  1. he's put on some serious muscle in the offseason. he might be lean, but he's strong enough to play straight up against tucker. plus he's taller than tucker, which should also account for something. Plus he has crazy length, his arms are ridiculous. Should be a good match-up. If Randle can avoid cheap fouls I really like our chances. Hopefully Rich McBride keeps playing like he did against Purdue so Dee doesn't have to try to do everything.
  2. Stop listening to B&B before you form your Alford opinions. If you dislike him, it should be solely for the reason that he is a bad coach. I dislike him because he defended Pierre Pierce and even went so far as to say he was the victim in his first sexuall assualt charge. The man was the national president of the FCA when he was in college, yet he sided with a rapist over a real victim. The fact that he has destroyed Iowa's program I like hjim for. I realize you guys are good this year, but after this year you guys will be really horrible. Find me where he said Pierre was the vicitim. Not once did that take place. He also never sided with Pierre over the victim. I also doubt that you know what actually took place, but it surely wasn't rape. There are a few reasons why the female and her family were so willing to settle so that the details didn't go public. Also how can you say we're good this year but will be "really horrible" afterward? You were on this board this summer saying that our lack of success the past few years wasn't Alford's fault, it was because we had no talent. So first of all how are we good without any talent this year and why will be worse if we aren't losing any talent? And who can forget your guarantee after the '03 football season that Iowa football would take a big step backwards because we were losing Gallery and Russell. Of course we improved by 2 games between the two years, but hey who cares. Yeah I admitted I was wrong about your football. They have however, regressed back to the middle of the Big Ten. Alford is a coach who hasn't had a alot of talent, but guess what everyone of those players he recruited. He has no one to blame but himelf for the lack of talent. After this years seniors leave you guys are really looking rough. Henderson and Haluska are good players, but the other guys don't show much at all. Alford in my opinion didn't learn how to build a program and that is his downfall, well that and he hasn't recruited his own state very well. Korver and Jacobson come to mind, how did he lose them to mid majors? How about me disliking him because last year he said he had the book on how to beat Illinois, even though his team never did. How about the fact he fought to have the tickets to the illinois game this year made unavailable until a week before the game. Way to cost your school a ton of money in lost ticket sales because you are embarrased that more of our fans would rather travel to watch us play than show up at home to cheer on the hawkeyes. How about when he called his team the big ten champions when they won the tournament title. No Steve you weren't Big Ten champions. Regressed to the middle of the Big Ten? LOL, wow you're funny. We finish tied for 3rd one season (after losing 3 defensive lineman to the NFL and losing a couple of games that came down to the last play) and all of a sudden we've regressed to the middle of the Big Ten? So in the last four years we've tied for two championships and the lowest we've finished is tied for 3rd. You lack any objectivity. That would be like me saying Illinois basketball has regressed to the middle of the Big Ten if they finish 3rd in basketball this year, which is very possible. Seriously, put your dislike or hatred aside and look at it objectively. It's not that hard for an adult. I can do it very well when analyzing Illinois basketball. When you don't, you make yourself look ridiculous. Secondly I really don't care if you like Steve Alford. Many Iowa fans don't. But again you look ridiculous for changing your reasons after you were called out on lies in your first post. You had no clue on the facts and were telling blatant lies (Alford said Pierre was the victim, blatant lie) to support your opinion. Now you don't like him for all of these reasons? Again you failed to get the facts right. The tickets for the Illinois game were available long before the week before the game. And he didn't cost his school any money because the game was a sellout. But hey why let the facts get in the way of another one of your rants, right? Good Lord. all I know is what i have heard. I have heard that is exactly what Alford said, if it isn't than I was am wrong. You guys finished whta? 7-5 or 7-6? Yeah thats real elite. I have and will admit I was wrong about your football team and I really respoect your coach. The couple of times I met him he seemed like a real genuine guy. As for the tickets, all I know is every year i got to carver hawkeye with my dad and brother its a nice little tradition we have that we couldn't partake in this year because the iowa athletic department felt the need to withold the tickets. They also said on the espn telecast that there were about 2000 empty seats, but hey i guess that isn't a fact as I can't quote a link to it. Reguardless, if Alford didn't say that about Pierce I guess I dislike him a lot less. I still think he is a little overmatched when it comes to running a successful Big time college program and you would have been better served keeping Tom Davis.
  3. Eric Gordon, Brian Carlwell, Richard Smerau, Billy Cole, and Mike Tisdale are all four or five stars. We are reloading. If we can add either Dar Tucker or Derrek Rose we will be great again. Who's coming in next year? Is it just Carwell and Semrau? So far unless we add Leon Freeman. But I have heard that Leon might not qualify. We also add Trent Meachum a walkon who started as a freshmen at Dayton. We will probably regress some, but when Gordon's class comes in we should be pretty good again.

