Bob being Bob. I don't have any problem with it. Soriano has no idea how to hustle and should be called out for it. The problem I have with it is he was the only guy to come through in the inning. Ramirez looked like a rookie in his first big league at bat and Soto couldn't make contact either. While Soriano might not have hustled, he did drive in a run which is more than we can say for anyone else in the line-up tonight. What would they have said if he would have been thrown out trying to get to second? This, they would have yelled at him for being stupid and having to know the score and situation. -
What did he say? I'm stuck watching the Rockies feed. Bob has always hated, Soriano, imo. Len said that Soriano might have been able to end up at second if he ran a little harder on that looping line drive and bob said in a snarky voice "Are you surprised?" and he might have made an out, which would be foolish down 3. Or worse, he could have got hurt.

I don't believe that. I've seen Cub teams tank, and when that happens they just lose. Almost regardless of competition. I know the division isn't that strong, but I still think the Cubs have done a good job not letting themselves just sink under the weight of the challenges they've faced this season. These next 7 will be tough.

It's usually a pretty good indicator of it though. Barring a ton of injuries. Here's the top 3 payrolls from last year and where they finished in their division. Yankees - 3rd place Tigers - LAST PLACE Mets - 2nd place And the Yankees and Tigers had a ton of injuries. And the Cubs haven't this year? They have. And I think Lou's done a really good job keeping them afloat, but maybe that's more how bad the rest of the division was.

And again, the season is not play only or mostly against the thrifty teams in the NL Central or thrifty teams in general. Just beacause a team spends 110 million doesn't make them a lock to beat up on teams spending in, say, the 70-90 million range. Ok agree to disagree. But, still I don't want to keep hendry around because I'm fearful the next guy could be worse. The next guy could be Theo Epstein.

White Sox, Mets, Phillies, Dodgers, and Astros are all pretty close this year. Trade deadline moves kind mucked salaries up, so it's hard to tell based on info that's out there. how the heck are the Astros spending that much? CLee, Tejada, Roy, Lance.

Most of the GMS could win if they got 110 million and thier opponents got 60 million. That's a false point since it makes like the 110 million team is only playing 60 million teams or worse. How many teams do we play every year that spend as much as us? 2 maybe 3? So a team should be all but a lock to beat any team that spends less? What if they spend a million less? 3? 5? 10? It's not as cut and dry as you're trying to make it. Our payroll the past few years has dwarfed our competition, the NL Central. Last year he had a great team/ The year before we lucked into a division title.

I like how you say that like it's crazy. I like how you've never ever been wrong once. Ever. Oh come on. Hendry is NOT a "bottom-5 GM" No one is talking about a 'few good trades' absolving him from anything. He has built a team that won back to back division championships and going into this season - on paper - the cubs were still one of the best teams in baseball. Yes, he makes mistakes (Say, Aaron Miles) but bottom 5? Please. He also was in a division the last two years where he spent a lot more money than anyone else.

I like how you say that like it's crazy. It is. A few good trades does not absolve him from the other absolutely brutal moves he's made. He's hit and miss, imo. I'm willing to give him a pass for the time being for the recent Pac Rim efforts and the 2008 draft. I do wish he would go back to running the minor league system only.

Money can mask a lot of flaws. But honestly if you were going to build a team from scratch it would take a few years to get the team you want in order to play your way. How the hell do you ever do that if you change your way every year? I could live with a few rebuilding years if we actually got someone in here who knew what the hell he was doing. I just want a real plan. Not this get me guys who catch the ball. Hey let's trade away good big leaguers who bat right handed so we can add crappy ones who hit with their left hand. It's foolish.

It seemed to me like the whole organization decided that last year wasn't worth it because of 3 games against L.A. Had to change everything up. I wonder what Hendry's asinine philosophy will be this offseason. Let's see, so far we've had... --Guys who can catch the ball --The extreme need for a leadoff hitter no matter the cost -- The need to get more left-handed None of these so-called "team philosophies" have ever lasted more than a season, and are completely forgotten about by the time the next one enters his hollow head. Which is why he needs to go. He doesn't have any real philosophies of his own. How does a guy running a big league team not have a set theory on how to build a team? And yet there are people who honestly think he's not a bottom-5 GM. Money can mask a lot of flaws. Are you serious? Were you in a coma for the other couple of weeks? It sure didn't even out his slump like it normally does. Wait, what? He slumped for almost two months. You really expected him to go on a two month hot streak? I figured he would at least return to his norm. I don't think he is a sub .800 ops player.
