Good first post. Definitely agree with the Mussina - Morris comparison.

Yep. Fast as Archie was and as good as he was at eluding tackles, he still got sacked an AVERAGE of 34 times a year during his career with New Orleans. The Saints line back then was so, soooooo bad.

Why do you think that? His stats look pretty damn good to me. Throw into it that he played for the Red Sox and was on two of their WS teams.... for a CO with bad defense hes going to need more than 500 HRs. I think he should get in, I just dont think he does. Another name I'll throw out there is Jim Edmonds. He probably will not get in, but he's probably the second best CF of his generation ahead of Lofton and Williams -- unless I am completely forgetting someone Manny is at 491 HR right now. I think he'll get 500 and beyond. Really hadn't thought much about Edmonds. His WARP3 (106) is only 2 points lower than Manny's.

It's funny how Eli and Peyton are so slow yet their dad was so fast and was much more of a running QB than a pocket passer like his sons. If no one has really seen footage of Archie, check this out (all the footage of him is in the first 45 seconds or so). You can really see how quick he was for his time....especially interesting given how slow his sons are:

I didn't say he wouldn't. He was on my initial list. The list that I didn't have him on was the list of dominant first baggers of the 90's.

I think he's certainly got a good shot. 250 wins is a hell of a lot. Speaking of current pitchers who could be HOF'ers right now, I forgot to mention John Smoltz. He'd probably be at about 250 if he hadn't closed for 3 years.

That's pretty much what I was trying to say. If I was to rank the power 1st basemen (regardless of the steroids stuff) from the 1990's-early 00's...I'd go: Jeff Bagwell Mark McGwire Raffy Palmeiro Jim Thome Todd Helton Fred McGriff Jason Giambi Andres Galaraga I probably missed a few.

Thomas is a lock. I'm not so sure if I'd call Thome a lock, but he certainly should make it. I agree that Thomas is a lock. Thome is hard to say. He has one of THE stats i.e. 500 HR, but I think with the offensive upswing in the game that has occurred in the past 20 years, 500 HR isn't going to be a lock anymore. Thome only finished in the top 5 in MVP voting once (4th place in 2003, and only in the top 10 three other times....so he doesn't have the PEAK that a lot of HOF voters like to see. It's hard to say with him. Although his WARP3 certainly indicates that he should probably be a HOFer: 110.

It should be considered a factor, just like everything else voters look at. This will all be moot in 5-6 years when he gets to 3000.

I certainly hope not. He's definitely one of the most overrated players of our era. i'd replace andruw jones with torii hunter in this paragraph and agree 100%. I dunno, check out their WARP3's. Hunter: 48, Jones: 101.6. Granted, Jones has played a few more extra seasons, but those seasons aren't going to do squat for making up that kind of difference between them.

Ichiro? No chance. He's only played here for 7 years. No chance? I think Ichiro is a lock if he retires tomorrow. He needs to play three more years to qualify. I had no idea. You have to play ten years? Yep.

In those 7 seasons the guy has 1592 hits (more than anyone has ever had in a 7 year stretch), 782 runs, 272 SB's, 7 straight gold gloves (yes I know). If he were to end his career now, I think he'd get in because they would (hopefully) take into account how dominant he was in Japan before coming over. I think there is going to have to be some sort of balancing test done with foreign players, starting with Ichiro.
