

  10. In the five games before the purdue game Brandon Paul was 36 for 47 from the free throw line. Last night he was 1 for 1. While be knocked to the floor several times. Just good clean defense.
  11. I've seen these complaints for games in Champaign though... Gee where is the link to purdue when that was happening? Oh yes the long time assistant that was coaching us.
  12. Greatest European league player ever? Or third best player on his loaded college team that barely made a second weekend?
  13. Because the big ten is ok with a physical style of play that doesn't fly outside of the conference. A one point last night with about 10 to go Tyler griffey drove, pump faked, got DJ Byrd to jump and land on him. No call was made so we reset the offense. In no way can that happen, thats not good aggressive defense. Thats a mugging. How can you not think there isn't a little something to this when you guys and Wisconsin, the two best defensive big ten teams every year, never do as well as you should once the tournament starts? I mean you guys had a great team for three straight years and never really sniffed a final four. Robbie Hummel blew out his knee two years in a row. The 'Baby Boiler's only played in two NCAA Tournaments together, as Freshmen (second round) and Sophomores (Sweet 16). Their third year they won the B1G and were ranked #3 in the nation when Hummel blew his knee out with three games left in the regular season. If we had Moore, Johnson, and Hummel all healthy as Juniors/Seniors in the tournament... Man, that's a really depressing thing to think about. You still had more than enough talent left to make a deep run, it sucks he got hurt but that's clearly not the only issue that purdue has had in the tournament. Hummel did so much for those teams though. Sure, Moore and Johnson had talent for miles, but it was a totally different team without Hummel. Do you realize that in 2010 in the Sweet 16 6'3 Chris Kramer was guarding 6'8 Kyle Singler? After Hummel went down that year, there was a huge size mismatch after Hummel went down, there was just no way of over coming that. 2011 had Byrd filling in for Hummel and we all know that Byrd is a fraction of the talent that Hummel was. I digress, you are telling me why Purdue gets beat in the tournament. I also wanted to know why Purdue doesn't get whistled for fouls, but Illinois gets called for touch fouls. Why is that? That is the away factor, I can live with that. If and it's a big if, you don't let purdue play football at home. Last night the second half was crazy. Your guys grabbed and held. That's not good defense, it's fouling. Other conferences call that crap regardless of venue, that's why their scores aren't laughable.

  16. Aaron Craft is in the discussion too. This, and what the helll has happened to his shot recently?
  17. Previous to this year we have sucked for about 5 years. Save one year where we were ok. It's been awful.
  18. Well yeah, but Purdue was fouling and not getting called. There weren't bad calls against Illinois for the most part, just a lack of fouls against Purdue that should have been called. Now, that doesn't excuse a lot of the dumb things Illinois did, like failing to go to the hole when they couldn't hit a jumper to save their lives. You aren't gonna convince him. He's grown up thinking that's how basketballis supposed to be played. There's a reason purdue doesn't usually do very well in the tournament. That gets called for fouls outside of the big ten. I grew up in Indiana, like that coach of yours. Ok, great? You grew up a fan of that system and it works in the big ten. Look at Wisconsin, but also look at how they generally struggle to make deep tourney runs. Kind of like how you guys do. But please instead of taking this serious tell me how we have sucked recently. As if I don't know this.

  20. Illinois is going to have an extremely tough time in the Big 10 if the refs let teams play this physical (read "foul constantly") against them. True, but when your offense is predicated on taking outside shots combined with no real inside threat, you reduce your chances of drawing fouls. Yeah, but again with our roster construction what choice do we reall have? The big thing is they have to call it even. You can't call us for touch fouls while allowing purdue to hold and grab every drive.
  21. Man I don't love this offense, but really don't know what else we can do with absolutely no post players to speak of.
  22. I'm shocked they didn't see intent there. Shocked.
  23. Do we have a strength and conditioning coach?
