  4. Expos were the latest: BBTN: Vlad Dawson Carter Fans: Dawson Raines Vlad I'm surprised the fans went with Dawson over Vlad, seeing as how Vlad is a more current player.

  19. Baseball HOFers get plaques, not busts. http://s338.photobucket.com/albums/n438/levintblack/th_owned.png
  20. Indeed. If you have a lifetime WARP3 of 132 as a SS, your butt better be in the HOF.
  21. Ya, Mays, Matty, and Bonds are hard to argue with.
  22. Which is why I believe winning a gold glove (even though gold gloves are extremely superficial) would help his cause. I think he should have won it last year. He's got a good chance to win it this year though, although sportswriters seemed to have anointed David Wright as "the chosen one." Through his first 4,589 AB's (93-02), Chipper had 253 HR, 837 RBI, and 1419 hits Through his first 4,403 AB's (98-07), Ramirez had 222 HR, 770 RBI, and 1246 hits So, obviously Chipper is ahead of Ramirez in offensive stats through his first nine seasons or so, but not by a ton, at least as regards the sexy stats. Now, talk about OPS+ or WARP3 and stuff like, and Chipper blows Ramirez away. So I wouldn't dismiss Ramirez as a candidate. I think he's actually a decent candidate at this point if he continues to play for another seven or eight years.
  23. Aramis is about on the exact same pace that Chipper Jones was at his age so far as the sexy stats are concerned. The problem with comparing him with Chipper is that Chipper has always had high exposure being both on TBS near everyday and always being in the playoffs. Ramirez would go along way to help his cause if he were to win a gold glove (HOF voters like hearing "gold glover Aramis Ramirez, although Chipper doesn't have a gold glove either) and help the Cubs achieve something special. If he continues to remain productive until his late 30's like Chipper is doing, then I could definitely see it. Soriano, close but no cigar. Z has a damn good shot barring any injury.
  24. You hit the nail on the head. Looking at that makes me a bit uncomfortable. It doesn't really seem fair. I guess it's just one of those things like a batting record because of consistency. For example, it took Pete Rose 2,619 more AB's to get 4,191 hits than Cobb took, or like Aaron beating Ruth (almost 4,000 more AB's to get 714).
  25. For all that Anson did good for baseball (turning the NL into THE elite baseball league by trolling for and stealing the best players from all the other leagues), he also did a great amount of damage as well. His intolerance toward playing against blacks was one of the principal factors in the segregation of baseball. Most folks don't realize that baseball was one of the few things that was fully integrated during the Jim Crow era. As the principal actor in the National League, his intolerance caused the league to not allow blacks to play on any of its teams. Perhaps if he hadn't been that way, the NL (and by proxy the AL) would have been integrated from its beginning.
