  1. J.D. Martinez and his controversial Hitler and gun Instagram surfaces https://www.instagram.com/p/UUDOLtkWOn
  2. murphy still needs to speak more on this. his half-assed "oh, dear" comment left a bad taste in my mouth. the cubs organization as a whole needs to explain to their LGBTQ fanbase as to why having him on the team is ok. for all of the talk in the cubs way regarding character, their trading for a domestic abuser (chapman), the dark clouds hanging over addision russell (and at one point starlin castro) and now trading for a homophobe who said those "lifestyle" comments WHILE IN UNIFORM rings real horsefeathering hollow. freedom of speech doesn't make you immune from criticism.
  3. He's the John Cazale of dongs. After reading that tweet last night, I thought the EXACT same thing!
  4. Derek Holland apologizes for using mock Asian accent in TV appearance re-enactment of said performance:
  5. No I was just saying the n-word like, in general. I wasn't talking about you, the only African American here, specifically. did you post the right quote? I'm confused.... And I believe there’s more than one African American posting on this board.
  6. He looks like the mugshot of Goldberg from the mighty ducks.
  7. If Tommy has to die so Bote can stay, so be it.
  8. he's a journeyman relief pitcher, not alex rodriguez. the cubs may have support staff on their end to help new players and their families get acclimated to the city but i doubt they assist with finding a babysitter. i don't have kids myself but i don't think i'd be cool just handing my kid over to a random person for a day or two a week on a "recommendation" from a friend or company. i'm sure there's vetting that goes on with the family of the child, which takes time. I thought there was a piece on how the Cubs are recruiting free agents they show them schools, daycare, babysitters, etc when they meet with them. Plus other player wives may have solid recommendations. I did think about that after I posted my response but my comment still stands. The dude is a 2-month relief pitcher and not Jon Lester or Jason Heyward.
  9. Im assuming they let her know more than 24 hours in advance when that particular day will be? And im also assuming major league baseball players have support staff and secretary's that would be able to assist in finding them a reliable baby sitter? he's a journeyman relief pitcher, not alex rodriguez. the cubs may have support staff on their end to help new players and their families get acclimated to the city but i doubt they assist with finding a babysitter. i don't have kids myself but i don't think i'd be cool just handing my kid over to a random person for a day or two a week on a "recommendation" from a friend or company. i'm sure there's vetting that goes on with the family of the child, which takes time.
  10. he'll be top 3 but they'll give it to arenado.
  11. Edwin Jackson in 2014. 6-15, 6.33 ERA, -2.3 bWAR in 140.2 IP. Jesus H Christ I forgot how absolutely terrible Jackson was that year. Fun fact, I basically called Mike Minor's HR off Jackson from the bleachers that year ("if Minor's ever going to hit a HR, it'll be off Edwin" 2 pitches before he went deep). we got a winner!
  12. that losing streak was with the mets. both baseball reference and fangraphs have him with a positive war in 1994 (1.1) and positive/negative war in 1995 (0.2 and -0.2, respectively). i remember watching him pitch for the cubs. he wasn't anything special but he wasn't a black hole of suckage like estes and chatwood.
  13. I went back and looked at his numbers and he was MUCH worse than i remembered. How dare you Man, how is that even possible? If anything, I remember him as being even worse than he was. It made me so mad that Dusty kept him in the rotation all year. estes gave up 4 or more runs in 14 of his 29 starts as a cub. he walked 83 in those 29 starts. to compare, chatwood has given up 4 or more runs in 7 of his 19 starts and walked 85 in those 19 starts. estes had a bWAR of -1.3 in 2003 while chatwood has a current bWAR of 0.3. are estes and chatwood the worst cub starters of the past 20-25 years?
  14. his face is a weird mix of actors bill hader, josh hamilton, jon hamm and braves legend dale murphy. feel like i'm looking at one of those morphing face gifs.
  15. Russell and his throws to first always look like they’re coming in at 5 mph.
  16. i had forgotten just how bad he was last year, wow I had forgotten Shawn Kelly was a baseball player and not some non descript Irish pub owner.
