  2. Very Carefully. Tuffy Rhodes hit 55 home runs in Japan and OPS: Kaz in Japan - .846 Kaz in MLB - .712 Iwamura in Japan - .877 Iwamura in MLB - .770 Iguchi in Japan - .813 Iguchi in MLB - .768 Ichiro in Japan - .942 Ichiro in MLB - .816 Hideki Matsui in Japan - .995 Hideki Matsui in MLB - .856 Dice-K in Japan - 2.81 ERA Dice-K in MLB - 4.40 ERA
  3. Rosenthal being interviewed on Comcast. Fukudome is a Great deal for the Cubs. Roberts trade possible but may be hindered by Angelos love of Roberts. Don't think the Cubs will trade Pie. White Sox really wanted Fuk
  4. Arm Jacque Jones couldn't have thrown that guy out from 10 feet behind first.
  5. So who will we be facing in the World Series, Red Sox or Tigers?
  6. says the guy excited about the cordero contract. good job, hendry. no way you just said that. he still sucks overall, but this looks good. Like I told you, it's all about respect with the Japanese. Show them the proper respect (i.e, money) and they'll honor your request. Once I heard the Cubs had the highest offer, I knew they had him. I was never worried.
  7. According to the dudes on the Comcast Sports show a few minutes ago, Dan Plesac said earlier today that he felt Fukudome and Roberts were an "either or proposition" and that the Cubs wouldn't go after both of them. Which led to a discussion of which one would you prefer and a lot of discussion on how much Fuk's Japanese stats should be discounted.
  8. Your guess is as good as mine. If the Cubs land Fukudome, I think they will be more willing to trade Pie especially if Colvin is progressing. Hendry keeps saying Pie is untouchable, but I got to believe if Hendry becomes desperate for Brian Roberts, he'll put Pie in that deal. With Pie, Theriot and the pitcher's spot, the lineup has 3 automatic outs (save for Z). That's why the Riot hits 2nd to stop the auto 3! If Pie goes and Hendry deals for Roberts doesn't that leave a hole in Right? DeRosa.

  10. Unless I am mistaken, all international merchandise revenue goes directly into revenue sharing, as well as online sales except for zip codes in a 200 mile radius. The only way the Cubs can profit directly off of this deal is by selling ads to Japanese, or a cable deal. One way is to have the green screen behind home plate display Japanese ads whenever Fukudome is batting, because obviously they'll get more play in Japan than say, Ryan Theriot's. Yeah, and that's something they were planning on doing - selling ads in japanese. i wish I could remember whose article I read this in... http://www.signonsandiego.com/sports/padres/20071211-9999-1s11padres.html
  11. Sorry, but Cedeno has done exactly jack when he's had his opportunities. If you guys are ripping on Theriot for his numbers how can you not rip Cedeno's numbers? He was also pretty bad defensively in the majors. OK, so he does good in the winter leagues and the minors, then why is he so damn bad when he is with the Cubs? Until he proves he can hit in the majors,it's Theriot's job to lose unless we trade for an actual SS. I've said this before and I will say it again. Lou has decided that Theriot is the starting SS and his is the only opinion that counts. I would love to see the Cubs have open competition at SS and let the better player start. I think the hangup with Cedeno is that he makes too many mistakes (physical and mental) for Lou. I think Cedeno needs to dedicate himself to reaching his full potential. His reputation as a playboy might have an effect on his onfield play. The problem is that once a player gets neglected by Lou (Cedeno, Murton, Marshall, etc.), I think there's little hope of the situation changing. Marmol's reputation as a "playboy" hasn't seemed to hurt his stance with Lou too much.
  12. MLK day. because respect is so important to the japenese, he's going to announce it on MLK day (as MLK was a very respectful person). Yeah, he'll probably sign with the Padres because they respected him by offering good weather, better beaches and a location two hours closer to Japan instead of matching the Cubs offer.
  13. Let him. What are the new owners going to do, buy the team and then create ill will with the fans by using the back loaded contracts as an excuse not to continue to increase the payroll? No, they are going to suck it up and let the payroll increase to Red Sox levels where it should be.
  14. Did the Cubs go up from yesterday to 5 years a $10 million or is it a 4 year $12.5 offer? I really hope this isn't Furcal all over again. http://cbs.sportsline.com/mlb/story/10522930/2

  16. Pretty much anything an agent says is just a ploy to up the ante. My guess is that they want San Diego to get closer to Chicago's offering price and if it did come down to geography, San Diego wins. Agree, this isn't Brian Giles coming home to San Diego and offering a hometown discount. If the Cubs have the best offer (like Soriano) they get him. If they don't have the best offer (like Furcal), they won't get him.
  17. he's a baseball player, not a samurai. Ever been to Japan? Yes. You're focusing on one stereotype when there's a bevvy of others that could just as easily not be applicable. thats not a stereotype. "the voice" is talking about a quality adhered to by a culture. Exactly.
  18. he's a baseball player, not a samurai. Ever been to Japan? Yes. You're focusing on one stereotype when there's a bevvy of others that could just as easily not be applicable. No, I'm focusing on the facts that are applicable. His agent has stated Fukudome is going to take the best financial offer and that geography will only come into play as a tie-breaker. If Hendry shows the man the proper respect (read Money), he'll be a Cub. If he doesn't, he won't. It's as simple as that. http://www.signonsandiego.com/sports/padres/20071210-9999-1s10padres.html

  20. The Japanese culture is all about respect. Whoever shows Fukudome the most respect (i.e, money) will get him. He's not going to choose San Diego because they have better weather than Chicago.
