Their careers are going to be much more ruined if he goes somewhere else and is even just "Matt Stafford good" than if they draft him and he stinks. They are basically banking their reputations on the fact that he is going to be a bust somewhere else. South Texas will never forgive those guys if he turns out to be a good QB. As far as the fans go, Clowney is going to have be the second coming of Deacon Jones to offset Johnny being good somewhere else. Fair point on the jersey sales.

Cowboys trying to figure out a way, any way, to get Manziel. Boy would that be a spectacle. About the Texans, and I'm sure this has already been discussed in this thread and I've just missed it, but what's the downside to drafting JFF? Jersey sales, season ticket sales, and the publicity alone will more than pay for the pick, even if he is a bust. So what's the downside to drafting him? That he is a mediocre QB just like 15 other starting QB's in the league? Whereas the upside is that he could be a Russell Wilson-esque QB AND you'd get all the jersey sales, etc. If they pick Clowney and he turns out to be average or a total head case and Manziel goes somewhere and is All-Pro, then the people that run that organization will literally never hear the end of it until their dying days.

I think it matters to get them out of their homeland. It would matter even more if they had to play bowl games outside the confederacy once in a while. Is that the SEC's fault? How many bowls out there are in the north?

Ole Miss is playing Boise State in Atlanta to start the CFB season in August. I guess back when they scheduled it several years ago, that was going to be a difficult game. Not so much anymore.

Well, Chris Ellis isn't half bad. Currently outdueling Nola. I've seen Ellis listed as a late first or early second round guy on some mocks.

My Rebels are facing Aaron Nola from LSU tonight on ESPN. Not looking forward to this.... So far he is 7-1, 0.70 ERA, 64 IP, 84 K, 13 BB, 9 games started with 6 shutouts.
