  4. I don't know about "all the time" (wouldn't surprise me if he did, I just haven't seen it or read about it personally), but I did just remember the shot of him hitting his 60th HR in 1927 in which he seems to be doing the "walking jog" admiration. http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh153/OleMissCub17/ruthswing3.gif
  5. Ya, he did. http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh153/OleMissCub17/regjack.gif
  6. You know baseball history pretty well OMC....who was the first player (One that made it a habit) to do this? I've seen so much old footage of ballplayers and the earliest that I've ever seen someone do that is with Eddie Murray: http://img02.picoodle.com/img/img02/4/2/6/f_eddiemurraym_545e742.gif
  7. Admiring balls you hit. When you hit the ball, just start running, please.
  8. It would probably be hard to get players together in Chicago during the off-season... Unless KW thinks doing it in Mesa during Spring Training makes sense, I don't see another way. I understand why they do it when they do it (for the reasons you explained), I'm just surprised that the front office is OK with it. Front office types are paranoid about their players doing ANYTHING but playing baseball.
  9. I'm a bit surprised they do this event during the season.
  10. Right on about Foxx and Simmons being left off the A's list. That's some serious Bravo Sierra. Simmons had 9 straight 100+ RBI seasons to start his career, including three of those years being over 150+.
  11. Do I eat a slice of pizza or a cupcake full of arsenic? SLEEP IN!!!!
  12. The sound of female athletic encouragements from the sidelines is one of the most annoying sounds in the world. Good god. Like nails on a chalkboard.
  13. Here's what Bela had to say about them: http://www.nbcolympics.com/gymnastics/news/newsid=190870.html#bela+karolyi+incensed+about+underage+rules
  14. 16 years old my achin' ass http://deadspin.com/assets/images/deadspin/2008/08/chinese_gymnasts.jpg
  15. From the 2008 MLB Rule Book: http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh153/OleMissCub17/strikezone.jpg
  16. neither are check swings or checking with the 1st/3rd base ump on them. Correct. Going back over 100 years, one of the definitions of a strike is when a batter "strikes at" the ball but doesn't make contact. Not sure where the current understanding of the rule comes from or how long they've been using it.
  17. :good: Never thought I'd say this, but GREAT post.
  18. Well, if the Chinese girls win, I won't feel so bad because I imagine if they had lost they probably would have been executed or something for failing the Empire....well not really....maybe.

  20. For those who have never seen it, check out Olga Korbut's uneven bars routine from the 1972 Olympics, which is considered to be the greatest performance in Olympic gymnastics history. It's unreal. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yOOmFgBAdIA
  21. That's something that has been handed down from the old times. I found this in the 1889 Rulebook some time ago and was going to post it in the Baseball History thread, but it probably serves good use right now. http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/4577/baserunnerey4.jpg
  22. Marlon Byrd 5-5 now.