  7. i Doubt it. I think he's most likely UNC bound, maybe UI. Why give up a sure thing for a guy you have only a slim chance of landing?i think because of the numbers situation with schollys being gone at unc, that louisville will be the big competition for illinois on rose. Illinguy--Rose is a junior, right? Has he set a "commit date", or is he willing to let his recruitment go into his senior year? Yes he is a junior, he said he is breaking tradition for simeon players and will infact commit the summer before his senior year.

  9. Why, because they have 2 road losses to ranked opponents? No, although the Michigan State loss was pretty ugly. It's because they trailed to Penn State with under 50 seconds left in the game and Minnesota had several chances of beating them before the Hawkeyes won in triple OT at home. and because Steve Alford is your coach
  10. Robinson, Chlamers, and Rush are a prety solid three-headed monster. Chalmers in particular is a menace on both ends of the court. If there's one thing to say about this KU squad, they're never dull to watch. I've never seen a more bipolar team. Look great one -second, look completely inept five mnutes later. a 13 point lead with two-minutes left is still nerve-wracking. Still, I'm really starting to like them. And I'm looking forward to the rematches w/ KSU and MU. I've been telling some KU fans at work that this year kind of reminds me of Bill Self's first year at Illinois when he had a young team. They stunk for the first three and a half months of the season and finished last in the Big Ten, but won their last few regular season Big Ten games and as the bottom seed made it all the way to the Big Ten championship game only to get blown out by the eventual national champs Michigan State. I said all of that to say this, KU will be fine this year. I heard that Micah Downs left school because he missed his girlfriend back home. I know he wasn't getting a lot of playing time, but knowing Bill Self from Illinois I bet he wasn't doing anything in practice. That's really the only time you get in his dog house. Great point except Bill's first year Illinois he went to the elite eight. That was Kruger and the reason they were so bad is becaue Frank Williams, the pg, was prop48. The next year they lost in the sweet sixteen to national runner up florida, then lon left. Bill Self walked into a loaded cabinet at Illinois. Also Kyle Wilson says if Bill wants to recruit over you it is easy to get in his dog house.
  11. I was goofing around with my dad and brother yesterday before the wisky game started and we were all like, man I wouldn't want to be penn state playing wisky after there last game. Anyone who didn't see a 30 point blow out there was crazy or blind, or both.
  12. I kind of figured that, plus isn't he from Ohio. BUT, the only other team that I could see him playing for is the Bulls due to the whole Jordan thing :D. Yeah, he's from Akron, which is only like 40 minutes from Cleveland. If LeBron went anywhere, it would probably be New York.Jesus if they let him get away they might as well just contract the team. How could you still root for that team if LeBron walked away. Every time I would watch him play I would want to throw up. That said as a Bulls fan there is always room for you in Chi Town LeBron. :)
  13. I hope Rose wasn't banking too hard on winning.:  Touche. Yeah I guess you guys will have more money to spend now that you don't have to pay Micah's graduation present. Dude, no offense, but sometimes your hostility is very tiresome. Sorry, I was just joking. No worries. Besides, since when do we graduate our basketball players? Well we all have to now or else the NCAA will punish the schools. What a joke, at this point they should just quit the farce and start paying the kids.
  14. The Kevin Roberson game winning homerun call was pretty good. Harry was talking and dropped something. Roberson then hit a big homerun to win the game. Harry asked Steve what happened, Steve told him Roberson homered. Harry proceeded to go crazy. I miss Harry, but I miss the 2003 playoffs and the whole feeling I had for the Cubs then much more.

