  1. and I havent seen him take as many retaliation penalties this either. So he is improving. Unlike the Aaron Miles analogy, there are many things that stats do not measure in hockey that are important to winning. A good example is someone like John Madden. His value is really going to be missed next year by the Hawks, but I am not sure I will be able to statistically tell you why except for maybe face-offs.
  2. next question then, would KT have gotten in trouble for ripping how Don Cherry dressed when he was on ESPN?
  3. first of all I am just playing. I think most of the regular hockey followers know I dont care for Kanes overall game. Kane is a very good offensive player though. I have been very consistent about that for several years. He may at some point in his career prove me wrong, but I think him making the same money as Toews is going to be a huge mistake someday.
  4. Patrick Kane's top highlight from last years WCF
  5. But as a MSU fan I would appreciate if the largest newspaper in the state did hold MSU a little more accountable. I like Dantonio, but his team reminded me of a Smith coached team on and off the field last year. Dont get me wrong, UM got caught, pay the bill. But is Indiana's largest paper doing a major investigation on ND practice schedules?
  6. I agree to a certain extent. If however Les Miles was coaching UM doing what Rich Rod did, my guess is the Free Press does not break this story.
  7. Kane being invisible against better opponents....hhmmm. He was actually visible twice to me. Getting knocked off the puck and instead of going into the corner to win it back, he lifted his arms up and whined at the ref giving the Swiss and easy out of the zone
  8. [expletive] the Detroit Free Press and it's ridiculousness. MSU has players starting major fights and putting innocent people in the hospital, but no big deal. Michigan practices for 20 minutes too long on a Sunday and have a few guys helping that shouldn't be and now it's a huge scandal and Rich Rod should be fired. Rodriguez had the same issues at WVU. If Rodriguez were winning 9 and 10 games a year, his seat wouldn't be so hot. But .500 record + NCAA violations will put your head on the block right quick. What does MSU have to do with this though? Hyperbole and deflection doesn't change the facts. The Free Press writes articles about MSU as well and never questioned Dantonio's willingness to give guys a second chance after they got into that big brawl a year ago that left a guy in the hospital with a cracked skull. It's a very pro-MSU paper. I get your point though. I think Rich Rod not being in the Bo Schembachler coaching tree may be part of it also.

  10. OK, then dont be upset when they are criticized for looking awful.
  11. What the hell do bermuda shorts have to do with anything? She's been wearing that crap for a long time and obviously would not have been allowed on air if it violated dress codes. Women in the professional world where that style of clothing all the time. If you believe that to true, this is just a stand still. I still believe that she is not dressing professionally. I believe that ESPN has a double standard in dress code. If that is the case they should not be upset when someone like KT comments about it.
  12. There was some article a while back where she said she picks out her clothes... can't remember where it was. Someone had interviewed her about her style. Still, at any other employer, that's sexual harassment -- whether his comments were accurate (I think they were, despite Storm being a fox) or otherwise. If one of the male anchors came out wearing bermuda shorts while another was wearing business attire and KT criticized him, what would that be? A completely different situation. She wasn't dressed any differently than thousands of women in the business world dress everyday. And it's a freaking sports highlight show, not meet the press. I dont think what she was wearing is standard business dress for women. ok it is a sports highlight show, why are the men not wearing bermuda shorts then? My guess is ESPN has a dress code. Several of the not so attractive ESPN anchor ladies dress very professional. The attractive female anchor is dressing completely different then everyone else. sorry I am missing your argument somewhere

  14. that and he took over for a coach who had a rep of not holding his players accountable to conditioning. Rich Rod just swung the pendulum to far the other way and some of the existing players didn't like it. I think this time his bull in the china shop approach may have worked against him.
  15. this may not be the place to ask this, but I have been kind of wondering about this. Has one bad season completely made Samardzija into a huge waste? He still is rather young, is it possible for him to still develop into a quality major league pitcher? I understand that the win now philosophy the Cubs are playing under puts a lot of pressure on your 5th starter to be competent. It just seems like the general tone of this board is that Samardzija is a complete waste of time at this point in his career and the Cubs would be better off trading him for something else.
  16. According to SportsbyBrooks, ESPN doesn't have the authority to suspend him from his radio show (Dan Snyder owns the station it airs on, and it's merely affiliated with ESPN). It's also been announced that Kornheiser has been banned from criticizing any ESPN employee for any reason on any outlet in the future. TK's contract is up soon and it's rumored that this massive overreaction is to gain leverage in talks on a new deal. ESPN would be stupid to low ball Tony. About the only reasonably intelligent sports show they have on that network is Him and Wilbon. I think PTI's ratings would take a huge long term hit without TK
  17. I wouldnt discount the Finns. i would to be honest. i've watched parts of two of their games and they certainly aren't impressive so far in this tournament. i'm not a big fan of kipper and their backend is not outstanding. their top level scoring (selanne, skoivu) is old.. jokinen has gone backwards in a big way. mikko koivu and niklas hagman aren't going to carry an offense. even the US has kane and parise at forward. i wouldn't put one finland forward on their level. The only game I got to watch a lot of the Finns was against Sweden. They were very out-matched. I agree with a lot of your assessment. But Finland is also not chopped liver. In this one and done format, they can easily beat the US in a game. I am sure the US would win a best of 7, but of course Canada would beat the US in a best of 7 also. It may all be moot, since they have to beat the czechs first.
  18. To me it seems awfully sexist that the male anchors are wearing business attire, while Hannah Storm is wearing go go boots. Not sure what the ESPN policy is, but it doesnt seem consistent. As a person who has adult daughters I would be a little miffed if this was the standard at their place of employment.
  19. I wouldnt discount the Finns.
  20. pronger had 3 minutes of ice time in the third; keith and doughty had the most ice time in the game for canada. i thought crosby was actually pretty good. yes Crosby played well. Doughty has probably been their best dman overall. It was obvious the US was just dumping pucks in behind Pronger and Neidermayer and taking advantage of how slow they are. Do you think Yzerman should have added Ryan Smythe to put some pressure on opposing goalies in front of the net?
  21. the Russian/Canadian quarterfinal game is going to be incredible. 2 very talented desperate teams. I think Babcock needs to look at the film and make some tough calls. Several top players(egos) are not playing well at all and are getting top minutes(Iginla, Pronger, Neidermayer) I thought Keith played great last night, but it seemed like he was not in the game much. I cant find a box score that has minutes played, but my guess is Seabrook played less then 5. Which seems bizarre since Pronger and Neidermayer were playing so poorly. Toews and Nash have been Canada's best forwards and finally seemed to be getting quality minutes in the 3rd period last night. On the contrary it seems that Wilson is rewarding players who are giving good effort with more time. Which is leading to better effort from everyone. USA may have been out skilled last night but they were not out worked. The won the face-off battle, they won the battles in front of the net, and they won the battles for the puck in the corners. These are the things that win championships/medals in hockey.
  22. kane being on the team makes me not want to cheer for them. kane is my least favorite player in the nhl
  23. It really blows for those of us who do not have CNBC. The irony is I chose this cable provider because they had Versus, so I could watch more hockey. It's on MSNBC. He's complaining because it's not on CNBC cool!! I was concerned because there has been a lot of hockey on CNBC so far.
