    Good think you're not paying him then....the Cubs are. He's still one of the best first baseman in the league. Really? You really think he is? I would rather have at least two other guys in our division. Sure, Pujols and Fielder are better offensive players right now. But I said one of the best in the league, not THE best. In fact, he's still one of the best in the majors. Pujols, Fielder, Howard, and Maurneau.....who else is better? Maybe Texeira. He's certainly one of the best. Hafner, Adrian Gonzalez, Carlos Pena Hafner hasnt played 1st base since little league, Carlos Pena is not better than lee, at least not overall Pujols, Fielder, Morneau, Gonazales, then probably Lee. You think Lee is better than Ryan Howard? oh for crying out loud, you know i forgot howard. Well I assumed you did, but I thought maybe you were really holding his d against him.

Hafner, Adrian Gonzalez, Carlos Pena You'd trade him for them? I sure wouldn't. Is it Gonz .342 OBP that you like? (vs. Lee's who's above .400) Or perhaps Hafner's .436 slugging? He's more of a DH anyway. Pena's having a career year. For the money Adrian and Pena are making vs. Lee I would think about it. If, and its a big one I could use that money to get an outfielder or two who produce at a big league level.

If this year is a blip on the radar and his power comes back it isn't as big of a deal. But, if he has become a guy who hits .300 with 15-18 homers we are paying him too much money.

    Lee takes strikes and swings at garbage. I would rather not have to pay him the next few years than Z.

    These are the same people who had no problem giving Wood a few a big contract in '03 even though he had the same problems. Wood's problem was run support and walks, nothing from 02 and 03 would suggest that his career would drop like it has. Isn't Z's big problem walks??

    I do hope you realize that Cain is 5-13 and Zito has an ERA of close to 5. You don't get 13 losses by being THAT nasty. This is a last place team we're talking about here. They should be sweeping these bums, especially with Z on the mound. Cain has Rich Hillesque run support.

    :roll: Sorry maybe you like giving $18.3 million a year to a pitcher with control issues and a 3.88 ERA who saves his worst performances for the stretch of a pennant race, but I pass. I like being in said pennant races. Losing Z and replacing him with Gallagher is a great way to never be in one again.