  17. I just watched the game (i've been working a ton and had it taped). How can you call that a clean block? Moody got hammered. Not that it mattered. I can't believe we gave that game away. Self cost us that one. You tell your kids explicitly, "Don't shoot until ten seconds are left in the clock." But were just jacking it up. Unbelievable. We should be undefeated in conference. Instead we're 2-2 with losses to our two biggest rivals. We've got our work cut out for us if we want to make the tourney now. self's not a great in-game coach. he'll do something with those recruits, though, provided that they stay for a couple years. and moody DID get hammered. you'd think a 3-4 time academic all-american could develop some type of consistent and repeatable free-throw shooting form. it's not that hard. Ok try and follow me with this. If Self keeps all of those kids there with Collins, I think he might be able to win it all. That said I don't see it happening. I think Rush goes pro after this year. But if he doesn't, he comes back at the 3. That pretty much assures that Downs is gone. But, Collins is his 1. Robinson will be a junior and will have to play. In a lot of ways Chalmers is his best player. All three of those guys are gonna play. So if Rush stays I guess Wright becomes his 5, if he can beat out the three MCDAAs KU has in Giles, Kaun, and Jackson. What a mess. Why did Bill recruit all of those kids at the same position in the same year? I will never be able to figure that out. First--Kaun, DJ, and Giles weren't McD's. As for a rotation next year. I'm not sure what Rush will do. 2 weeks ago, I thought he was gone. Now, I'm not sure. He's been real hit or miss. So he might stay, and if he does, there will still be plenty of room for Downs. We could have a 9-man rotation as follows. 1. Robinson/Collins 2. Chalmers 3. Rush/Downs 4. Jackson/Wright 5. Kaun/Giles If Rush goes, which is still the more likely scenario, this would be the rotation, w/ Wright playing 3/4: 1. Robinson/Collins 2. Chalmers 3. Downs/Wright 4. Jackson/Wright 5. Kaun/Giles Case, Morningstar, and Stewart would probably fight for the last spot. Either way, I don't see any scenario where Wright plays the 5, and I think we also have to expect Collins to be eased into the game. As for why Self recruits so many players, that's simple. One, many of the players he recruits can play multiple positions. (Collins, Chalmers, Robinson can all play 1 and 2. Downs, Rush, and Wright are not locked into any one position.) Two, recruiting isn't an exact science. Sometimes a guy flames out or transfers or goes pro or sucks. If you put all your eggs in that basket, you're screwed if he flops. If you have multiple guys who can fill in, you've covered yourself and your team better. It's simple recruiting, and most of the premier programs do it. NOT ANY MORE!!! Downs just left KU. http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascity/13700764.htm That is 7 in 2 and 1/2 years. I guess now Bill can go after Rose as he has another scholly open. I told ya three guys that good at one position in one class is just plain ignorant.

No doubt it is impressive, I just wonder why he would do it in the same year with the three small forwards. I realize that Rush was kind of a gift at the last moment. But, I think he would have been better served to get a real good 4 or 2. I know that many of your guys are capable of playing those spots, but none of them are ideal for the position. If that makes any sense. Rush is damn good. If we would have got him we would be in the top 3 teams easily this year. That said he needs a better mid range game and could work on it for a year in Lawerence without wearing out his welcome.

  21. Did anyone see Adam Haluska of Iowa state that even after yesterday's game that Iowa felt they were better than MSU. This is right after MSU beat them by 30 points. It maybe how you feel Adam, but that probably isn't the best time to say it.
  22. I know what you're saying that Illinois beat Georgetown, but please don't tell me you're one of those people that thinks Illinois is better than Duke this year. I have a friend that has been calling everyone he knows saying Duke should be ranked behind Illinois right now. hard to say who is better - I think Illinois could beat Duke when they play well. That is, Duke is far from great and is beatable (obviously). Illinois hasn't been too impressive lately but is good enough to be dangerous. I wouldn't argue they should be ranked ahead of Duke though. It's just my opinion, but I think that Illinois, like Louisville this year, is one of the most overrated teams around. They can be dangerous if they get hot, but Georgetown just showed that they have the same power. I haven't watched too many Illinois games this year, but from the few that I have seen, it looks like just a two man game with Brown and Augustine. And Iowa showed how to shut that down. I don't know if Florida has played a tough enough schedule to take over number one right now. And UConn and Nova have lost recently, so I don't see either of them making the jump. I think that Duke will hang on to the #1 ranking, but just barely. As of this week, they have every first place vote in the AP poll, and all but one in the coaches poll. You do know that Illinois beat that Georgetown team by 15 right? It's all about matchups IMO. The Princeton Offense worked against Duke. IMO that is because Duke cant defend. I am sick and tired of hearing about how Shelden Williams is so great on D. Killingsworth careered on him, the kid from NC State careered on him, then Green did the same. If he was so great on D he should be able to hold his own against these guys. Duke is almost more of a 1 man team than Illinois is. They just all stand around and watch JJ play.
  23. Yeah it is definately one of the teams weaknesses. That said we play defense pretty well and defense can keep you in any game and give you a shot.

  25. As another big ten fan it is fun this year during bball, the big 12 is horrible. But yeah during football it was rough and when Texas was as good as they were this year there isn't much you can say but agree. Yeah fun in terms of bragging rights right now I guess. But it would be awful to be stuck with all of that coverage of the Big 12, lack of coverage of the Big 10, and getting mostly Big 12 games on Saturday. Especially during football season. ah I just buy full court and the football package. but it is great hearing a lot of the radio shows down here now questioning Self.
